Some influencers went on a shein brand trip and its the stupidest thing I've ever seen Subscribe to my other channel!: @memeulous Instagram: / memeulous Twitter: / memeulous Business/media enquiries: george@memeulous.com
My favourite moment was when one of them said ‘and they weren’t even sweating!?’ Implying they think sweat shops are bad because the workers get sweaty
@24kgoldplatedvermeil I mean like are you totally missing the entire point and casually defending _brutal,_ inhuman modern-world slavery by getting caught up on nitpicky details on purpose or?
One of them literally said that the one they went to was the main design factory not like the mass production one so clearly designers and their colleagues are gonna have better conditions than the mass production halls man
Yeah it's like going to a creative amazon tech office and then going to the most overworked, underpaid delivery facility and expecting them to be the same, of course the tech office looks lovely, that's what they want you to see
This influencer probably think there's only one Amazon warehouse in the entire world that ships to every single country and the reason why shipping is so fast is because of magic.
That’s so dystopian omg… Also even if shein working conditions were great (which they definitely aren’t), it’d still be a major problem as they sell thousands of horrible quality clothing everyday which will get holes in and ruin after a month so will end up in landfills.
Which is a waste of the fabric used to make those crappy clothes, and the water used to grow the plants used for thread, all that jazz. Or in the case of polyester, a waste of plastic, I guess. We definitely don't need more thrown out plastic on this planet...
The key phrase was when she said this is where they make the samples. Of course the R&D department is nice. That's basically the offices and well paid jobs, making prototypes. Then she said it gets sent to the factory as samples. That's where the real 💩🕳️ is.
i thought it was common knowledge that companies like this put up fronts and force their employees to lie about the working conditions or else they get fired😭
@@--Archie MATHEW COMEDY NEVER WORKED AT SHEIN. You points may be valid but why are you typing like he actually worked there and actually had naps. HE DID NOT
@@--Archiebro I’m autistic as well, like really up on the spectrum, and I got the joke. This template of ‘as a __, I can confirm that __’ is one of the most used in the internet
This just shows me how bad Instagram is and to never go on it, no only are the people on it trash but it also has horrible features, even RU-vid made it so you can slide the shorts later on
I just did an 10,000 word essay about SHEIN and their unethical business practices and this video gave me a good laugh. This is just a marketing ploy because of all the heat that they get. Very entertaining video though 😁😁
Its actually embarrassing how easily people will believe this bullshit. And how they think theyre hard hitting journalists. Influencers are the worst (actually nah, the tiktok idiots who beg for gifts and do those leaderboard lives are still the worst for me...but these types are a close fucking second) Love your videos when you just rip into people like this. my only wish is if it was longer ❤
This looks like Shein took influencers around a guided tour (which will obviously make it look good). Going to the shiny HQ, going to the designing factory that produce SAMPLES (not that actual factories making the clothes).
"So what do you do for a living?" "I convince people of stuff." "Oh, like, good stuff I hope?" _Nervous laugh_ "Nah whatever they pay me for really" _Psychotic laughter_
what they’re doing is the equivalent of taking the guided tour of pyongyang and deciding north korea is an amazing country and the bad stuff about it must just be rumours
I'm British working in Vietnam and I'm 100% serious, nap time in Asia is completely normal in offices and many other work places 😆My whole company get out out the mats and nap after eating for 30mins
yeah this video is so bad from george. usually he’s kinda clueless but its funny because he’s talking about things that don’t really matter but he’s just obviously very uneducated here. the west think china is some dystopian hellscape where everyone works in sweatshops which is funny because if you even went to china you would see that is just not the case. it’s just western chauvinism. george should stop acting like china is the only country to do pr. as if there is no incentive for western media to say the exact opposite, making claims of horrific working conditions etc. in reality the truth is somewhere in between both claims and this video has zero nuance at all.
I think the point is that this isn't a random Asian office job, Shein is a literal chain of sweatshops with child labour and indentured servitude contracts.
I’m serious too when I was living and working in Japan for 4 years my company would allow me and other workers 10-20 minutes naps in the day if they could see we were tired or we complained about feeling exhausted. It’s allowed in Japan as often you don’t get to take your designated break and end up doing unpaid overtime so when there is a chance for someone to nap they allow you to on a desk or mat in a private room sometimes.
But it’s not luxurious, it’s not paid and it’s only when you really need it and when there are enough staff to cover and there is an opportunity to take that time off - otherwise good luck 😅
One of the videos said this was the "Innovation factories" where "The samples are made to be sent off to the other warehouses to be made" I bet those warehouses are where the abuse takes place - After all, that's where it's being mass produced.
Shein is based in singapore. She went to the factory in Guangzhou in china which has much stronger labour protections compared to singapore. Singapore has repeatedly had reports and accounts of poor conditons. Love the western sinophobia tho lol Oh and george, nap times are very common in china. So yes I believe when you say you're not an investigative journalist lol.
THANK YOU for being the only reasonable comment here. literally people circlejerking about how bad china is and simultaneously thinking they’re saying something brave and unique when they’re just uneducated or rather miseducated by western sensationalist media 😭
I really can't believe how vile of a person one has to be to agree to make propaganda content for one of the nastiest companies active in the west. Like what's even the next step, buying children for labour??
damn i wonder why north korea isn’t a great place to live, couldn’t be anything to do with the US killing a quarter of their population and carpet bombing all of their infrastructure during the korean war. and there’s no way it’s related to the brutal sanctions stopping imports of even basic medical equipment. it must be because they’re doing governments wrong and we’re doing it right!
That cringe argument about not being able to afford clothes other than the 4 euro ones that will break down in a month. U just say it to alleviate the remorse of buying from such sites and not get dragged for it. No need to have 100000 piece of clothing if u dont have money. Like by buying cheap ones, ull just pay the price for a normal priced one by having to buy the cheap one multiple times. If u can buy food, u can buy a 20 euro jean and a 10 euro t shirt thatll last u forever. If not, how do u afford internet and food? More than 4 euro:0!
@@amimiami82such a goofy and ignorant take, firstly you’re exaggerating how short the life of cheap clothes are, and also people have to buy cheap clothes BECAUSE they pay for food and bills and that takes up all their money
@@lachlanchester8142 i have bought from shein once b4 all this was even heard. I can assure u, every piece of clothing has a expiration date of 14 days of being worn. At the same time, i have a pair of jeans 40 euro that i have and still were from 7 years ago. Make good money management and stop buying impulsively the 1st cheap thing u see and ull have money for something worth more than that
@@amimiami82not everyone has the immediately available funds to be able to buy the more expensive stuff with better longevity. Look up Terry Pratchett's explanation on why it's expensive to be poor
I'm sure I could hear fear in their voices. I wonder how many were told that if they didn't give Shein a load of praise, then they would end up a statistic
Shein have multiple places they sorce their clothes for. Of course the MAIN factory has great working conditions, especially if it's a "Shein" factory. I don't doubt what they've been shown. They're just not being shown the rest of the factories, the ones that are cheap af and not shein brand.
what’s more terrifying is that people in the west are so blind to the idea that their own country’s media could lie to them and that “only those evil chinese would do propaganda”
I live and work in China. Nap time after lunch is a custom and quite popular here. So is walking after lunch. BUT I am not sure if factories do this and I would bet that smaller sweatshops wouldn't.
The "Shein warehouse staff get a nap time" thing is 100% something they say just in case visitors walk past a someone who's passed out from exhaustion. "Oh don't worry about them - they're just on their nap time. Honest!".
I own an ethical clothing company and ethical clothing isn't super expensive when it's coming from a ethical and environmentally friendly factory but all the textile have certifications to back up the claim.
That Dani lass just posted a ten minute waffle that I think was meant to be an apology. Saying she should have done more research. Going on about how she wants ethical clothes for plus size people etc. It's laughable really cause idk how she can look at the prices on Shein and think it was in any way ethical to begin with. 🤡🤡🤡
Unfortunatley SHEIN isn't special. Most global brands would rather spend money on PR and robots (which are cheaper than people) than paying workers a living wage. 😓 🚨But if you are an EU citizen you can make a difference!! The Good Clothes Fair Pay campaign is calling for the EU to make the payment of living wages a condition on all clothes imported into Europe. This would affect the global fashion supply chain. Please sign the EU Citizens initiative if you can! 🙏 You can find the info on our community page!! 💕 High end lux brands produce in the same factories making clothes for brands like H&M and ASOS. It's a myth that the more you spend on clothes the more money the workers get. Garment workers worldwide aren't paid enough to feed themselves. (Workers in Cambodia have been taking out loans to put food on the table.) Most garment workers are not only women who face gender based violence as a standard working condition but are also from the global south where there are fewer national social protections or opportunities for alternative work. So really this campaign is about giving power back to the women of colour who make our clothes. 🙌
Honestly can't blame her too much for the over dramaticness. She probably would've been kept in the country and disappeared if she wasn't overtly positive because 100% CCP officals reviewed the video before she was allowed to post. 😭😭 Can only blame her for taking the bait and going to the place.
nap time lmao i feel like at best that would mean 'we let them sleep through lunch if they're on inhumane shifts and sleep deprived cos we dont want any accidents with the machines'
That first influencer would put you to sleep with how she narrates her video. The whole narration was done in the same tone. How do these people get popular?
nap times are a normal practice at work in asia, even in japan. stop being ignorant of other cultures and do a second of research before leaving a sarcastic comment
You see so many Instagram creators just abusing the non-pausing. They make videos designed to make you look for longer, specifically to get more views. Hold the screen down boys, don't fall for this
I think they actually do have good working conditions in the innovation centre, thats where they design and prototype the clothing that is then sent to the sweatshop for mass production.
"Design" doing a lot of stretching in this case since they just rip off shit from people's etsy stores since copyright violation doesn't exist in China lmao
@@Ultra_fast0-0 Collaboration is when someone 1/1 steals someone else's work with no permission nor financial compensation to the individual who came up with it so they can cheaply mass produce it for nobody's profit except the CEO (I am very smart)
@@rottenfiggy well where they copy other brands clothing in prototypes that they send off to the factories that do the actual mass production and probably violate a lot of labour laws
Fancy saying I will never sell my soul after agreeing to the trip and signing the NDA contract agreement LMFAO Under NDA you’re bound not to say anything negative about trips and special influencer’s events so you will be biased towards them otherwise ending up getting blacklisted from all companies events so her addressing the backlash was totally tone-deaf including violating people’s rights to freedom of speech in America .
Believe they have a nap time after lunch. My son had a nap time after his lunch in Kindergarten... Probably at the same age as the workers there who werent child laborers.
They were taken aback because they don’t have internet like we do in the world so they have no clue about the child labour rumours and they work in the 1/2/3 ethical factories that exist for Shein unlike the 100’s other that are not ethical!
They're just some people who bait on people like what are they pointing at when there's no video and Is there creepy music like why do always show some music that has no sense.
The worst part is that the workers in the videos likely aren't paid MORE to lie about the company, just threatened their jobs if they don't lie. Which is only possible because they only employ desperate workers who'd rather get paid 50 cents an hour than nothing, only for these influencers to get a free paid holiday + more money than the workers earn in 5 years.
My favourite bit is when they're in a factory where most of the machines are EMPTY and not even turned on like.... be serious right now, I'm supposed to see that and believe it's an actual factory they use?
