Greninja is definitely my favorite card this year. Not a charizard and looks absolutely amazing in person. Plus Greninja is an all time favorite from a lot of people. 😂 i see why its high, plus pull rates!

The ARs are just easier to pull in Japanese, you can get a box for £30-£40, you’re guaranteed 3 ARs per box, you can basically get 3 Japanese boxes for the price of one English. There is also usually only 12 ARs in a Japanese set. And we’re not even guaranteed 3 IRs in the English boxes… So basically it’s FAR cheaper to get Japanese AR cards and you’re pulling from a smaller pool of artworks, so are more likely to get the card you want…pretty simple 🤷🏼‍♂️

Got the Japanese version of Greninja and it looks pretty cool when in hand. ✨ Not sure if it’s worth $170 but it’s a really really vibrant card and a fan favourite Pokemon. So can see it staying at a high price for a while.

I can see why Magikarp is up there from a grading (love it or hate it) stand point. PSA population reports show that only about 23% of all submitted are 10s. That coupled with an approximately 1 in 500 chance of pulling it in the larger set like Paldea Evolved makes it a not so unreasonable price point.

I think we should do our best to give AS LITTLE attention and coverage as possible to these kinds of price surges. It's well known that there are orchestrated groups of people who cause this to occur. I suppose if they cause the baseline to permanetnely to change, then we can only temporarily call it an "artifical" fluctuation. Nevertheless, we should at least agree that these buyouts are meant to cause a frenzy. If you didn't already own these cards and then you buy in response to the surge, then you play into these people's hands.
