Horse racing in itself is already highly abusive and dangerous. Whoever had the stupid idea to put obstacles on the course, needs to rot in hell. Horses already die on racetracks enough as it is, no need to make it even more dangerous by adding freaking jumps!

But they are almost never drugged and treated really well, and when they are miss treated the people get into extreme trouble. Jockeys build a relationship with the horses they ride. Whipping a horse don't hurt them just depends on how hard you do it, but no matter how hard these horses don't feel the pain cause if their adrenaline. These horses love their jobs, ik this first hand personally, and I am also training to be one. These horses are treated better then most horses actually better then your horses and the everyday horse. These horse are not drugged they were only drugged way way way back in the day that is done and over with, and when someone is caught they get put in prison just like any abuse with these horse. Like I said I personally know all of this, my are facts, not uneducated guesses like yours. 😂😂

carol mckeowen I never said anything about drugs , I just meant that a few of these falls were caused from the recklessness of the jockey riding . I am not against racing on fact I enjoy watching, it's just when I watch a horse fall and be fatally injured when I see it was the jockeys fault really angers me.

I feel bad for these horses getting injured. I feel bad for alot of horses that are used to make money and them thrown away. But I don’t think we should really be saying that every horse owner in the racing world is an abuser. Not every horse has a money thirsty pscho as an owner. Alot of these horse owners probably love what they are doing and so does the horses. They care about them and love them, just like any other horse owner. What happned in these races were accidents and their owners were most likely devestated. Is it really fair that we are going to sit over our phones, computers etc and call them abusers? I dont agree with how much some of the jockeys use the whip, I don’t. Let’s just remember that it is just some of them that use them too much, and not think every jockey is like that. Maybe the way the jockeys ride make it look abusive, but most of their movements are for motivation and for pushing the horse forward. My point is: Accidents can happen in ANY horse sport. Most of these owners were probably heartbroken because of the accidents. Throwing the Word abuse around is not something to take lightly
I honestly hate horse and dog races. The ONLY time I have respect for these people, and the jockey, is when they show full respect to their horse and/or dogs, and give all the love they can give! Not forgetting to mention the animals NOT being pushed harder and punished for NOT winning. That is where I will respect the owners, breeders, and jockey.

Even if you ride the least abusive way possible it will still hurt the horse over time. But spending meaningful time with the horse and caring for it, without having to be on its back is beautiful. lmao it actually doesn't though? the only way this would happen is if you're overworking them, not feeding them right, too much weight, wrong gear/tack, the horse has health issues, you don't shoe/trim their feet right etc. Plus they are very sensitive. so any little changes can fuck them up but generally if you know what your doing and keeping proper care, riding them casually does not "hurt them over time". sorry but that's the truth. -Unfortunately - most riders are twats im not gonna lie. I was one of them before i learned. lol

It's usually their own fault as they sometimes inject young horses with a drug to make their bones grow quicker but it something doesn't work and the bones weaken and crumble and ugh just imaging being one of those poor horses, being in pain and not even being able to tell anyone about it 😥
carol mckeowen actually the horses in the horse racing industry are drugged so much so they do not feel they pain. They start at such a young age that it’s terrible. If you think drugs are not used in the horse racing industry they you are horribly mistaken
Years ago Tennessee Walking Horse were subjected to severe abuse to the hooves so the high stepping gate could be a achieved. It was awful. I had 2 of these horses. The natural gate was beautiful. I only had the hooves trimmed and a light shoe on them. A law was made to stop this abuse. I think steeplechase should be against the law. Higher and higher jumps in shows should also be stopped. A woman was killed near where l live when she was practicing jumps. The horse fell on her. My 2 walking horses lived to be 28 the other 30 years old. The pleasure l had was the love and care of them.
Aside from the injuries and injustice the horses serve, imagine having that much pressure and stress thrown at you in that moment when the gates open. Holy shit.

I’m well aware they run fast naturally but going so fast that one fall breaks a leg and takes their life is entirely possible and does happen cause rehab isn’t always possible and they aren’t always willing to put that effort into their recovery. Its sad sure, but its been a sport for mannnny mannnny moons, people enjoy it and so do the horses, its NO different then a professional skier going 80+ mph, put there lives in danger everyday, many die, many live, I'll forever love Horse racing, and if you watch any kind of sport, please remember that accident happen, things die, you'll even die someday!!!
Using a modern Thoroughbred to Steeplechase is ridiculous. The breeding for speed and stamina has bottlenecked the gene pool. Horses have been bred to highlight certain genes...while irradicating other necessary ones. case in point...Todays Thoroughbreds legs, just consider the width and depth between a horses Cannon bone and the Main Flexor Tendon. And the length from the bottom knee joint to the ankle (front) and the top of the Sesmoids (rear view) The diameter alone is enough to show anyone that these horses are bred down so fine and fast that they no longer have the sturdy leg to hold their own weight under fatigue and pressure. Let alone the elongated pastern with too much elasticity landing off a jump. It's a recipe for disaster. I get this is a tradition, honoring the time of the Steeplechase. But the horses that the Lords and Ladies were riding, from one church steeple to the next, crossing lands marked by walls, those horses legs were sturdy and ample. This is not the case with the Modern Thoroughbred Racehorse. Add in the fact that all the "Big Money" goes into the 3-year-old purses. A horse must race as a two-year-old (in many cases these babies knees haven't even closed) the wear and tear of this becomes evident when...if they survive...they are plagued by injuries that should never be. They need to make it not worth RUNNING 2-Year-Olds. Remember to run at TWO...they have been in training since they were yearlings. Worked with rider up at 18 months old...... WTF Anytime money is involved...Humanity flies out the window.... Sucks, but Truth!!!

Tragic. I great joy in my life has been watching horses run. They are beautiful alone or in groups. Perhaps these courses should be reevaluated for height of jump and distance of course. Something is wrong if that many injuries occur!
What is their point for doing this? Oh that's right, greed. All they care about is the money and not if their horse is injured. My horse is my child I get freaked out if he just gets a tiny scrape on him. I can never imagine doing that to him. Horses are supposed to be a life long friend not a disposable "partner".
Horses love to run. But throw them at high speed over obstacles is cruel. Accidents happen. Runners breakdown when running. Just like athletes. It happens. Let them run but not jump
Agree, horses specifically thoroughbreds are bred to run at high speeds, its in their blood. But it just simply isn't natural for a horse to jump, let alone at full gallop. A simple clip of the obstacle in a gallop has the potential to throw the entire horse off balance and send horse and rider crashing to the ground.
You wouldn't have all these horses breaking down and injuring themsleves if people would stop racing them before their bodies are fully developed. They race horses as young as 2, when their bodies dont mature until around 4-7 and their bones are nice and strong. They don't even give the horse a fighting chance.
Sad thing is that horses will, if at all possible continue to run even if they are seriously injured. They truly run their hearts out- humans just take advantage of that.
Imagine getting kicked in the shin. Now imagine running at full speed and hitting a fence on your shin after a miscalculated jump. That leg is shattered and 10 times worse then being kicked but expected to keep running full speed. Poor horses.
most that survive dont get to have a happy retirement. i have seen many starve to death, left injured, and die, and have saved some. millions are spent, then when theyve been run into the ground, they end up meat or worse.

I think the saddest thing is that these are BABY horses 2 or 3 or 4. Their bones are not completely formed. There's a reason why show jumpers are in their teens and even 20s.

I don't agree with things that horse racers do. But I am not against it. I am a show jumper so I am not here to be hypocritial because I know there are things about my sport people don't agree with so I am in no way saying they should stop. Racers have to spend endless hours with these horses, so regardless they form a bond, they are working as a team. You can be walking a horse and accidents can happen that are fatal. For example, bridleless "Bits kill horses" people can lose control and have no way to stop their horse and that can end in a fatal accident. Any equestrian sport has risks, jumping the horses can break their legs and fall, barrels they can fall in on themselves and tear a muscle, and racing you can fall. Thats how these sports work, there are risks involved but there are risks with walking across the road. Thats life

Just like with any athletic sport, humans or otherwise, injuries occur. The racing industry has come a long way from the past and most of the horses these days are drug tested. If they are found drugged in any way (steroids or others) then they are immediately disqualified and not allowed to race. All horses must be vetted the day of the race; before and after, to make sure nothing is wrong with them and to reduce injuries from occurring. There are also teams on standby in case a horse goes down, including equine veterinarians. The racing industry was a horrible thing in the past, but they are doing much better now. These lives were lost in a cruel way. I'm just glad that people are learning from their mistakes and much is being done to keep these accidents from happening again.

In am not a fan of steeplechase but most of the horse race owners, trainers, and jockeys I know put more thought into the breeding, nutrition, and over all care of there horses then most of the back yard breeders I know. It breaks there heart when something happens to them.
They didn't die...they were made to race till they die. Their injury didn't even bother the camera, it moved with those that continue to race as if the pain of those horses was nothing but a joke. Humans have gone way too far in abusing not just other species but their own as well. If the life on earth comes to an end. I wish when it starts all over again, nature never ever again result into the evolution of humans.

Thank God horses have humans to put them in constant peril. Horses weren't even aware they wanted to race until humans assured them they did. Crisis averted.
And we call ourselves "human" beings, we are far from human when we put these sweet, sensitive animals through this for our entertainment! I am ashamed for all those involved, the owners, the breeders, the patrons...disgusting beings.....they do not deserve the honour of being called humans !
Poor horses. Did you know that most of the horses who isn't fast enough, is just shot down? I'm against horseracing. The worst thing I can see is horseraces. I can't understand why this isn't called inhumane. If this is humane, we need to redefine "humane".

If left to their own devices horses will stay together in a family group, travel great distances every day and not let people get anywhere near them. What humans force them to do is harmful and unnatural.

My barn has a massive pasture with a small group of horses and they run every day just because they want to. When I’m riding and I pass another horse I can feel my horse speed up to get ahead of them because he wants to. Not just the physical and mental strains but the fact that all this industry cares about is money. Horses are out running to heaven to escape the hell of the track at just 2 years old. Many of them don't even make it to that point. There's just trying to survive. I don't see horses galloping in the fields neck and neck with each other for anything. Racing is awful, I could go on for hours talking about abuse. Even after the track (If they survive and even if they do most have so many problems) there put on farms and bred over and over till there disposed of because they no longer have a "use." Because apparently in the 21st century anything that doesn't profit someone is thrown away in the most painful way possible. Except for humans because if this rule of "use" applied to us we would all be shipped to slaughter to be shot and gutted and shocked. Any competing industry big or small that has to do with animals is all based on money and abusive. I really wish we had more racehorse owners and breeders who love their horses like family and want the best for them. And stop whipping the hell of the poor animal and let the reins a bit loose. I can some horses have their mouths yanked back and continuously whipped over and over again. Just let the horse run and do not beat it, I believe the horse falls and dies because they are in pain. Just like humans, they might forget what they are doing in the midst of the fire in their mouth from the bit being yanked back and cutting their lips and the scorching pain from their hindquarters from the crop.
Oh yes,if u think races r interesting but u can’t bear to watch this,go to Singapore.they make sure the horses don’t get over tired and over whipped so they hold checks every now and then.also after the horses retire they will have the horse sent to somewhere to enjoy their twilight years
Horse racing really isn't abusive. These horses love to run. If they didn't want to run they simply wouldn't. My mother and I raced horses until she went to jail for drug charges. They are always kept under great condition and always healthy. Hardly EVER underweight and fed healthy food. They get exercise which quite a lot of people who own horses don't get them their requirements which is sad. Not very often at all do horses get hurt but when they do, yes it is sad. But these animals were bred for this. Horses have evolved and are bred to RUN and for long distances too. It's not like these men and women mean for these horses to get hurt. Shit happens. I was simply walking my AQH down an easy trail we've been down about hundreads of times and he tripped and broke his foreleg in multiple places. I cried my eyes out but I knew it wasn't my fault. This goes for the same as horse racing. They do it all the time but shit happens. You all complain about how cruel it is because you only see the bad in things. Sure, there is abuse but in VERY RARE cases. Every horses I've ever raced along side was a happy, healthy horse. So shut your uneducated mouths.

Why in the hell do they race these horses and make them jump? What a horrible practice. I would never put a horse through that I think the owners and riders need to be put down with them. It's only fair. I love them just as much, without the jumping.
People defending "not all racers", yeah not all racehorses die on the track. But do you think running a 2-3 yr old at higher speeds than he'd ever go in the wild is humane? And keeping them locked in stalls until you want to gallop them in circles? "These horses love to run". Yeah because you lock them up so they have a boatload of excess energy.
