Also, as someone who has studied stage makeup in different eras now, the 90s through the present, doing what looks best on your face shape and with your skin tone will always be better looking than following trends that don't look good on your skin tone or with your hair color. I figured out what looks best on my face and I will keep doing that forever LOL

This is how a lot of my pictures have remained timeless through the years. You can sometimes only tell the era due to the photo quality.

I totally agree 👍 I became a teenager in the mid 90s. The whole skinny eyebrow thing was the trend my sister and mum told me to go with what suits your face and not a trend. They also warned me about my eyebrows not growing back. They were totally right and I still see many people I went to school with with the same brows because they didn’t grow back because they over plucked them 😮

I have a theory that the minimal lip trend had more to do with the 2020 panini rather than a natural trend. It took a long time for all of us to want something more than a gloss or nothing at all because of the masks. Then when masks were no longer a thing, we didn't really get companies bringing out new lip products or advertising lip trends until mid year this year.
@manimanibooboo
@manimanibooboo 8 месяцев назад
That makes much sense. So much, because they didn't know when the panini shop would close and things go into production a long time ahead.

I’m 51 and have seen lots of trends come and go. I believe things like a slicked back hairdo, a bob, red lipstick, and so on are timeless. I think it’s the trendy things we will look back on and cringe. The enormous eyelashes, the spiky eyebrows, and the overly ‘dewy’ skin just to name a few.

I hear RU-vidrs say bold lashes are out but that must be a social media analysis because in these streets I see tons of ladies and girls wearing the super huge, moth like, eyelashes with no other makeup (which is a very strange look), so in the actual world, not sure how out of date the lashes are….i’m not a fan, but it’s pretty prevalent, even my husband noticed it and he couldn’t care less about makeup😂

I couldn't agree more. I see alot of youtubers and influencers say what's in or out... and I think the lead is from social media and where brands are taking new launches. However.... many people who started pink blush in the 80s are still doing it.... or the big bold brows of the 2012s. Some people stick to what they know or things from their youth... and then that passes on to their younger generations. I still see LOADS of people with bushy/block brows... big lashes... fake tans...5inch nails...and lip filler. ❤

@@AltogetherAlanna O the 5 inch nails yes! See those all the time! 80s teen/young adult here, we actually didn't wear our blush that high--you'd see it in videos, but mostly we'd do the whole suck your mouth in and sculpt under the cheekbone. And it was a bold streak bc most of us just used the brush in the compact-we didn't have access to brushes like today. I just had to pipe in. As for me, I have been happy to have blush back. I have strong contrast between my hair and skin, so I need some blush to not look washed out. I like plum/burgundy myself . Anyway, I am glad people at the very least have learned to love blush vs no blush, it will be interesting to see ehow it plays out. I like dewy, but i agree, it is played out. I am here for satin/lightly powdered and young folks, go full matte, it is tres chic especailly with a bold lip, little eye makeup. ..also very 90s One nugget of advice I like to pass on--save your jeans. Those cycle so much & yeah, save your jeans, purge your closet occasionally, except for your jeans. YVW.
@cfw91491
@cfw91491 8 месяцев назад
I'm an 80s teen/young adult here too and also did the suck-in-the-cheek-to-apply-in-the-hollow-of-the-cheek look with the tiny brush that came with the blush. I went for either a rose or plum shade with a bold streak that looked surprisingly good on an 18 year old, not so good at 58. We bought either Maybelline or Cover Girl because we couldn't afford Revlon or L'Oreal and high end makeup could only be found at the fancy department stores. The HS trend with the streaked blush was purple/plum eyeshadow with black eyeliner in the waterline which was achieved by melting the Maybelline red pencil eyeliner (you had to be careful not to over melt it with the lighter) and black Great Lash mascara. I usually used just a gloss aka Vaseline or maybe a light pink shade for the lips. Eye makeup was always my favorite, as it is today, and people used to call me "Endora" for my bold eye looks at the time. I see all these videos out there with the bold, beautiful eye looks that would have looked amazing back then but have to modify quite a bit today and saying to myself that I would have loved to have today's eye looks back in 1984. I also agree on saving the jeans. I still have a few pairs from the 90s and early 2000s that I may revisit soon but those acid wash and the "baggy" jeans from the 80s that could only fit my size 3 teenage body I threw away.

For my combo-dry skin, I will never give up dewy or luminous skin. It's so comfortable and goes with any eye or lip makeup. But I do think powdering certain areas of the skin can be helpful too like the T zone or for pores. But I think It's much easier to mattify later than start with a matte primer or foundation that will only feel heavy and uncomfortable on skin. At least for non oily skin types.

I wonder if, as we move to more neutral blush colors and shadow colors along with natural and less dewy foundations, contouring will come back stronger. I had to laugh when you were talking about the classic Steve Madden black sandals from the 90s…. I’m 36 and I have a 13 year old daughter who is fashion obsessed and I have been LOVING seeing her get into styles that I wore at her age 😂😂 she literally has some hollister jeans that I wore in high school and I find myself telling her all the time that I should have kept all my clothes! It’s so true! Everything comes back and it’s so fun!

I’ve personally noticed that shimmery blush seems to be on its way out, while highlighters appear to be on the rise. As far as the bob goes, I’ve found that they are FAR more maintenance than long hair; I can always come up with something pretty with my quite long hair, even if it’s dirty-ish; but never could with it cut in a bob. Also - I’m seeing the rise of “twinkly” eyeshadow and eyeliner-not a solid shimmer or “frost” - which I’m sure happy about. I personally need a little something-something of interest in my eyeshadow, w/o too much attention being drawn. I’m on the west coast, so maybe that’s got something to do with what I’m noticing and have experienced.

As I have grown up and got a personality of my own and not relying on others for validation, trends are fickle for me. Seeing things that were popular less than a year ago never mentioned, people spending ££££ on products they will bin in a few months, feeling bad they don’t fit tends or their appearance doesn’t look right maybe even damaging themselves for a trend. Wears clothes, makeup, colours etc that suit your unique beautiful sleeves.

As a dry skinned person, I really hope that dewy and/or balmy liquid and stick blushes don't go away. I cannot where cream to powder blushes, or pressed powder blushes. They dry out my skin so bad, hang onto every flake, and just look awful. I like that there is such a variety of products out right now, from dewy to matte to natural finishes, and it would be nice if it stays that way.

Dewy skin is definitely influenced by Korean/Kpop stars and i honestly don't believe its going anywhere. Younger people look great with that level of dew but it looks greasy AF and makes wrinkles 10x more obvious for anyone over the age of 35+. Unless you have an ingenue/ethereal face some makeup looks DO NOT look good on you.

I LOVE the bold pink blush (given it's blended well). I never heard of matching it with a light pink undereye....that's where we veer into grandma's-powdered-face territory IMO. I really love the berry shade from that Essence baked blush line for this, it's really flattering on my skin tone. I'll be keeping it.

I think the big over the top pink blush is still great on a lot of people, but certainly not everyone. Same goes for copper, peach, or plum blushes. I think a healthy glow comes from a quality choice of colors according to your skin tone. Bright and bold is a fun look, but it can look out of place and silly if the tones aren’t right.

@irinaotubela2356 the 80s blush was a low angled stripe under the cheekbone. Everyone was told to make a fish face, suck in you cheeks and do a stripe under the bone! Exception was long narrow faces, advised to do a horizontal stripe to "balance" or widen the face.

I recently toned my hair a bit warmer, «chocolaty» according to my hairdresser, and to my surprise, now I can wear so many more of the cool tones in the I Need a Nude palette from ND. I was stunned and positively surprised! I had been avoiding dying my hair for years thinking I needed my hair to be the natural cool tone that it is (and lots of grays throughout, let’s be honest), and what I found is that going a mere atom of a warmer shade changed everything: I can wear cool tones without looking washed out, my blue eyes pop, my skin looks great. All for the fear of the copper, which does not suit me. There are more ways to go warmer and make your colours pop!😁

I’ve been kinda amazed by how quickly greys and taupes have come back the past few months. Last winter I was desperately looking for some CF grey/silver single eyeshadows, was amazed by how long it took me. I finally found lome loose mineral shadows from the brand Lily Lolo (they’re very good!). But it legit took me weeks to find those. I would personally appreciate if we actually did consistently get more cooler toned products available (in addition to keeping warm tones for those who suit warmer tones better).

Girl my everyday makeup is a red lip! I always do my winged "siren" type eye look (I have hooded lids so it always looks good on my eye shape). Then my red lip (brighter in warmer weather, deeper in colder weather). It took some trial and error to find the tone of red that works for me. I definitely lean towards that cool blue red since I'm a fair cool undertoned girlie.

As for everything else you’ve said, I’d agree with. There is a red to suit everyone and a cool tone to suit everyone. You just have to play around with makeup to find it.
