I am perplexed how they could have spiral staircases in older versions of this game and yet with technology being what it is now -- no spiral staircases.
"if they can do it with a fence they can do it with a wall" now someone tell the devs if they can do it with a door, they can do it with a gate when it comes to alt-placing
It's not that simple because even curved walls are mostly flat so they can just hide part of the texture and put a window in the hole, if they did that with a gate, if it's thinner than the fence you'd be able to see the inside of the fence since computer models are hollow. Walls are always the same thickness so the doors and windows can be made to cover the gap but they can't do that with fences. I don't think they'll completely change the way fences work and recreate every fence with the new system just to allow that in a Sims 4 update so we can only hope they'll do it in Sims 5
@@DecafDawren sounds like it's just another one of those things that would've been easier to fix if they had made fences easier to work with from the beginning of development. i wish there were at least some~ fences with consistent textures similar to the gates being alt-placed onto them.
@@DecafDawren considering you can see inside the walls when you place doors and windows on joining wall sections, its already a non issue. So yes, it's that simple. I dont think anyone cares about a little texture issues over functionality.
@@lawrencefosterjenkins8216 They probably didn't see a need to make it more complicated that it needed to be since they didn't seem to have planned for even doors to be alt-placeable so the original system was great for what they wanted but having more flexibility from the start would've made building so much better
i think another reason they added curved walls is because Paralives is taking the spotlight and Sims is getting nervous lets hope they keep adding more stuff like this because of the competition
Though I hope Paralives doesn't show their complete hand. At this point it feels like sims is just stealing their ideas like alt placing and now the curved walls...

I feel like when sims do things tho they have better implementation (of course these are a bit buggy now) and Paralives feels more build focused when that’s only one part of a life sim experience there’s still a lot more sims can do imo
Hanging clothes backwards is a technique used to help declutter a wardrobe. Hang all the clothes backwards and as you wear something the hanger is turned to the right direction. After a predetermined time (6 months to a year), anything that is still hanging backwards is most likely something you don’t use often enough to keep.
I always struggle over clothes that I never use but which are needed for hyper specific situations. For example, I have a black button down that I never wear normally but sometimes the occasion arises where I’m required to wear a black button down.
@@discreetscrivener7885 I think that would be a good exception, you'd really want to keep the nice clothes for specific occasions like funerals, weddings, etc. unless you have multiples of those types of clothing.
I'm a tiny bit sad that these don't work as smoothly as they should BUT I'm happy to have any kind of curved wall at all. I'm HOPING that they continue to work on these to perfect them so that some kind of freehand drawing and half walls will be able to work in the future. I'm hoping they don't just say there it's done moving on now. And I hope we get some more curved doors and windows in future packs. Even a build kit specifically made for these curved walls would be totally worth the 5 bucks to me. Now I need curved kitchen counters and stairs. I keep waiting for spiral and curved stairs but at this point I don't even know if they are working on that.
I don't think this is the final software, but either way I'm not surprised that this is a bit glitchy. Rounded foundations have always been a pain in the butt. The game acts like they operate on a different plane of existence from everything else. I hope they improve it over time. On the plus side, the Sims 4 build mode is really strong. It's also the area the devs have babied the most and where we've gotten the most consistent updates and bug fixes.
It’s a good starting point in my opinion it’s difficult trying to integrate new build technology into an old engine it’s very much a sims 4 pack chaotic game play and glitchy build items but we always manage to make it work somehow and our wonderful mod and cc creators will come to the rescue and make it function in a bearable way.
I feel like this is the earlliest step but more updates will add features to it, like inverse round walls, support for more round windows and doors, round half walls maybe spiral staircases. As they are right now they're very limited and i am no longer suprised they didn't use them at all in Copperdale.
They could have made it so that you drew a straight wall and then could pull it out into a curve with a tool similar to the roof manipulation tools. They wouldn't even need to freely dragable, they could just have them snap to certain curves to make it easier for them to make doors and windows fit
@@IHadSoManyIngots i'm pretty sure if the game allowed for that for walls, they would have done it already. The game is built on a flawed and limited base. That's why Paralives can afford to do that, they started with a better base.
Just painting ceilings and true spiral stairs and the Sims 4’s building mode would be “fundamentally” finished. We got our terrain tools, split levelling, pond tool, stair customisation and now circular walls. 8 years later.
Seriously at this point even only being able to change the ceilings for the entire lot at once would be so much better, I just want to finally be able to get rid of the bright white ceilings where they don't fit
Seeing a lot of graphical issues there. With the roof edging as you noted, but also with furniture disappearing when you pan the camera outside and the ceiling not appearing from inside. Shocks me that no one has pointed out that the shadows are really screwy at the inner floor edge of the curves. As they are now, I won't be using them, but I'm hoping this will be fixed in future updates.
I can think of some nice futuristic builds, but, as someone who has built quite a lot of castles in TS4, I can already tell it would be a genuine nightmare. Unfortunately, you just can't build a to-scale, recreation of a real castle. You won't be able to fit everything you want - the guestrooms, ball room, throne room - so you have to use as much space as possible, while making it look decent. A bunch of thin towers would just get in the way when playing with the walls up. You also won't even be able to easily add detail, such as windows, crenellations, or vines, which you can add with a similar square or octagon towers. Additionally, most curved towers in historical castles are part of the exterior battlements (better sightlines), not the keep itself, so you'd have add connecting walls or hallways between them. Doable, but it won't look as good and will be kind of buggy.
The joke with the 'backwards' toilet paper is that, despite some people finding it upsetting, it's the go-to for people with pets (cats, for example, WILL see the roll as a toy). By contrast, I've never known someone who intentionally makes it more difficult to remove their clothes from a closet.

@@imphie I’ve never seen dogs play with the toilet roll before though. I think that’s just a cat thing. I have a dog who has never done it and I’ve never heard of anyone else’s dog doing it either. I hear a bout cats doing it a lot.
I love how James immediately investigates the potential limitations of the curved walls instead of just acting overly excited for this one small feature
Ngl I'm a little disappointed that they can't be used to make concaved walls and that they aren't going to be very useful for indoor rooms. Hopefully they update that in the future, otherwise that kind of takes out 75% of the fun of curvy walls.
If you make the whole house indoors first, you could probably use them to separate two indoor rooms from eachother without messing the lighting up. I think the problem is just if you try to make the exterior of a building concave
you can use the base game tiny rectangle window and use a bunch of them right next to and on top of each other, and then you can layer a bigger glass window over them to make them a little less transparent. not perfect but looks pretty good.
Also a hot style in detroit homes and businesses Almost every house I visited in detroit had either a window or accent wall of those glass bricks. Specially in the bathrooms, brilliant for bathroom windows just brilliant.

You could do a house that's tiered like a wedding cake. A big circle for the ground floor and a medium circle for the middle floor and a small circle for the top floor.
I was just thinking that a small circle in a large circle would be cool too. I've stayed in rondawels where at least there was about a quarter smaller circle in the larger round house. From James trying wavy walls, that wouldn't work though. Also, Sims doesn't have custom builders/carpenters to build single beds into the rooms that were 2 parallel curves...
Hmm, maybe I would build a bakery shaped like that. Like, the kitchen could be on the mid-tier floor, and both the shop floor and in-store bathroom in the bottom tier floor, leaving the top tier floor as purely decorative. Also, for extra points: have them sell actual wedding cakes.
There is an organization trick where you hang all your clothes on the hanger and hang them backward. When you wear an item, you hang it up correctly, and after a period of time you can tell easily what items you really use and which ones you can part with.
I was excited about the rounded walls but now I'm little bit dissapointed with all these limitations and glitches. I'm not a builder and I feel like will not use the rounded walls very often because of this. I don't want to watch tutorial videos before I'm able to build a house I like to have. It doesn't seems to be very intuitive.
The increasing disappointment James goes through after each attempt to flex his creativity is palpable. It’s like they take one step forward and two steps back.

curved walls are complicated to make it work in game, u can't just make a curved wall like in most game,s u must make sure it works with all the game features if possible, and they did go extra letting people put doors and windows, i was expectating to not be able to do anything with it.
@@curlycrazy3513 Indirectly, we are supposed to be their boss. They make a product they want us to buy. Their job is to make things people will want enough to pay for. The problems here are caused but the intermediate boss, EA, for setting deadlines that are unrealistic, but it's completely reasonable to say that you'd prefer to wait longer for something that's actually finished. The developers aren't going to read this and feel personally offended. They know that they've done the best they can with the time they had. They know the glitches are there, they would probably also prefer more time to be able to actually finish their work.
There are completely round houses in Puglia, Italy, called Trulli, it would be really cool if you could build one. Like maybe a modern renovation of one of those (they are really old, rustic houses).
We have rondawels in South Africa which I was looking forward to build, but they have a thatch roof that comes to a point at the top and the bit of James fiddling with the roof didn't make that look possible.
SO excited for all the wacky 40’s/50’s ~home of the future~ houses we can build now! I’ve always been intrigued by all those retro-future house trends that popped up in the post-war era and I can’t wait to finally play around with them in the sims!
I love play testing like this tho, and we know the team does too, cuz there will be things done they never thought of trying. That's why it's a community that has helped create Sims be who they are today.
I can’t wait to see all the cool builds that use curved walls. I’m also excited to see the CC people come up with. I hope EA brings out more things to go with them like half walls, roofs, and furniture that curves with them. This could be so cool as long as there aren’t any big glitches. I hope they fix the gaps in the ceiling glitch too.

Yep. For seeing what you’ve worn recently or for favourite garments, it’s really useful. I’m also that madman who hooks hangers onto the ‘neck’ of other hangers like a chain to make an outfit stack. It works pretty well as long as there’s not too many and the balance isn’t too far one way (solved by alternating the way the hooks are facing to be left, right, left etc instead of all one way).
James: "they forgot the toliet in the build" Also James forgets bathroom entirely lol But he was just experimenting so its not technically a finished house anyways.
I am 2:05 into the video and I am so impressed with how James tested the walls. Honestly he should be hired to help find these situations and help make the sims 4 better. Although one could argue that by just doing what he does now he HAS made the sims 4 better like so many other sims 4 gamers on YT. I am just so fucking impressed. Great job James!! Watching you and Deli always gets me in the mood to play the sims4! Also really loving the High School years play through!!
I love that any of us who have been following James for years and years know of his journey and desire to create a true round house/building and I feel like this is a huge achievement that he finally reached it!

It seems like there are a bunch of little polish things that they missed in making these (like the weird ceiling glitches, the being able to place walls through the curve/walls clipping, etc.) and I just want to know what happened. Did they not test it very rigorously at all and totally miss all of these little glitches (that clearly become obvious with a few minutes of experimenting as James just demonstrated) or did they test them and notice these issues and just decide to send it out anyway and hope no one would notice or care?
Haha I love that your first instinct is to find the limitations for them! I feel like you exploring just shows how complicated it is to add this in to the game. Lots of people think it's so simple but there are so many things that need to work seemlessly for them to be used.
I put my hangers backwards in my closet twice a year, then put them regular as I do laundry so I can see what I wear/don't wear. After the season ends those are the clothes I know I don't wear and I donate them🏆
Thank you for making this video! I'm not surprised that they're as rudimentary as they are at the moment but I'm hopeful that this is just the first iteration of them and that the odd glitches will be fixed with future updates.
I have a feeling they're watching Paralives verry closely. Because they already had these things designed and implemented months ago and it's not even in Early Access yet.
Omg when you started adding beds to those rooms it hit me. This dragged me straight back to sims 1 and the first family I ever played at like 8 years old. So close to the house I played 😯
I can only hope windows in the future work with this feature and it doesn’t become over-sighted and they over time get all the windows and doors to work and then implement it with half walls.
You should try redoing the 90s Circle House with these new walls! I'd love to see if it works or not. I have a feeling it'd be a struggle, but it'd be cool to see.
🤔☝️ Just thought of something that needs testing! After adding the 4 rounded sections together to create a circle room, then remove the inner walls, can you: 1) play with platforms within it? 2) I'm curious to see a rounded room have a lower floor so that it needs like 1 or 2 steps to a door that leads to another room that is not a circle room.
I really hope the sims 5 (if it ever releases) moves away from the 'rooms' style of building. Sims 4 feels like i need a degree in theoretical physics just to remove the floor above my staircase, compared to sims 3 where you literally just had to use the hammer on the tile you didnt want, do that in sims 4 and it deletes half your house.
This was the most captivating video I've ever seen. James is my absolute favorite RU-vidr he does great content on both his channels. Very nice victorian houses here I come.

Please, someone talented who can get this expension pack, build with curved walls a house which looks like a red mushroom. I think it would look amazing built by people whose doing very detail buildings and know how to decorate it and get stunning effects
The curved walls are going to be in basegame so there’s potential for anyone to make a mushroom house. A little fairy village would be so cute and I can imagine some nice wooden huts and next level treehouses. Even some hyper modern houses… perhaps a landgraab renovation?

@@kara6437 With the tool mod, people could resize tables or maybe even those round pool lights or something along those lines and tilt them to make the white dots, perhaps?
I put them backwards sometimes. Like if i want to clean out clothes I don't use. Hang them backwards once and remove the clothes still hanging backwards after maybe 6 months.
I really love the furniture in this pack and the werewolf pack so much. I'm so thoroughly impressed. I'm waiting for a big sale in the future so I can get both :')
If it's rounded it's generally more Art Noveau. I mean, they are pretty similar, but... Art Deco is more angular and square. I believe. Ten bucks says somebody will correct me now.
Only James can make an almost 30 minute long video about curved walls. 🤣 Was very interesting to watch tho. I think you do more testing than EA does. 😅 Also with all the features they give us lately I'm kinda wondering if they are keeping an eye on the developement of Paralives. 👀
I see rounded walls and James and my brain goes Batuu ! Sad they don't have rounded basements (yet ?) but I can totally see myself creating some cool Starwars homes. And lighthouses maybe for Windenburg, Tartosa and Brindleton Bay. Also I'm sure some talented builders will come up with nice Hobbit Holes.
Now imagine a big round restaurant, where everything is open (Beside the toilets), in the middle is the kitchen, and people sit around it, able to see the cooks work

This is definitely thinking WAY too highly of EA, but I HOPE they watch the entirety of this video and see all the places where James says he can't do something, and FIX IT. Because otherwise this is just another "Okay, fine! Here's your stupid feature you won't shut up about. But we're not gonna make it good."
It feels like they did curved walls with no real effort put into it, idk, to me it seems like you can use it only in a few specific ways and that’s it.. kind of a bummer ://
I would happily pay for a kit that added a bunch of curved doors and windows in different styles… and maybe even a stuff pack if they added spiral staircases… or better yet if a cc creator makes one on Patreon I’d love to pay them for that since they usually do a better job🤷🏻♀️
