😮 WTH? I think I’ll stick with G shock, Seiko, Hamilton and Tissot. Tissot is the Seiko of Europe. 😂

Only "fancy" watch I own is a Tissot with a Powermatic 80. At least they don't try to hid the fact that it's an ETA-based movement, and even modified it make it something genuinely Tissot. You can clearly see the tiny ETA logo engraved on the movement through the sapphire case back.

Got my Tag Heuer Aquaracer 200 with the blue dail recently as my wedding present, when this watch came out, I fall in love for the look of it and perfect size for my wrist. But I knew im not gonna pay the 3000USD retail for that movement. I looked around and found one brand new second hand for half of the retail price, that price tag makes more sense to me and I bought it straight away. When I was doing research on this watch, the hate on Tag Heuer is crazy, but mainly cuz they are overpriced, and things that T3 stated in this vid. But I would suggest if you love the watch, do some research and look around before you buy. I am totally happy with this watch, and it holds a sentimental value.
@mell3109

Good for you mate. TH got nailed on one watch not their entire catalogue, they have great heritage and have made some fantastic movements. Video like this are a bit misleading at most brands have had to adopt other movements at some time and didn’t own up to it. Ultimately the watch you have is a great piece and better still you have the story to match it.

@johnjameson2512
@johnjameson2512 Год назад
@@justinwhite4995 well generally I will say a brand new condition second hand Tag Heuer will be at least 50% off its retail price, but it also depends on what movement the watch have, for example the Aquaracer also offer quartz version that might be cheaper than the Sellita version. Im not sure abt Monaco cuz I dont know much abt it. But I would still suggest do your own research, so you know what you are spending your hard earned money on😊

Their deception is why I shop micro-brands. It means I can still get nice watches with decent movements (Sellita, ETA, Valjoux, Seiko etc.), and more of them, without spending thousands on one major brand and having to stop there. To think that I almost purchased one of those Panerai watches. Phew!
@aristotlejb82

Recently bought an Orient Defender 2 from Jomashop on sale for around $160. This actually has an in house movement and keeps helluva acurate time for that price +4 seconds. Always loved the look of Panerais but with thier recent press I am better off with an Orient or four of them 😂. Watches are also like cars, most expensive ones aren't the most functional or realiable and mostly just marketing.

I’ve bought an Orient Kamasu for my father and myself when I first got into wristwatches, and they’ve been constantly wound and running for 2 years, and it’s still accurate to +-3 seconds and +-7 seconds respectively, from when we first set it to the exact accurate time to the seconds using the international GMT time. We definitely got lucky but in the end, it mainly is the luxury branding and feeling isn’t it.
@ssnerd583
@ssnerd583 Год назад
I collect Orient watches and the least accurate one I have is about -20sec/day and its from the 1980's. Most of my 'new(ish)' ones(2000+) are under +/-10sec/day. These arent the best watches out there, but they are inexpensive mechanical time pieces with tons of character.

Hublot and Panerai I understand, but I am almost sad about TAG. I LOVE them and have wanted a watch for a while now. One of my friends has an AquaRacer that is so beautiful and comfortable, and I have always wanted a Monaco (Moreso after seeing one in person and trying it on) I have heard mixed things with TAG but my friend who owns one loves it, and I felt I would too. Knowing the movement is not a real "100% In-House" movement breaks me and makes me wonder if there is a better option for the Monaco looks (Bulova has a pseudo-clone cheap that I almost want to try) but with a movement and a price that is actually worth it! (Please I want a TAG so bad and this made me depressed now!)

Buy the watch YOU love and want. The movement in question was an extremely modified movement. Everything was redesigned by Tag if I remember correctly but the wording from them was not fully honest. In my opinion miles better build quality and feel than comparable Longines, Oris, Certina etc. peace ✌🏻

Finally someone said "WTF do you know?" and it was then that the person revealed that they were Jean Christophe Babin, the then CEO of TH... Do I bash TH hard? YOU BET. Why? Because like many others who do, I own one. I could sell it, but I keep it as a reminder to do my research. Like most, it was my first watch and my last mistake. Then there should be an honorable mention for U-Boat putting "standard" calibers in them with a big plastic spacer ring so it fits the sewer lid of a watch. At least Panerai collected their screw ups and replaced the movement with a finished one and gave it back. You could also mention how before Swatch wanted to stop selling movements, companies were buying the rights to defunct out of business brands, digging up any relative they could find and making up a story about how they are continuing the family's history of watchmaking.... A view from the UK. well done. I have been banging on for years about this. How much of the cost of a watch is in the movement. I've got a funny feeling that should you or i pursue this line of investigation, you would be very unpopular very quickly. Even "in house" made movements have components mass produced on machines for assembly. Rolex is a good example & admit to making 800,000 units a year so economies of scale come into play here regarding cost to manufacture. Yet this brand sells at ludicrous prices. There is an old saying in marketing which is; Create an image and sell that image. Off-Road 4x4 vehicles are a good example. My own passion in horology are the hand crafted movements such as the Lange & Sohne, Vacheron Constantin etc.

Does Longines use in house?

That was my problem/concern with Rolex. Now they are coming with display case backs. But they are 20x more expensive. Crazy.

After long time using outside movs,( like Zenith), Rolex aquired their "in house" without developing them. R simply bought mov makers.

Ahh. I’m new to this. But ya. I headed something similar. It’s kinda a shame for what you paying but many high end makers buy outside movements and just ass the emblem or some etching or cut outs on the rotor counterweight and call it “in house”. Guess that’s the biz. Like cars and trucks. Other companies build there engines (especially diesels trucks- example GM Diesel is Isuzu, Cummins , dodge and International , Peugeot / fiat, ford. It’s a shame. But gotta contract the work out to the specialist to get the assembly line rolling to make money and decorate and “tune” for marketing. Damn shame.

Zenith made mov for many watchmakers. And I think JLC?? Not sure. One of those. It’s really interesting to be honest. But can’t beat and ETA on my hammys thos. My daily drivers

I. Seeing the term “manufacture” used more than “in house” in my research for my next grail watch.

Can TAG Heuer still print "SWISS MADE" on a watch if its movement is made by Seiko?

3 brands I would’ve never bought before seeing this video. This just reinforced what I already thought of these crap brands.

Why would anyone pay extra for a decorated movement in a watch with no display back??

I’m glad I came back. I had arbitrarily kick you out of my subscriber list but one screw tube did Jody dirty you were one of the ones that stood up for him and I respect stand up guys and I found out after watching anymore now I hate to admit it I was wrong about you. We actually agree quite a bit on watches

I'm not convinced that this is as big a revelation as you're making it out to be. Most watch enthusiasts are aware of these untruthful representations.

"In house" is cool, but not everything. A good movement is a good movement even in a foreign case.

Well... That's the Panerai Luminor Quaranta PAM01372 off my collection list. I followed up your video with a search across multiple platforms and watch sites, including Panerai, but couldn't find anything other than a reference to movement being 'automatic' and then a load of faff about watch straps, date windows, power reserves, and sunburst dials, with Panerai bombarding the viewer with random images of models trying to give Balenciaga a run for its money. What I found (or to he precisely the lack thereof) was enough for me to think twice. Thanks for the heads up.
