I always tape cardboard on the face frames before my granite guys show up. Then I hover over them and become a nit-picky little bitch. It's 100% necessary.
@5:09 That brought back memories of a guy in our Boyscout Troup, literally just got his Totenchip Card to use a knife, axe and hatchet and about 2 hours later, lobbed off his big toe while wearing flip flops and cutting firewood with an axe we had spent all weekend sharpening... Then @5:20, "Always have your proper safety equipment on, never take it off" Priceless!
I do like his common sense. I understand what's going on, I have been on several job sites that you had to shave before using a respirator. It's a safety mandate, like when I was made to be tied off but would have hit the ground before lanyard caught me.
I once was trying to give advice to my boss one time and he got pissed and said “dont try and school me” so from there i learned to keep my comments to myself because personally if i knew what i was doing and I had a guy just bothering me about things especially if they were learning from me, I definitely would get mad. Dont out shine the master. I mean we are looking at this guys videos trying to learn a thing or two. That’s probably why he gave those guys the bird 😂
Yo handyman. Just wanted to mention I switched over to using the 3M Accuspray HVLP gun. It’s completely modular and saves a TON of time on setup and cleanup. Great vids.
I would have painted the face frames with 1/4 microfiber roller in place Never remove the boxes for that. When done correctly it’s impossible to tell is sprayed or not.
Im working as a service tech for kitchen company and the rule is - all finished parts has to be wraped until countertop people are done. They can do a lot of damage to about to be done house in all kind of ways.
I was a nervous wreck watching them take that out the door. The damage to the cabinets was bad enough but I was fearful they would drop & drag and I could envision Handyman going all ninja on them for damaging those floors.
Watcher I agree. As a typical viewer, I gotta take a sneak peek at the comments section first to see if there’s any pertinent info I should looking out for because I’m usually doing other things while watching RU-vid. Well, the comments section was out of control. I watched the video and think...”uhh, this is the business, things always go wrong-did I miss something?!” Anyhow, the comments section was more cringeworthy than the video.
It actually does filter dust! "The research also reveals 19th Century stonemasons favoured growing beards and moustaches to try to filter the dust, instead of using the rudimentary respiratory equipment available at the time." Source: BBC
HM, I tell you I just finished a high end bathroom remodel and I've gotta say... Maybe it's not worth doing these larger jobs in the slow season. To many dependencies. I followed your lead and made all the cabinets for the remodel. Ah geez. Just too much work and I had a helper with the bathroom. I think maybe it would've been best to just do more work on the on season and plan on some other work in the Winter. What are you thinking about for next off season? Same thing?
Go to northern tool, get a KINDLING CRACKER XL ! This will make splitting wood and kindling a breeze. I split logs on this thing, with just a hammer, while drinking at camp. No worries about cutting off my fingers.
I take it you invoice the counter top company for your work to redo the cabinet faces. I'd still be pissed regardless but you seem to take it with ease.
The handyman I hired was more like them. Now I watch channels like yours to learn how to do stuff myself. Simple things dripping paint everywhere and on cabinets because they are too lazy to do it right.
Hey handyman , do you use a local shop to make your shirts & sweaters or do you order them online? If its online which company would you recommend. I've been wanting to order some shirts and outfits for my company.
I don't know about you, but I'm a coffee guy, heck, the entire shop is coffee guys and let me tell you. We do not run short on timmies cups, so what better for an infinite supply of mixing cups than me old coffee cup! Those mixing cups do look nice however.
Props to the crew for taking their time when lifting the piece and carrying it but pretty please don't use your backs so much. I hate that ya'll had to do this at all, but that one guy was bent over, you don't wanna be bent over when holding the heavy side, better to not pick it up at all. Make em come back out and move that shit if they screwed up, this is coming from an installer. May the war between countertop and cabinet installers end.
Hey Handyman, is your business being affected by the virus? Are you worried about entering other people’s homes for your safety and theirs? I ask because I too am a handyman and I actually still have some work coming in. It’s not much but I’m surprised I’m getting anything at all. I’m worried for my family if I continue working because every time I leave the house I put them at risk and every time I enter another persons home I put them at risk as well. I’m only an hour from New York and it’s gotten pretty bad over there. I’m sure it’s made it’s way to the place I call home. I don’t want to put other people at risk especially my family. I also don’t want to risk my livelihood by turning down work. You’re a smart man and an inspiration. I’ve watched you work and have learned many things doing so and I know you are living in the same world of chaos as everyone else but I would really like to know your opinion and how you feel about it. I appreciate you sharing. Stay safe Handyman.
Are you familiar with the 'Bent's Woodworking' youtube channel? Your new intro looks like his. Funny that once you changed your intro, his videos started popping up in my recomendations.
I hope the counter company paid you for your extra work. I've had nothing but bad experiences with 4 different companies so far. With 6 week lead time for countertops they need to stop hiring inexperienced workers.
Hey... where's the link to Polly? Couldn't find it in the description. hahaha, just messing around. Really enjoyed, "Check out my new tool! That is some serious, serious, chunk of steel." I do agree, that is some epic steel.
I have decided whenever I hire a contractor for my own home I put it in the contract that they can’t use subcontractors. I’m paying for their employees because I’ve verified their work not for them to hire some random person I could’ve done that myself.
Ecospider5 smart move! This contractor really screwed Handy royally. These guys had two strikes; if they had a good working relationship with HM why would they send this group. Major screw up.
