"I could pull the steering wheel" in the first verse is the thought that suicide would silence his thoughts. That line always struck me as the low point. After that he starts talking about peace over fear and faith over sleep.
This song hit me like a ton of bricks the first time I heard it. I had to pull my car over and re-listen and process for a while. It was like my mind put into song. It still gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up when I hear it. Lyrically and stylistically powerful. One of my all-time favorite songs.
I can’t believe that at this exact moment you would post this reaction and I would see it. Really rough night tonight here in Alaska for me. I’ve been dealing with the loss of my only brother to overdose. This has been one of my favorite songs ever since hearing it in 2015. And tonight I was battling such doom and despair about our existence and purpose in life. Thank you Rosalie!❤ I can fight another day 🎉
Yay!! Since I know how much you love the Ren rabbit hole, you will also love twenty one pilots! They don’t fit within a specific genre. Tyler writes music to work through his mental health struggles, but usually pairs it with an uplifting message and music. Their live shows are incredible! Tyler has said that the music is therapy and the concerts are a celebration. This song is still one of the highlights of their concerts. Tyler’s car radio was actually stolen when he was in college. So he was trapped in silence with his thoughts, which was a dangerous place to be. “I could pull the steering wheel” is a reference to suicidal thoughts. But in the second verse he encourages people to think, to live, and process your thoughts. At the core of TOP and Tyler’s writing is a desire to encourage people to think. I think you will really enjoy this rabbit hole! 🕳️ 🐇
@@rickyshaw4759 then don’t read it and move on. Since she is brand new to this artist she might appreciate some background. You don’t need to speak for her.
@@rickyshaw4759 this isn’t a competition. And as a Patreon member, I would think that you would want to be more welcoming to people engaging with Rosalie’s reactions. Nothing is forcing you to read other people’s comments 🤷♀️
I still consider this to be the best music video of all time. It’s crazy to me the crowd discipline. And that they got the fans involved. I always get the most goosebumps from this.
What a pick of an epic for your start on the road of reactions to T 0 P Enjoy as much as you possibly can for their discography...you won't be disappointed 😉
“Silence is the sleep that nourishes wisdom.” Francis Bacon. In my military career, I'm retired US Army, an exceedingly large part of my job was to wait in silence for the right time to act. I feel that one of the biggest things most people today are missing in their lives, in order to find peace and be happy, is silence.
I love this band! Did you know that 21 Pilots and Mutemath have toured together and even reimagined some 21 pilots songs together? You can find it on RU-vid as well, it’s called the Mutemath Sessions.
My daughter is a huge TOP fan. She would play their music in the car all the time, so I had no choice but to listen. This song really spoke to me, and became my first favorite TOP song. Music has always been my "escape" from stress and anxiety. Commuting to and from work thinking about my job, the kids, the traffic around me, my car radio was literally a Godsend. Here, obviously, Tyler is using the car radio as a metaphor/symbol as well. His music helps him -- the writing of it and the performing of it. I always think that the fans putting Tyler back on stage to perform in this video, was like the fans putting the car radio back, so Tyler can play for us.
I think that Migraine is a song you would really appreciate by them. The wordplay and the subject matter blend together to create something that will stick with me for the rest of my life.
The closest thing I can think of to T0P is Ren. Meaningful lyrics, genre bending music, massive talents who are connected to their fan bases at an uncanny level.
I ended up taking my daughter to a TØP concert when they came to our town and it was probably the most surprisingly profound musical experiences I have ever had... bringing me to tears at times. I believe Tyler Joseph is a lyrical genius and one of the most talented of our time. I wish he would go back to his gritty relatable writing. You need to review "Migraine" next!!
Jeez haven't heard this song in years.... immediately remembered all the words and started JAMMING out lol, such a great song. love how unique this band is, they don't sound like ANYONE else....
If you react to music AND psychology, Twenty One Pilots (never TOP) is a DEEP rabbit hole. I would do things like "Guns for Hands" and "Stressed Out" (their grammy winning single) before getting into the Trench trilogy (actually a quadrilogy if you include "Heavydirtysoul"). This band conforms to no genre, is always innovative, and honestly will increase your view count by a lot. There is a deep mythology starting with the album "Trench" and the band deals a lot with the concepts of mental illness, depression, anxiety, etc. But always good listens. Honestly, if you do a bunch of Twenty One Pilots reacts, I will sub
It’s interesting to see all the vloggers I have been watching that review(ed) Ren are now reviewing 21 pilots. I adore them and have all of their albums. What fantastic and different lyrics 21 pilots have let alone their amazing beats. I am loving people diving deep into artists who have fantastic lyrics.
It skipped hard in the second verse unless you skipped. "I ponder of something terrifying cuz this time theres no sound to hide behind, i find over the course of our human existence one thing consists of consistence is that we're all battling fear, oh dear, i dont know if we know why we're here, oh my too deep please stop thinking, i liked it better when my car had sound.
The car radio is a drug. As with every dependence, the car radio is also a replacement for something. It is a replacement for facing the problems of the world; a veil, a cover, a suppression. Without it, you gotta face yourself, the problems, the downs, and the feelings, which are not generated by your favorite music. But if you share your issue with everybody in a song, it can be a relief, it can be a triumph 🙂
Thanks for doing this reaction🙏🏻 Its my favorit song from them, and a listen to TOP almost every day!! So awsome to hear someone else talk about this song. I LOVE IT for everything that it is and everything about it!!!❤
I love the fact that they are willing to speak truly without swearing, and endorsing self depricating behavior. Mental illness is hard enogh to deal with. 😊 talent through solidarity ❤
Great reaction as always Rosalie! I think you’ll love twenty one pilots if you dive into their catalogue! I’ve been a tøp fan for years and as soon as I heard REN’s music last year, it really reminded me of tøp! Ren writes in a very similar way to Tyler, they both play numerous instruments, write and record their own music, produce it themselves, make their own beats etc. Then, when Ren brought out Animal Flow it cemented it in my mind - tøp have a whole storyline/concept of ‘lore’ behind their music, where Tyler has created a fictional world called DEMA with characters that represent different insecurities he has. He has his own alter ego called ‘Blurryface’ that represents this in himself and fans can go as deep with the lore as they want - or ignore it altogether lol! I love it, whereas my husband just doesn’t buy into it, but loves their music on a surface level. So, Tyler’s world of Dema draws heavily from George ORWELL’s novel, 1984 - then when Ren released Animal Flow and the video had quotes from another Orwell Book, Animal Farm, that was me convinced! So many parallels as artists! Also, both discuss similar themes, blend genres, are super creative and really care about their fans. You’ll see what I mean if you go down the tøp rabbit hole!!! A great suggestion for the channel would be ‘Holding on to You’ - I’d love to hear your take on it! ❤
Holding onto you, Guns for Hands, House of Gold, Can’t help Falling in Love (Elvis cover), Migraine, Ode to Sleep, Trees (live at fox theater), Heathens (big chance you’ve heard this one),Ride (big chance you’ve already heard this one), Stressed Out (and you’ve already heard this one haha), Tear in My Heart, Lane Boy, The Judge, Message Man, Chlorine, Heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, Levitate, My blood, The Hype, Morph, Neon Gravestones (amazing lyrics on this one). All are great songs to react to if you decide to go on a twenty one pilots journey. Also if the song has a music video, you should watch it, because you can learn a lot about their music and themselves from it.
I'd love to watch you react to their "Ode to Sleep". MANY different genre's in that one. But in actuality, I just think you'll really enjoy diving deeper into Twenty One Pilots. Very, very, very talented humans.
Great reaction video! If you like psychology and awesome music, might I suggest a band called 'Icon for Hire'? It's a criminally underrated band. It's my favorite band all genres considered. It's got rap, it's got piano, it's got screams, it's got electro, it's got pop, extremely tight editing, and on top of that it's got amazingly meaningful lyrics. Brittle, Under the Knife (and their acoustic version is so poignant), Curse or Cure and Hollow could be good introductions to their music. Their genre is extremely diverse and it's best to listen to many songs to get the whole experience.
this song is so well written and the video matches up perfectly - it can hit everyone differently - he used a real life moment that made him think deeper about what the car radio actually meant to him - it was a way to distract himself from what's really going on - so everyone has a different "car radio" - it can be music, movies, working out, reading, etc - whatever distracts you from what's going on - but if you were all of a sudden not able to workout, could you deal with what's going on? the music video sort of provides a distraction as well - when he has the mask on and everyone is going crazy, you forget about what the song is really about because so much is going on - then at the end, he takes off the mask (his hair is back) and he's back to the same nervous/anxious person from the beginning. you've probably heard Stressed Out, Ride, and Heathens by them - i'd say to try Lane Boy or Migraine
That mixing of different genres and styles is one of the big hallmarks of TOP's music. Tyler's ability to do it live is demonstrated on the live set he did for Audacy Music (search for Tyler Joseph stripped down) and you see a set he did where he does covers of some popular TOP songs live, remixing them live. It's....crazy to watch. Too much talent! I probably circles back to it once a month and watch it again. It just speaks to me.
First time hearing/seeing TOP. The performance art aspect of the video reminded me heavily of Maynard James Keenan of TOOL….especially the song Sober. And yes, reminds me of REN and NF. Deep stuff
Awesome analysis, new sub for more TOP. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on all their music. They don't disappoint, it's all so poignant because they have layers upon layers!! |-/ 💛
Desperation to hope. This song saves lives. It tells me not to suffer in silence (what I was raised to do). Every time I hear/see this I know I needed it.
A lot of ANGST in this song "a feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one about the human condition or the state of the world in general."
3 artists that are my favorite to see reactions to, Ren, 21 pilots, and avenged sevenfold. 21 pilots song Trees live at fox theatre is the best musical experience of my life
Ive been listening to 21 pilots since they came out and they are way better than NF and all this new artist they did soany different kinds of songs but all of their lyrics are meaningful.
It's the song of a break up. Cheating from someone that gave you life with someone that you've known so long that you can't fathom doing something real about it
Lady you are about to enter in to a hole new world hahaha and i'm in it, i recommend ode to sleep next song, but to be honest they don't have any bad songs
Oh you have such a wonderful and plentiful journey ahead of you with ToP. They've been my favorite band for more than a decade, and having come across you channel via Ren reactions, I know their music is right up your alley. Enjoy the journey and thanks for all you do!!
Love these guys. My favourites are Heavy Dirty Soul, Heathens, Ride, and Stressed out. I am mostly an Alt-Rock/ Hard Rock fan. One of my favourite bands is City and Colour (Dallas Green from Alexis on Fire).
Awesome!!! Twenty One Pilots is amazing, you are going to love the Journey. React to the title track of the same album--Migraine--you won't be disappointed.
One of the things I love about TØP is how they can tie something everyday, like a stolen car radio, with deep thoughts and a very accessible beat. This is my favorite of theirs, though "Heathens" and "Lane Boy" closely follow. And I LOVE Ren, just stumbled across you, so I'll check out your reactions to his work. Thank you for the reaction!
