As a novelist, I find it very interesting that when any singer/songwriter puts out a track like this they get vilified. But when something like this takes place in a book no one questions it. It comes from the same place regardless of what your medium is. Love your reactions Knox, keep it up🖤🖤🖤

Interesting way to put it. I think it's because of how intense the song is being expressed where as in a book, the reader can see that the words are serious and intense as well but add a voice and it's very real

Fun fact, Eminem actually showed this track to Kim in a way to show her how much he cared about her and what she meant to him. Needless to say she wasn’t a fan. But pretty interesting that he made it to demonstrate his love for someone, yet it’s so dark. Powerful.

😅haha yeah in his book "Angry Blonde" he said he really wanted 2 pour his heart out but this is what came out. 😅He thought she should realize he took a whole song just about her so that should say something about how I feel but then he said he realizes now how dumb that was . 😅 it's kind of backwards bcuz the fact that he thinks it's a big deal he used a whole song on her kinda says how little he thought of her like songs are more important. 😮 also after reading his mom's book I think the song is a repressed memory of his dad when he was a baby.

But this track was one of the first that really made me understand that separation between real life and fiction (art, music, books, etc) on a deeper level. Just because something absolutely extreme in a particular emotion (violence, in this case), that doesn't mean the creator actually did it or ever would do it. Great breakdown, KH.

I heard this song and owned this album when it was first released. I think the reason he did so well was because his music was so shocking. He tells stories with his songs. Great analysys bro. Loved your reaction and breakdown of it. Y'know, when you go through something like this, and you've had these thoughts but didn't act on them, this song hits you in a whole different way. It honestly makes my grown 30yo ass cry, especially at the "I HATE YOU, I SWEAR TO GOD I HATE YOU...oh my god I love you..." part...I can't forget the moment I screamed those words myself pacing around alone in my apartment just in my own anguish. I think it's fine to think certain things and feel certain ways, as long as you can rationalize around them. Art is a method of release and catharsis, and that's all this song was, a glimpse into the deranged thoughts of a seething, hurting man, a window into the freaking insane levels anguish a broken heart can bring you to. Em's got a way with this shit not many other artists do.

I wonder if those type of songs are still be written now or if some artists censured themselves. Music (and other arts) are cathartic, they visualise thoughts without turning them into actions. Yeah it’s crazy dark and twisted, I’m not a fan of this song myself, but it’s Eminem…there’s no cancelling him 🤷🏼‍♀️ and like you said, it’s creativity with music. It’s an outlet…it saves people. and it’s funny how they wanted to cancel Eminem for this song because he’s committing murder on the track, but SZA released a song that everyone was singing all over TikTok and everyone was loving it: “… I might kill my ex, not the best idea. His new girlfriend's next, how'd I get here? I might kill my ex, I still love him though. Rather be in jail than alone”

It's def hypocritical but what I think makes that line different from this song or, well, basically any line in Kim is the fact that this song is so detailed, written to an extent you can actually *see* every step of a murder happening. You can almost smell the leaves in the forest and see the blood glistening in the moonlight lol. Add to that all the ad libs, sound effects and mostly, the extreme raw, pure emotion and him doing her voice with the high pitch, fear, etc. too. Let alone the fact that we all knew at the time this song came out their relationship irl was messed up as hell, she's his daughters mother etc. etc. It is really, really different from that one line you're quoting although I do get your point.
@Raspberry292

@@fifiroxy Yeah! No, the way you explained it, you are ABSOLUTELY right!!! Surface level, it’s hypocritical and similar in the fact that they are talking about wanting to murder someone, or having already murdered someone. Which in itself is fucked up. But, when you dive deeper and really listen, it’s exactly how you laid it out 👏🏼 it’s so dark and twisted and so completely fucked up!! I think Eminem has really grown since this song was released. I'm quite attached to this song... This was the first song at 11 that I would recite and was over heard by my father who then dragged me into the bathroom to have my mouth literally washed out with soap... that sucked, but then quickly became enjoyable because those were some of the biggest bubbles I ever blew lmao 😂🤣✌️

You know its going to be dark cos its Emininem lol. The backing music is in key of D minor which is the most creepy & disturbing key for music & has been really popular for horror movie soundtracks ever since The Exorcist. Listening to this it I see now why you draw comparisons btwn Eminem & Ren! Both artists really commit to vocally acting out & expressing each role in their songs & also fully understand how to fully take advantage the backing track & the emotional impact the sounds can have on the listener.

I had this on my computer thanks to those fun music stealing programs back in the early 2000s and my grandparents found it or caught me listening to this and I got in so much trouble lmaooo After my own daughters dad drove me through Nashville driving nuts and threatened to take us off the bridge and speeding up to the trucks in front of us like he's gonna smash into them, while I screamed and cried, the "I love you" and trying to placate them is terrifying and so real.

This song is one of the greatest displays of what I love about Em. Especially old Em. He paints such a vivid picture with his storytelling that with this song in particular sometimes I forget how good the rhyme schemes are because the story sucks you in. Like this song sounds literally like he's having a mental breakdown in the booth. And the way he wrote it I have a whole music video in my head of it. Even to the minute little details like "what the fucks this guys problem on the side of me!? FUCK YOU ASS HOLE! yeah BIT ME. Kim KIIIIM! Why don't you like me?" and there was never a song he did before or since where you feel his rage on such a visceral level screaming so fucking loud his voice cracks. Also I let my daughter hear it ( she's the same age I was when I first listened so ) And I wasn't there for it but she told me after work. Our initial reactions were the exact same "what the fuck did I just listen to"

“I don’t wonna go on living in this world without you” the emotion in which Em spits I can feel his raw pain in my own veins one of the only artists to repeatedly do that. His storytelling on this song is captivating & gut wrenching. Some people can’t tell the difference between fictional horrorcore & real life. It’s like therapy for anyone that’s been in an abusive relationship & can connect with Em, some think cause he’s a man he wasn’t a victim of DV when Kim’s admitted to abusing Em too. Its talent to write lyrics expressing deep hurt & still make a catchy hook to sing along with him.

This was the first time I took to this single. I know the history enough to have dodged this single for what now over 20 years. Sometimes, even when someone puts it out into the world.....feels like it is not my place to know about it. It is a powerful song, and insanely emotional. I am not certain there is a bad single on this album at all.
