I understand why they call it Ubers UU, since it sets a precedence for future formats, like Ubers RU, Ubers NU, etc. But the format will always be called UUbers in my heart
Hard agree! I immediately thought that UUbers was one of the coolest names for anything ever when the tier was first announced, so I'm not willing to give up on it.
Mega Rayquaza: so powerful overall they create a tier above Ubers where you can literally do anything to try and beat it Baxcalibur and Co.: so unused in Ubers they created a day care where they can be free to play without the threat of the big boys
personally id love if game freak would finally accept that they need a main line stadium game meant just for pvp so that balance can be better attained and then let the main line games do whatever they want. that way we can have PVE/rpg stats and then balanced stats in stadium. it would also open the option for game freak to step away from battle focused perks and give pokemon you dont really battle with perks that help an RPG game.
@@armorelarmadura7807 The thing with Ubers UU is that it's not on the traditional ladder of usage stats. It would mean Pokemon could be ranked in multiple official tiers, which I feel like would be confusing. Like, if you go a Pokemon's page it usually just says "OU" or whatever. If Ubers UU was made fully official, some pokemon would be officially placed in both OU and Ubers UU. It's a cool ass format and I'm glad it's on Showdown, but I really doubt it'll ever be made fully official. (If any official tier was gonna be made official, ZU makes the most sense as it does fit cleanly in this usage ranking system)
The people who said that this new tier was in quotes "dead on arrival" must be feeling very silly right now. Truly one of the iron Mugulis moments of all time
It's just because other times it has failed but that's only because uubers is completely different to oubl that people tried before completely different

@@jumpinjeff1709 you can run any OU pokemon in ubers uu. So the format always has access to pretty much all relevant pokemon+everything thats way too op normally. Though if next gen has no tera i wonder whats gonna happen to it. Lots pokemon banned to ubers uu because they can tera and win games off a single turn.
@@TheWretchedEgg12you can't run OU mons in UUbers if they have a high usage in Ubers. That's why people are using Cutiefly in UUbers instead of Ribombee
Just remember, the AG tier was created because there were Pokémon too Uber for the Ubers tier. The AG tier had to be banned because of Cyclizar and Shedinja. You could have a team full of LITERAL GODS, but if you didn’t have a check for the lizard and bug teams, you were going to lose.
You can thank Mega Rayquaza In Gen 7 for that. When I used that fella casually, my mind said that this is the guy who will shape Smogon Tiers Permanently. From then forward, UBERS shall be crowned as the NEW OU for future Generations to Come
The funny thing about Cutiefly is while it is generally considered worse overall as a webs setter compared to Masquerain, it is actually somehow faster, giving it a small niche. Btw, I'd love to see a video showcasing trick room, as uubers is really the only place in any of the singles metas where it is actually a viable strategy.
Cutiefly even has an additional niche; its speed + access to Imprison means it outright displaces other Sticky Webbers in this format since Cutiefly can stop their Webs while still setting up its own.
I am still of the opinion that if there are THIS many Pokemon banned from OU that they can make a whole new tier that SMOGON should rethink what OU even is.
imagine after indigo disc comes out and so many mons get banished to UUbers that it eventually just becomes the main tier of standard play and OU is left as a wasteland filled only with gambit valiant 50/50s and gholdengo and great tusk hazard spam.
Your are correct that UUber is likely the better format, as OU is crippled by trying to be a power level that is just not representitive of mordern pokemon design causing so many pokemon to get booted out into ubers. It is kinda weird they have non uber mon's banned in UUbers though. Effectively its the equivalent making ubers a entirely game type.
@@XenithShadowThat is very specifically the intention. It's one of the things that sets Ubers UU apart from other attempts to have something like an OUBL ladder - if you don't do it this way, it ends up just being worse OU.
Zekrom and Lunala were both quite viable in Gen 8 Ubers, being ranked A and B+ respectively. Zekrom might take a hit cuz of sharing a typing with Miraidon, but it will also get a huge power boost from Electric Terrain. Lunala also seems really good considering it can get rid of its one singular downside.
Really happy to see more people talking about this format. I really think it strikes the balance between a necessary break from OU and a fun opportunity to use some less-popular Pokémon perfectly. Here’s hoping that more people will give it a try and enjoy it!
I don't really see that? I mean there's over 1000 pokemon, many with multiple forms, and there's only like 6 fully official formats. A lot of things are gonna just not have a home, regardless of powercreep or balancing
I find it strange for pokemon like ribombee or skeledirge to be banned from UUbers, shouldn't it just function as a step between ubers and ou? How can something be acceptable for OU but unacceptable for the tier above it? Imo this tier should function as if every member of ubers got a reverse suspect test all at once so that this can just function as that intermediate tier and having staying power in that way rather than a just a quirky ubers offshoot. Banning pokemon from lower tiers feels silly to me, regardless of their usage in ubers
What I like most about this format is that if Uber RU ever comes to fruition it makes no Ubers mons that find themselves in Uber OU even more fascinating
Ubers UU has come and cemented itself at the right time, when there are now many legendaries who are just unfit for ubers' power level, and when there are multiple powercrept regular pokémon too strong for OU.
Coming from the future here. One thing that works well in UUbers is Roar. Usually it is on teams with Dialga and Magearna as a defensive core, where Magearna sets up Spikes and Dialga comes in later to use Roar on the opposing set up sweeper. I've had some success with Sp def Moltres with Roar too
Theorectically this could lead to Ubers based teiring where pokemon no longer get "banned" out of the top level of competive (Ubers). If this ended up happening all the previous teirs would end up being invalidated though. It does make for a significantly more inclusive metagame though as significantly less pokemon end being unusable if UUbers and potential teirs below it replaces OU at it lesser teirs. Although the return arena trap and shadow tag as legal abilities might make some people sad.
I mean, it seems more like NatDex, where it exists alongside but has a wildly different meta due to different bans (betting RUbers will just ban Gambit and Dengo rather than try to be OU 2.0)
UUbers may be my new home, not only can I use some of my favorite banned mons... but I can do it while escaping Great Tusk. The only further development I could hope for is a Gholdengo and Magerna ban from the tier. (Gholdengo is unlikely but a man can dream)

@@techknight3753 thankfully theres a lot of stuff that can check/counter magerna nicely (Tera ground/fire zacian, earth power/fireblast Palkia-o, a handful of arceus forms like fire and poison, chi-yu etc)

Honestly, i like the idea of ubers UU just being a long term OU format as dlc/meta develops. At first I thought "why isnt this just the OU format?", but having this as the premier OU really limits the team building until a solid amount of mons get placed in this limbo.
Redo the tier system with more tiers like this. Make ubers the central metagame so we don't have to make ubers ru. Eventually there will be enough ou bans to make an ubers ru a tier and so on.

With other middle tiers having been around so long, kinda surprising this hasn't existed until now. Though for newer gens, I mostly watch Randbats so maybe there weren't enough pokemon for it until gen 9
I think this is a great format. It prevents a Gen 8 situation where, by the end of the generation, it was just a less interesting Gen 7 format. This way OU can try to keep itself balanced, while there is still a format where people can use the new toys and mons.
@@coot33 More Ubers = OU, AG ignores certain rules like duplicate pokemon and such. But generally thats the gist of it. Starting with the tier with legends as the OU, and the filter out from there.
@@Missiletainn so no klefki or numel bans cause of ag rules. Should have been done since gen5 really when so much got banned in the name of a certain powerlevel.
@@thestylemage2092 This isn't even changing the format. It's just not banning anything and letting it filter down instead of banning a bunch of things at the start and filtering down. Also "You are free to attempt making your own format..." and you are free to attempt to make a billion dollar movie, but it's not gonna work out now is it. Dodging criticism by saying "do it yourself" is a childish interpretation of a defense.
I use cutiefly with sticky web and stun spore and if my opponent leads magearna i get guaranteed webs and if I get a paralysis I can u-turn into scarf jirachi and practically take their magearna with para-flinch Uninvested magearna doesnt even outspeed scarf jirachi when paralyzed at +6
It's very weird to me that Arceus-Dark and Arceus-Poison (two of the best defensive Arceus forms) are both UUbers by usage. I wonder if regular Ubers is just that insane.
It's more that Steel mons and coverage are Everywhere in Ubers and Fairy is common enough to do for Dark. Plus you have Zac-C throwing out Behemoth Blade and Play Rough while resisting Dark and Fighting (bodypress) And being immune to Poison. Add to that a bunch of Ground, Fighting, and Bug threats being thrown around and Poison and Dark just aren't great matchups.
