There is no way to tell you how huge they were in the 70’s. They were our Beatles, put their own blood in the ink of their kiss comic books, and scared every parent I knew

"Black Diamond" released back in 1974 in the earlier years of 'Kiss' is fire. 'Dressed to Kill' an album released the following year in 1975 is smokin' hot. "Rock Bottom", "Two Timer", "C'mon and Love Me", "She", "Ladies in Waiting", "Room Service" and "Rock and Roll All Nite" tracks from the album are all bangers. 💫🎭🎤🎸🥁⚡🔥☮🎧

"Detroit Rock City" has been the KISS concert opener since it was released in 1976 on the "Destroyer" album. This is a remixed version from the album, which had a guy getting his keys out and then starting his car at the beginning, and then crashing the car at the end. Based on a true story of a fan that was killed on the way to a show. Solo by Ace Frehley.

For sure they are infectious. When I was a small child… I saw them on lunch boxes and weird tie ins to cartoon TV, I’m not sure if they made Sesame Street. But as an adult I finally went back and listened to their songs and I gotta say, the hype was deserved. Also Gene Simmons was a hellova salesman. He was all business that guy.

Yup. Seen them three times with Ace, Peter, Paul, and Gene. Their shows are an experience and a literal performance. It's like being a kid at the circus. Fire breathing, fire coming out of guitars, Paul flying through the air, the drum kit rising into the air. Videos don't do it justice.

Saw them in person when I was 16, many moons ago. Their show was unbelievable. If you can find a video of their song ""God of Thunder" you'll get to see Gene Simmons ( the bassist" breathe fire and spit blood lol

Kiss were formed in NYC in 1973 by Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar/ vocals) and Gene Simmons (bass/ vocals)... they enlisted Peter Criss (drums) and Ace Frehley (lead guitar) and came up w/ the concept of wearing face paint in characters and costumes after seeing Alice Cooper live in concert... Their first 3 albums sold poorly between 1974/ '75 but their double live album 'Alive!' in 1975 sold platinum and gave them a huge hit single - 'Rock and roll all nite' (live version) Kiss returned in 1976 w/ the album 'Destroyer'... and the piano ballad 'Beth' (sung by Peter Criss) became an unexpected pop hit and made Kiss superstars by 1977... Kiss marketed their image and logo more than their actual music in the 70's. However, the band was fracturing by 1978 and the Kiss disco album 'Dynasty' in 1979 did not help, even after the disco single 'I was made for loving you' became an international hit... Drummer Peter Criss was out of the band by 1980, struggling w/ drug abuse... Lead guitarist Ace Frehley left in 1982, also struggling w/ drug and alcohol addictions... Kiss hired Eric Carr (drums) in 1980 and Vinnie Vincent (lead guitar) in 1982... but Kiss did so poorly on tour that the only option was to relaunch the band... In 1983, Kiss took off their makeup on MTV and announced their non-makeup era w/ the album 'Lick it up' and became a platinum sensation again in the 80's... Vinnie Vincent was fired in 1984... replaced briefly by lead guitarist Mark St. John... and then, Bruce Kulick (lead guitar) in '84... Kiss scored gold and platinum albums in the 80's. In 1991, tragedy struck Kiss after drummer Eric Carr was diagnosed w/ cancer and passed away in late 1991... He was replaced in 1992 by Eric Singer (drums) who appeared on the 1992 album 'Revenge' and 1996 'MTV Unplugged'. In 1996, Kiss reunited the original band for a tour in full makeup w/ Peter Criss and Ace Frehley rejoining... but the same issues came up while recording the 1998 Kiss album 'Psycho circus'... In 2000, Kiss announced their 'farewell tour' and parted ways w/ Peter Criss in 2001... Ace Frehley was out by 2002. Kiss began touring actively again in 2004 w/ Eric Singer (drums) and Tommy Thayer (lead guitar) assuming the makeup characters of Peter and Ace... They released 2 more albums - 'Sonic boom' (2009) and 'Monster' (2012) before they announced the end of Kiss' touring days in 2023 after their final tour.

The Hottest Band in the Land... in the 70's. They really did dominate rock music for many years, partly for their music, partly for their image and merchandise, mostly for their live shows. They are cliche' now, but that is because they set the cliche

Here's a link to a Kiss live performance of 'Detroit rock city' in 1999 w/ the original band - Paul Stanley (vocals/ rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (bass/ vocals), Ace Frehley (lead guitar) and Peter Criss (drums)... Both Criss and Frehley would also sing occasionally, but Paul & Gene were the man 2 vocalists: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RGQ2zaVSejg.html

Kiss has some genuinely good music. A lot of their problem is that they went SUPER hard on merchandising and marketing and especially in the late 80's and early 90's they transformed to be more about image than music. Their classics are still great rock, though.

Kiss was hard rock in the seventies. Maybe the glam metal moniker pertains to the eighties? I don't know. I paid less attention to them in the eighties than I did in the seventies. I typically point newbies to studio recordings for first listens with few exceptions. This is one of those exceptions -- "Black Diamond" off Kiss Alive! Followed up by their performance of the song on The Midnight Special. They left the audience stunned at the end of it. Black Diamond (Live/1975) · Kiss ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OMoxxjCRnbw.html Black Diamond - Kiss | The Midnight Special (July 11, 1975) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yy4opYZW1cQ.html PS. "You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover" is a humdinger of a song by Bo Diddley.

Rock on! BUTT the "difference" is .. watch ANY band before KISS and EVERY band after. KISS created the SHOW with kick ass music ! THEN it mostly became the SHOW.
