Start one of those fundraisers to get back that 55k! 5% of your subs would need to give less than a dollar. Id be okay with getting back the gallery idea even if it’s not at that building and I’m sure a lot of people feel the same. Keep goin King! You have over a million people behind you!!
Do you have business insurance? if you are working under a legal entity with a business insurance policy they will pay for an attorney to represent you and help you get justice!
I am so $^&$&$&$^ angry for you! I would definitely sue the landlord! Sorry this happened but I am certain whatever comes next will be amazing and favourable for you and your ambitions!
I’m positive Joey may have a few dedicated fans who may be lawyers in his general area who may be more than willing to help if he ask for help as he did when he set up the gallery.
Get out of there Joey. Find another gallery. Sue the landlord for your losses. Hes clearly broken your contract and ruined all your hard work. And you will get it all again when that roof need replacing.
Sue for damages, lawyer fees, breached lease, and return of all funds + utility costs for during the "work" being done. Include personal damage, emotional and effort.
Joey I am so sorry, what happened to a simple handshake that meant a man’s word? I don’t see where are you going to win here get out recoup what you can. I’d say move to America but this country is fucked too.
Nice to see you here morphgod or his ilk lol yall are the best please keep saving animals from their uneducated keepers, an i love the fact you call out those channels down in Florida they all need arrested an charged with animal cruelty
As someone who works construction thus looks exactly like a construction site, you were definitely blindsided on this "2 week" job. Shame on the landlord
Yeah, Sheetrock is a dusty chaotic mess no matter how much you try and keep it clean. This seems pretty normal to me. He definitely got blindsided by the owner’s promising it would be done by X date though.
Yea I agree. With drywall especially the amount of dust and filth everywhere is 1000% normal and it dosnt matter how much drop sheet you have. But quoting that 2 weeks is kinda extreme
@@shawntame45 the dust isn’t the biggest issue, the way they had all their tools and supplies up against fixtures he built and payed for is beyond unprofessional. Sorry but a contractor is supposed to work around what is present, that means putting down drop cloths, containing the mess, and telling the people leasing if they should move things to make space for the work needing to be done. They should never have had their things anywhere near his stands and racks.
@@lunahyacinth6335 I don't disagree with you, but he seemed really stuck on the dust. That's the only part of this operation that is normal. The rest of it is super bad yes
Is it not normal to clean a little at the end of the day? Every time I"ve ever done drywall on any building we cleaned up with at least a quick vacuum over the room, never a full clean unless the job was fully done obviously but we didn't leave piles of dust everywhere.
I see why it was sitting for 4yrs, sorry to hear this joey, so sad. I was looking forward to coming and seeing it. All I can do now is hope for the best.
You did all the right things trying to startup your public aquarium however rule of thumb is never move in or pay rent until the landlord has finished its responsibilities and passed its inspections. Your video is a great example on how complex doing a startup. Your experience is now your knowledge. Learn from it and when you are ready for the next opportunity you will be more prepared to achieve your goals. Do not put blame on yourself. Even after this experience you are still the king of DIY. Take a break and reset..
Just diy a big ( realy big ) shed . Good insulation, heat pumps, solar cells . That will pax off in the future and with such high heating bills that will be in no time
All of that damage in your stuff should all be on the responsibility of the contractor they should have covered everything with plastic put up tarps and everything like that etc they should pay for a lot of those damages too don't think they were that nice
I think you fell in love with the space despite its fatal flaws. The fact that it had been on the market for so long should have told you enough. There is no way I would have paid rent on a building I could not use.
i make it a general rule to give myself time to get past the honeymoon period of seeing a property or asset that i like so that when it comes down to inspecting it i can be as thorough as humanly possible i've already dodged 3 bullets worth of bad housing leases due to terrible plumbing, crumbling cinderblock walls (
@@StarkRG if he wasn't paying rent, then wtf is he whining about? Typical Harry homeowners who know NOTHING about construction. They think things appear magically with no signs of the carpenter or his work. 🙄
@@TheJoshA He's still paying utilities for the building and rent for the storage unit for all the stuff that was supposed to be able to be stored there not to mention loss of possible income from having the place operational
Take this to court, honestly is the best thing you can do. You were given a faulty building that wasnt up to code, with little to no work done and still had to pay the bills. Given false promise, made illegal without know, told by the land lord it was fine. Seriously take action your doing yourself no favours by sitting on your hands with this one.
This was the comment I was hoping to see. It's an incredibly low blow from the landlord. And it would be easier to just walk away. But recovering losses would lighten the load a bit. And let's be honest. In the same way that others can learn with you, others can continue to see the process of recovering losses. And with hopes to learn even more. Keep your head up Joey and keep fighting for a brighter future! You bring so much light to the hobby and to the world.
That would be great if he could recover his losses , but because of the fact that technically it was illegal for him to be in the building , he might not be able to do that. I'm sure his lawyer will sue for losses if possible.
@@johnkoutsantonis6943 but the landlord who should’ve known the laws in the first place gave him the ok. Not saying two wrongs make a right but the landlord shouldn’t have been allowed to let him in being as it was/is the landlords property and misleading your occupant into believing he would be free to work inside said facility while it was/is unsafe is a good case
Ugh... This is a hard blow. I hope this opens bigger doors for the future because I can see the passion for the public aquarium. I am glad you left out the petty stuff bc I am already pretty peeved. Thank goodness you are a YTer and document everything with video. That is a saving grace for litigation. Can't wait to see some awesome progress with the home system. 💗💗💗
Joey, I work in the construction industry, and I see things like this more often than I'm proud to admit. I'm SO sorry this happened to you, but I think you're doing the right thing, given the unexpected and unacceptable situation. Keep your head up, and don't throw out your dream. Learn as much as you possibly can from this deal-gone-bad, and give it another go when you can.
Okay, I don't know about Canada, but most jurisdictions here in the states. the realtor/property management represents the landlord. They are only liable for misrepresentations THEY make.
Normally with a drop in ceiling using those types of tiles the insulation is sprayed onto the ceiling joists/rafters. I have done several of those ceilings, and even more minor repairs on them and I have NEVER seen rolled R-13 type insulation just stuffed up there. Insane...I'm glad you have documented everything so well.
Joey it’s heartbreaking that you’ve had to deal with this. They’ve screwed you over and it’s so unfair. Don’t stop dreaming about the public aquarium. I hope there’s a way you can recoup something atleast. I look forward to seeing what you do
Joey, we got your back and will support you all the way through. Even if it takes 2 or 3 more years to open that public aquarium. Thank you so much for all the knowledge you’ve taught us through this process. You didn’t have to make these videos, but you did and I thank you for it. Keep your head up!
Getting out of your contract was the easy part. Clearly there was a breach of contract. Sueing to recover your losses will be the hard part. I hope you prevail and are able to be compensated for your losses. Don't give up on your dreams. You are the king.
This, considering he had to pay for the utilities of a building he was told he could move into before he was legally allowed to even be in there, the lying, the extensions of deadlines, he really gave the landlord every chance he could give them, and this is how they treated him, it's no wonder it was left abandoned, building issues aside, if this was how the landlord treated someone whom they had a lease with. Just seriously, there's only so much good will to be given in a one sided relationship.
An empty building that’s been on the market for a long time should of send of bells, also signing a contract needs to be on condition that that firewall is done. If the the firewall doesn’t get done, then you can get out of the lease.
Man, it pains me to see this happening to you. Hope good things will come soon! May that landlord get a big fat punishment for not only breaching contract, but your dreams as well. I know it ain't much, but I will make sure to grab some merch and buy your book in order to help you a bit! Stay strong man and don't give up!
It’s his fault even the city told him he couldn’t be in there period and if you’ve ever seen something remodeled you would know this is normal the contractors didn’t know any of that stuff was his and most take that off the top of payment land lord was a clown and played him
Firstly, this landlord breached contract on multiple occasions. Second, I'm flabbergasted at the disaster area that this building is. Holy cow! Joey, you are strong and determined. We all love you, your family and your videos. I'm sending you prayers, love and good vibes. Time for a lawyer!
Defiantly got a landlord that over promised to get a tenant in there. Not sure I agree with the “disaster zone” or “building destroyed” comments. I was expecting to see all the walls and doors gutted and no stairs or ceiling. Looks to me like they can install the drywall in a day. Maybe 3 or 4 more days they can have it taped and muddled. Roll up the plastic and call in a cleaning crew on day 5. After that your left with the damages they caused to the tank stands (probably didn’t realize the value of the stands and assumed it was left by previous tendentious, or they’re just careless and rushing making mistakes. They should absolutely be held accountable for the damages which come to how much $? And yes, he was smart to keep his equipment out until the construction was done. And no he was not smart doing work in a building prior to paying the rent and being insured and having an occupancy permit.
Really sorry man. I can’t imagine how devastating this is. I am glad you decided to get out and I hope you can re-gain your losses through legal action. You’re a smart dude so you’ll get through this. Prayers for you.
I'm so unbelievably sorry you had to go through this. You did everything right, and I just feel for the heartbreak you've had. You're awesome and I can't wait for your rebound and what you bring next. We will all still be here!! You rock bro.
I feel so heartbroken for you. I am so sorry this all happened to you and your stands and everything. The work you've put in this is enormous. It is so extremly disrespectful to use your handmade (or any) stand as a working table. You deserve so much better! Just bought your book, I hope that will help out at least a little bit. Stay strong, man.
Don’t stress Joey. Sounds like you have a very strong case, and I am sure you will be compensated financially. As for the stress and disappointment, must be crushing. Keep up the passion. Another Aussie fan wishing you the best.
Hey bro' - not much to say that has not already been said. My heart aches for you but as a 70 year old guy who has seen ebbs and flows in his personal and professional life you will persevere, your are a survivor judging from whence you came. Your personal history speaks volumes - no words are needed. While you are in the thick of it I'm sure it could not look any darker - no advice to offer other than try and find a light and focus like a laser on that light. This is like dealing with a death in the family and the five stages of grief Kugler-Ross described. We call have your back my friend - stay strong if not for us than mostly for you and your family and loved ones. Peace.
Having watched you as I've grown up over the past 6 years at minimum, I wanna say thank you. I'm sure others agree that you have been a huge inspiration towards the aquarium hobby, but also a good example on being a good person.
It all really comes down to getting what you pay for, landlord likely hired the cheapest options, and the ones that they hired first were wise enough to realize they had been had, more work than they signed up for with the rate of pay they agreed on, which means the landlord likely had to really scrape the bottom of the barrel for someone to do the job at a rate they were willing to pay.
@@ToxicAudri yup. After the first 3 people bailed, I would demand to pick out the contractors myself, have a separate complete inspection especially on the celling, and have THAT assessment be what is used to hire the contractors I pick. There were soooooooo many red flags to not trust his landlord and the need to go over his head and force him to do the right thing or walk.
Being in Nova Scotia without insulation would have been a MMMMMASSIVE heat bill. That alone would be enough for me to back out nevermind the ceiling issue and everything else. Don't even feel bad or sweat it. Your doin the right thing.
Landlord made the mistake of messing with someone who is occupationally required to record every step of the process. I hope your lawyer ruins them, and more importantly I hope you get your money back and realize your dream elsewhere. Keep fighting the good fight 💪
Something like this would've absolutely destroyed someone and their dreams causing them to give up on it. But I'm so glad that it actually seemed to be driving you harder to achieving your dream, even though you had to take a slight detour. I can't wait to see what you have planned!
You inspire me. Not every leap of faith works out, you tried, you gave it everything you had and didn't fail, you where let down on so many levels, yet you're not giving up. A true champion.
This is why you always have an independent contractor inspect a property before you sign any lease...there was a reason why no one had been in the building for the last 4 years
Truly heartbreaking. I'm sorry Joey, but we are still here rocking with you on the next adventure! We are rooting for you and still supporting!!! We are ready for whatever!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
GOOD FOR YOU JOEY!!!! Thank you doing EVERYTHING you do for yourself and for all of us!! I know that was a super difficult call to make but it was the best one!!!!
Joey I feel for you and admire your positive view on things. I just saw this video after passing through sudden heart operation in the past months. And I found you posting this stressful history on the new gallery. Keep doin' what you love and fight this. You will overcome this, just like you have overcome difficulties in the past !! 💪🏼 Your the DIY hero that is about to become the DIY Warrior ✊🏼 Love your video's.. Be strong. Peace from the Netherlands!
Nothing would infuriate me more then when someone comes in to do a job and they completely disregard all of your stuff. Joey is so chill and would have worked with them but they took advantage and I hope he gets everything back plus some.
Keep up the positive attitude Joey. I’ve been your fan since day one. We’ve all seen your ups and downs. This is just one of those down moments that I know you’ll get out of. Looking forward to the gallery and because of you I’m still doing the fish hobby and getting such great results due to you sharing your knowledge with us over the years. Cheers!
This is heartbreaking to witness. Ive followed you for so long and watched you progress up to this, and to have them just come in and disrespect you like that is a shame. Prayers for you that things will work out in your favor.
I'm excited to see what is to come. You got me into the hobby and now I have 6 tanks totaling 207.5 gallons. Inhabitants ranging from neocardina shrimp to an electric blue acara. I am so sorry this happened as I know this place would have been magical and magnificent. You are such a bright mind in the hobby.
I'm sorry to hear about this ordeal that you're going through. This sounds like a very tough time. Keep the postivity going and like you said, take that inspiration you gained from this process and redirect it to revamping your home gallery. Your videos inspired me into this hobby a few years ago and I still watch your videos today. 💪Keep it up!
You can stand upon our shoulders and the Bad Karma the landlord has created will become self-evident and the waves are just beginning .... it will sink-in shortly in all of our brains, as not every one has seen this latest video --- but we care sooooooo much about you and every creature you have so lovingly cared for, Joey! How can we help you?
This is heartbreaking. Landlords are terrible! Good luck Joey, we're all here to help you and support you through this difficult time and I look forward to seeing your gallery moving forward.
Sorry Joey. Solving this legally will be satisfying, in the end! What a nightmare. The landlord is not very bright, because all of those conversations are on tape! Looks like you'll be editing your videos this winter! Go get 'em, Joey!
@The king of DIY, Looks like your intuition to not bring anything else into the building paid off! Now sue that guys pants off!! He KNOWS what shape that place is in, and the fortune it would take to pay the heating bills!! Holy crustacean! You're learning about the business of...business! And even as bad as it all is, you still came out on top! You cant get a huge damages award in addition to what you went thru mentally AND advised to go in illegally to be exposed to the dangerous dust!!! I can go on all day!!! Bless you, Joey! Sue their pants off, then contract out your own building!!!
Very sorry things turned out this way, but man am I rooting for you Joey. Your personal story of where you got to where you are today and how the hobby saved you is super inspiring to me and the work I do every day helping people turn their lives around from trauma and bad decisions. You're story is one of resilience & fortitude... the two things I tell the my clients' that they need to be successful. Rooting and praying for you for healing from this in always possible, and excited to see what comes next. Be well and stay safe!
Everything happens for a reason Joey. I believe that you deserve something bigger and better and this gallery was a test to see your dedication. Keep driving on and you're find the perfect place soon
I'm not sure how you were able to tell this story without bursting into tears. I would have been crying my eyes out that my dream was just crushed and to top it off the amount of money you lost. Prayers my friend. You will overcome this.
Joey, dude, I’m sorry it came down to this but the actions you took were the right ones. Keep your dream alive and if you can’t find a building that’s suitable for you, how about expanding the building you have already and do it the way you want it done! Wish you much luck and I’m following this project of yours. It’ll happen. 😁 keep your head up
I don’t comment a lot and I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your channel, but thank you so much for everything you do. You taught me how to build my first stand for my two baby turtles, and it’s still standing! I didn’t know I had it in me to build ,but you taught me! I’m so sorry this heartbreaking sh*t is happening to you. I will support you by purchasing your merch, even if it isn’t much! And you WILL get your aquarium one day, and I will be there to support you! Keep your head up and thank you again for all the knowledge you have given me.
Well done Joey walking away. I understand your pain and anguish but this video was amazing. Even my wife who hates Aquariums got caught up in it and wanted to kick the landlords ass. Keep up the great work
Man so Sorry to hear that, you had good intentions and it would have been a success.. hope you can financially recover and be able to one day make a new public aquarium ❤️
I was recommended your octopus unboxing video, watched all of those and then watched this one next. I'm heartbroken for you, and so invested in your stories. This is madness! I don't know how this pans out yet. But I'm glad to know in the future that you stayed true to your passion and I hope this mess works itself out and you are compensated! Much love. Stay positive
U really should take the landlord to court the building people where just doing there job but the landlord said all these things that never even Happened it’s not fair on u joey
@@randomstuff-p5m How can they believe that when it is filled with fish tank stands?? It's obvious that "someones" belongings are in there. The builders literally used the dudes fish tank stands to saw wood on, lol. Most legit building companies will clean up after every single day, not just leave so much dust on the floor that a black floor looks white.
Bro I'm halfway through the video just keep your head up man stay motivated put out these videos and hopefully the big man upstairs blesses you you might have to take them to court just stay calm and collective I know it's a hard thing to do with what you put in work in there but you need to
You deserve a big boost for everything you attempt, a big pat on the back followed by a group hug. I hope you can regroup and realize your public plan the way you want--with no setbacks.
By the way this is my plan that i will implement in another 2-3 years, hope it helps your current situation. * Buy a peace of land in the town outskirts. * Build an enclosures that will house all the tanks, you can start of with a single one and build multiple structures. * people will visit you if even its a 30-60 min drive from the city center.
Absolutely heartbreaking... and to just keep dealing with so much day after day and it just not getting better. I cannot imagine how despairing it felt. I know the right building will come along for you should you pursue it, and I know you'll look into the building and landlord when that does happen for sure. I cannot wait to see what gorgeous setups I will get to see in the coming videos :) Always here to support!
Sorry Joey, hang in there. Good things happen to good people... sometimes it just takes a while. I can not wait to see what you do with the energy. Also, did anyone else catch the Sunshine Pleco at 9:46 and 35:34?
I think you made the right choice, I am excited to see the gallery the way you want it done! Give it some time and keep saving and I'm sure you will find a place that is better than the last one, everything happens for a reason.
It could have gotten way worse, loosing fish from the ceiling falling or even one of your kids. Keep it up, you’re still the King of DIY. Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
I’m heartbroken too. That said, I’m excited for the Aquarium Gallery. Proud of you Joey, you have an unbreakable spirit. Keep in mind that when one door closes another door opens.....I’m here for all of it 🙂
-Joey, hope you see that More than one Good thing came of this... You are standing up for yourself. You are rolling with the punches, and making better decisions... still working on your Dreams! -You have support from your audience, yes, your Fans! You are still the King of DIY... and how cool... that it is about fishkeeping, not building houses or something. -Cheers, Man!! Love your show. Keep making the best of your life...it's worth watching and seeing what you can do. -You have done some great things, and showed us How... Thank you, Joey!!
so sorry this happened to you Joey! ive been following you for so long, and was super excited for your next step. im sure you will find a way to make your dreams come true!
Hey Joey, we got your back. I'm not sure what more I can do, but I think this is definitely the time for me to start buying your merch. I'm going to start off with your book and also get one for a friend.
Don't give up on this Joey. Take it as a learning experience and move forward. You have inspired so many around the world to start the hobby and take it to new levels. Thank you for the impact your videos have on so many.
When you work in multimillion dollar homes you make sure shit like this doesn’t happen. Good contractors bring that mentality to lower end jobs. Myself I would have been calling them slobs if I was on that job. I have no problem calling people or contractors out for being dirty
I followed you back before you hit 1 mill subs as first only aquarium channel to do it. So stoked to see the public aquarium!!!!! No matter what do it!!!
Is there no way to legally be compensated for the costs that has taken place. Such as running the place when you couldnt even make a profit? It just feels unfair.
Reminds me of the demo/renovation they were doing at my job while we were working. loud drilling and banging and white powder covering our desks and printers etc. A lot of our stuff got ruined and tossed. its like some of these workers are not concerned about collateral damage.
Renting commercial spaces is always a nightmare when dealing with the landlords. Better to buy space, if you can get over the hurdle of Canada's real estate bubble :(
Exactly he must have known going in that it was not going to be ready to go right away. Or the landlord really pulled the sheets over his head when he walked through the door and didn’t see the insulation falling out of the ceiling.
I was excited I was finally going to apply for a passport so I could see the gallery. I've been watching your videos since the beginning I absolutely nerd out learning about fish and reptiles and you have always supplied good information. I hope you have better luck moving forward.
