Vince gill started writing the song following the death of country music singer Keith Whitley in 1989. He did not finish the song until a few years later following the death of his older brother Bob of a heart attack in 1993. Typically played at funerals.... hits me in the gut every time i hear this song!
He wrote an additional verse last year. The lyrics to the new verse are as follows: "You're safely home in the arms of Jesus / Eternal life, my brother's found / The day will come I know I'll see him / In that sacred place, on that holy ground."
Vince Gill sings this song as a tribute to George Jones at his funeral. He struggled through the song but pulled through in the end to have a fitting goodbye to his friend “Possum”! Check it out to see this man pour his heart out in this song.
I can’t even listen to that song without crying my heart out. It was my father’s favorite. He had an incredible tenor voice and he’d sing it in church. Dad was a professional musician so in my view, no one could sing it better than he. I’m so happy to know that people are still enjoying this incredibly moving, uplifting song. ❤️
Easily my favorite version of this classic hymn. Also, the visuals in the video are stunning. It was filmed in the Austrian Alps when Home Free was touring Europe.
I have a hard time with this song, but wanted to hear Home Free do it. They did an amazing job, did Vince Gill proud and made me cry like a baby! Thanks guys for being so open to new things, as Home Free has a new fan because of you!!🥰😁
Oh, WOW!!!! I had never heard of Home Free. It is hard to believe they are singing without any instruments!!!! How absolutely amazing!! Love this song anyway, but this was just gorgeous!! Thank you!!
You need to react to Their cover of Boyz to men.....End of the Road.....that will end up being your favorite! You should also react to Vince Gill doing this song.... chills......
This song was written by Vince Gill about the loss of his brother. There are many recordings of him breaking down singing it. It's really touching. Home Free does a really great job with it and I like that they honored our Military. You do need tu watch the original I promise you'll get a whole different feeling.
I love watching you two. Definitely my favorite reactors. Ashley blows me away with her old soul. She is a special young lady. Keep doing what y'all do.
Home Free are unique in the way they pull at our heartstrings. They put their heart and soul into everything they do, that includes when they do funny.
I can't make it through this performance without tears. I keep thinking of a friend I met in my early twenties. I only knew him a few years, but he was the brother I never had. My wife and I became very close with him. Unfortunately he died very young in an accident. I still think of him often, and this song stirs up those memories and how much I miss my "brother!"
Amber You are doing GREAT at getting our boy Jay "cultured". Jay, she's a keeper for sure!! My dad recently passed away and all four of his kids got to pick a song for his memorial video. This was my pick! (I also made the video and my whole family loved it). I was repeatedly told by my dad's freinds that my dad would have loved what I did in the video, that really hit me.
Their ability to invoke emotions in their voices is unparalleled. This is my first hearing it also. I knew it was out but had not yet listened. Amazing. And your reactions matched mine.
Check out their latest”Travelin’ Soldier”....for humor, “Champagne Taste”, written by Tim....”I Can’t Outrun You”...”End of the Road”...”Blue Ain’t Your Color”...”When a Man Loves a Woman”....”Cover Me Up”...for more humor, “Butts Medley”
Hey Jay & Amber this song Go Rest High On that Mountain was written & done by Vince Gill, he wrote this song for his brother who died of a heart attack who was older in 1985
It was written by Vince Gill, about losing his brother, who's video you should also check out, also. The real story isn't about military. You think you were emotional on this one. Look up the live version by Vince Gill.
There are songs that will grab your heart, in a good way and a sad way. This is one of those songs, Home Free's version as well as Vince Gill's original, totally beautiful. Vince's version was played at my brother's funeral in 2007.
I tear up every time I hear this song. Vince Gill also has a beautiful voice. Reacting to Home Free and Pentatonix ( Home Fries and Pentaholics) will bring in a whole bunch of viewers ready to guide you through the maze. Pentatonix “Amazing Grace” will give you chills and Home Free cover “I Swear” will make you laugh. So many more…. Can’t wait to meet baby Luca!! Amber, you look beautiful; & y’al are going to be wonderful parents.
You both, along with Hone Free, made me burst into tears. I love you guys. I feel like were good friends. You both are so sweet to each other, and that's a blessing to witness.......
My father sang in a barber shop quartet. Four part harmony without instruments. A quartet sang at his funeral. He also adored Blue Grass music. He took us all to the International Fiddle Contest in Nashville Tennessee when I was a teenager. I love these groups. My memories are sweeping over me. Experiencing a capella with Daddy was so special. Thank you for this children. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
You know what, I really appreciate you two. The fact that you reacted as you did, is genuine. I hadn't heard or seen this song like this before, and it was really tough for me too. I have been in the Canadian Military going on for 20+ years, and like many others, I have had to bury more friends that I have served with than I thought I would ever have to. Both the ones that didn't make it home from the battlefield, and the ones who ended their own lives after they had been home, seemingly ok for years. I carry them with me, always. Thanks for having one of the most genuine channels out there, and keep doing what you are doing...
Great reaction guys, Amber your heart is on your sleeve girl. You need to see Vince Gill do this at George Jones funeral, it is so emotional it would bring a tear to a glass eye. We played this at my fathers funeral, it was the only song that was fitting.
As a father whose only child (who made it home) was in a war zone in 2004, this song melted me and brought back memories and tears. The video, the concept, the music
Great emotional reaction! This is a beautiful version of this song. Like you said so much talent in these 5 guys. You should really hear their version if "How Great Thou Art". Thank you for your emotional reaction to this beautiful song.
Love this song so much. I appreciate Home Free and commend their taste in music BUT Vince Gill wrote this song in memory of his brother and another great country artist and sings it with so much tangible emotion and has one of the sweetest voices in country music I feel it should be remembered and acknowledged. Vince Gill songs WHENEVER YOU COME AROUND WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME
How did i miss this one??? Ooh Vince ..... respect dear ... God Bless for such a beautiful written song ... tytyty Vince Gill !! Awesome cover of this song !!!!!
You have experienced the magic of Home Free: they can go from jaw-dropping to hilarious to touching your soul without skipping a beat. Wonderful, genuine reaction, you two. And welcome to the Home Fries! -Todd
Everyone needs to feel human emotions to remind us who we are. All just human. Got tears well up on this one. Thanks for reminding me to feel life too.
Stunning performance. Surprising how much Rob(the guy singing lead on this) sounds like Vince Gill. Vince did indeed start this for his close friend and Country singer Keith Whitley and couldn't finish it. Several years later when Vince's brother passed he was inspired to finish it and this is the ultimate result. An idea for something lighter for you! There is an old song from years ago by a group called Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs called "Little Red Riding Hood". Listen to the original then to a recent video from Tim Foust (the guy with the deep voice from Home Free) singing that song at his birthday celebration with his wife and a couple friends. Just search Tim Foust Little Red Riding Hood to find it. I would listen to the original first. It will make you appreciate Tim's version even more. Enjoy!!!
Y’all are the best reactors that I’ve come across! I almost always cry with the music you react to. Please continue with your musical journey! You have an attentive fan!
Jordan its unbelievable how far you've come from your very first reaction. Who would've thought. Anyhow this song I've never heard it before it were as if angels sang.... my eyes got wet ...whew
Vince Gill wrote this when his brother died. You should listen to his version, too. Another great a cappella group is Pentatonix (also known as PTX for short). Home Free and Pentatonix both appeared on different seasons of the show "The Sing Off" and each won their respective seasons. Since you are already familiar with "Imagine" by John Lennon, you should react to their version. I also highly recommend "Mary, Did You Know?".
I've been in the Army for 27 years and Retire in 90 days. I've been deployed 9 times. When you walk through the door and my loved ones jump into my arms, it is the most rewarding time ever.
Try “ Can’t stop the feeling “. You can’t help but dance when you hear it. “My Church” is a good one too “ Home Free has an extensive catalog but it’s a fun rabbit hole to go down.Note. Head phones are needed for a better Home free experience
Watching the video of Vince singing this song at the funeral of his dear friend country legend George Jones, and breaking down and having to finish with a guitar solo because he was too broken up to sing...just devastating. Nive reaction, guys!
I just today found your channel. It is 2 days after Veteran's Day. I had never heard this song, but I was crying my eyes out. Glad to know I was not alone. Thank you guys, for having such tender hearts. I love the way that your husband tried to comfort you with his touch, that was super sweet. Glad to know he was touched as well, and not afraid to admit it.
Three years ago this month, I lost wonderful friends on back to back to back weekends, and I dedicated this song to each of them. It has touched many lives.
When a Man Loves a Woman, would be a good one for Jordan to dedicate to Amber, Percy Sledge (original) Michael Bolton, pretty good version, and Home Free, which for me is the best version EVER.
Such a beautiful song. Home Free did it justice and I loved Tim inserting Amazing Grace in the middle of the song. The video really tugs at your heartstrings. Good reactions!!
