I’m 100% with you on abolishing bar bell press. I had 165kg presses at 82kg but now need 2 shoulder reversal opps after years of pressing. Dumbbell’s are the way forward.

Did it ever cross your mind that maybe it wasn't the exercise but rather you. No one should need 2 shoulder surgeries from doing one specific movement. Unless you were doing it wrong for years. That's not how the human anatomy works. When you do something repeatedly with good form, you only strengthen the muscles and tendons, not degrade them.
@michaelmeyers4950

@@killerz613 - Ok. I‘ll try not to yell. Sir. Do dou know what a human body is? The most fundamental thing about the human body you have to know is that no human being is symetrical. If you force your hands on a metal bar into a symetric position your are already pushing your luck. Barbells are LITERALLY against human nature.

Mike, you're right in at least 98% of what you are saying once again. Deadlifts are definetly the dumbest thing ever in my eyes. I still do them but only for the reason that I specifically do them for my errectors only. I do them very slow and very light and my errectors burn like Napalm when I do 25pounds on each side.

Proper deadlift form is antithetical to back growth. Like Mike said, you don't want to contract your back on a deadlift, you want to stay rounded and keep your arms as long as possible. Do RDLs for all the benefits for hams and glutes, and do rows for your back. Pretty simple.

binge watching your videos, even random 2+ year old ones, keep injuring myself, this time my shoulders (top area), i think its the same machine (seated chest press [both seated and flat]/and the incline one], I think i was doing too much weight after taking 2 weeks off. Most of your videos suggest lowering the weights more, so i will do that when i can, love this channel and Dr Mike Isr. (yours is more "how to do" with comedy) Please keep it up, its useful as h3ll !!!

To me, barbell moves are best performed with closer grips that align your joints. I think people take for granted that the bar locks you in and that can really sheer your joints. Bench press and barbell curls being prime examples.

Mike is right about the barbell bench press being bad. Imo a barbell floor press is good though cause it works the same muscles but eliminates.the beating on the non-muscles of the shoulders. Think of how chest works in real life like a football player blocking someone. Its a floor press motion.

Agree, once The load gets relatively heavy…the barbell OHP caused some minor shoulder pain. Ditched it and my shoulders still grew. Once I was able to do 405 for reps on the deadlift…systemic fatigue was too much and bodybuilding took a hit so I ditched it and everything started to grow! Big Mike is on point with this! ✅

If you perform any of the big 4 with correct technique; leave your ego at the door and don’t train to failure you should be fine. But remember everyone is different,and your last rep at 405 should look like your first rep at 135 if it doesn’t and you’re muscle fucking it up….. guess what you’re probably going to get injured

@@fitzy28101 damn really! I injured my back at your age doing rack pulls. Did this for many years and it just got me that day. My chiropractor had a spinal traction chair that was able to fix it but it was painful therapy and recovery. Haven't done them since. I've now realized there's just certain lifts and weight amounts I shouldn't do anymore. As a Masters competitor I'm working on fine tuning and adding size where it's safe to do it.

Coming from a former powerlifting background I’d like to also add barbell shrugs as one of the most useless bastardized exercises ever. Luckily by the time I was 19 and doing 500 for strict sets of 15 I caught on. Complete pain in the ass to load and unload that much weight for just traps. There are tons of other shrug variations alone that do a much better job of building the traps. When I was actually powerlifting I didn’t even do shrugs because I was deadlifting 1 to 2 times a week and my traps grew like weeds. I can also vouch that I’ve seen tons of guys in my gym blow out pecs and tear triceps on bench press, herniate disks from deadlifts, basically everyone ends up with ZERO shoulder mobility and rotator cuff injuries. The worst part is the only people that care about how much you do on these lifts is other dudes and most of them are complete morons that you don’t value their opinions regardless. It’s not worth it guys.

It's a sound list from a bodybuilding point of view. As you age, you find what works for you. Also, you'll create a series of excesses that work for you through trial and error, e.g., dumbbell bench over Barbell bench, cable fly over dumbbell fly. Today, there is a lot of confusion because of all the information. Compared to when there was word of mouth, magazines, and books. Plus, there are guys making videos on RU-vid training with no top on; they look like it is working for them because they ripped. Aesthetics over wisdom: I'll take wisdom.

@DanBatista 3 месяца назад
You can still buy a bench but just do dumbbell presses instead. Dumbbells don't improve the stability of the lift (if anything, they increase instability) but they allow your shoulders and arms freedom, unlike a barbell, which can force your shoulders into compromised positions (especially under heavy loads). Better still, join a gym and use a pressing machine and a fly machine.
