These are a pretty cool idea. They are kind of a modern take on running sheet metal screws into the wheel and bead of the tire. I'm glad you took the tumble weeds with you!!! Great vid.👍👍👍

I'm glad y'all did an episode on these wheels and I'm sorry I didn't bring our Jeep by back in October when I mentioned it to y'alls shop! The Icon Rebound Pro is a great DOT compliant beadlock and can easily get into the single digit psi range. Icon mentioned they will be looking into making the "pro" versions of a few more of their wheel styles so new stuff may be coming out with this beadlock design from them. We love ours and can't wait to put more off-road miles on them! Heading to Colorado this summer to put them through the paces on some of the honor trials.😊

I like the concept of having a DOT approved B lock style but I feel that one of the big advantages of a bee lock is how easy it is to open it up hatchet inside and put it back together on the trail you’re going to lose that with the icon rim definitely focused on the daily driver side of Wheeling

Any possibility those bolts sticking through like that become a pinch point when the tire is low on air and you go over a rock if you get what I mean

I know what you mean and no, I don’t think that’s a concern. The depth and angle of the bolt isn’t enough to cause that type of failure, imo.

Seems to me that if the O-rings go on those bolts you’re gonna have a leak so you might have to replace those often what are your thoughts

I think the rubber o-ring will last about as long as the rubber valve stem and the rubber tires, so they should be maintained similarly. They do give you quite a few extras.

I love those wheels. Plus they will not get you a ticket if your stopped by the cops unlike traditional beadlock's these wheels are DOT approved. Icon and Method have both advanced the off-roading wheel design. Have you weighed these wheels compared to a traditional beadlock?

I'm curious how long the o-rings will last, before they start to deteriorate. The heat and sun really take a toll out here in the desert.

Pay for install, what's that? Interesting take on beadlock, unfortunately the locking mechanism is intermittent. Would be cool if the locking g bolts pushed on an internal ring so you still get full surface lock.

I think they ran me $375 a rim at Discount. Keep in mind tho, discount will order them, but not mount them being a beadlock, but once mounted they will still rotate and balance them. I originally asked Exodus to put them on for me, but the dealer finally caved and did it when they did a couple other add-ons for us.

From my understanding the DOT does not approve is disapprove wheels. The DOT publishes the standard and manufacturers either meet the standard or they do not.

IDK, guys. "Aired down" to what psi? You never said. Looks like you didn't drop below 18, maybe 16. You didn't air down any more than I would with non-beadlocks. The point of beadlocks is so you can air down to super low (like single digits). Not sure how those bolts will hold a bead as well as a set of Hutchinson. A 3 piece clamp method is the best. This just looks gimmicky.
@Exodus4x4
@Exodus4x4 2 года назад
Actually no, the point of a beadlock is to air down enough to gain more traction. You actually can air down too much and lose an advantage. Slickrock does not require airing down a tremendous amount and so we stopped at 18 psi. Keep in mind this is a 35” tire and a relatively heavy vehicle. Some lighter platforms like the TJ might require going to a lower psi to achieve the same amount of sidewall bulge. We didn’t capture it on video but there were several times when we had the tires pretty squished in the rocks with these and had no issues. If you know of someone that’s had issues with them I’d love to talk to them about it. I don’t think they’re some perfect wheel, but a great option for certain people like the overlanding crowd. I’d still go with a traditional beadlock ring wheel on a hardcore crawler.
@rodtoler
@rodtoler 2 года назад
@@Exodus4x4 I can see them as a cost saving overlanding option as you said. I am a rock crawler & mud bogger. I agree and disagree with your low air comment. Yes, the point of lowering PSI is to gain a larger foot print. But it is a longer foot print. Not a wider one, Rock crawlers run much lower PSI. I run 15 for combo trails. As low as 12 when it is just rocks. My buddies on 40s run as low as 8-10 (nuts). My tires need to cup the rocks like hand holds. This is why side biters are so critical for out tires. It is for both protection and so we do not lose the advantage you spoke of. I have another Jeep we use for regular trails and light wheeling. Never drops below 17 psi on 35s. No bead locks either. I would love to see a research video or a CGI breakdown on the theory behind this design. Always willing to learn and accept new tech. One day I may even accept Ford as an off-road wannabe Jeep competitor. Not there yet. But maybe one day.
