The only factor worth discussing with modern hardware is the noise floor. Frequency response, distortion, timing accuracy are all so good now to be irrelevant in comparison.
Latency! Because I use e-drums to fire Addictive drums in my DAW and can't stand any notible latency. The same goes for electric guitars. That's why I chose the Quantum 2626 from Presonus which has a return latency in the order of 1.5 ms. It also has 8 inputs with an additional 16 using ADAT. Don't need that many inputs now, but who knows when I get a band in my studio, or if I start playing in a band again myself. Other aspects are pretty much average to good for the price range. The only thing people might not like is that the software mixer is very limited. The idea is that you do it all directly from your DAW (which I think works fine). Oh the price is very decent. I saw them on offer on Amazon for about 600 euro's. The only thing that pisses me off is that there is no such thing as customer service from Presonus. Things didn't work well at first and I never got a reply to my questions. I had to work it out for myself. Also, the promised software that goes with the package only works in Presonus Studio one DAW (I use Reaper). Again: bad customer service. By the way: great performance of this classic!
Love my iD44. Looks like there’s two better solutions now, though with the markII and evo16. Love this company. So much value for the price. Pres are transparent and convertors are best in its price range (and even some above)
Love the acoustic performance they show the true quality of these unit. I can hear the true pure transient and touch of anolog warmth audient promises. I love your reviews warren i love these songs too i love the last song "am on fire" too man these music are great
Very nice specs! THD sounds a substantially better on paper, but I love the mki, had it about 3 years now and I can't think of anything that I dislike about it. I'm really just still waiting for a profesional, 8 channel interface with dual Adat inputs. Please Audient, if you're reading. iD88 has got to be a thing, so we can record more than 12 tracks at 96k!
This sounds fantastic, will have the track the whole day in my head now - such a soulful performance! The new features seem to be very helpful and the new stylish look is a nice extra.
Lots of your viewers have Audient products, I should say so, I started with an iD22, then expanded it with an ASP880, then got an iD44 in order to be able to buy a second ASP880, because the iD44 has two optical inputs to give me 20 tracks at once capability. As far as service is concerned, I've had two reasons to get one of the ASP880s repaired, but Audient did it both times, replacing the first one, before I'd even returned it. Then the second time, they did the repair, without question. Everything has been fine since, and I've still got all four devices. I don't think I should enter this giveaway
Send a copy of the Audient ID44 mkii and EVO16 to Julian Krause too to review. He has a RU-vid channel with lots of followers and a thorough scientific analysis of audio interface. It will give these gears more credibility with end users. It's better than doing give aways
First of all, what a beautiful treatment of this song! The vocals are soulful and amazing, and the guitar and drum performances are perfect--really nice job (as usual)! As for the ID44 MKII, wow, they just keep making great gear better! I just recently got the ID14 MKII, and have loved using it so far. I spent the first hour I owned it just listening to The Beatles through the headphone amp. I really like how flexible routing with the software mixer is, too, and that ID button is like a secret weapon--using it as a scroll wheel, I like to mouse over plugin knobs, and then close my eyes and just listen while turning the encoder. Audient is absolutely crushing it!
Just watched the Audient premiere on this device. Great unit, as all the rest of their products. Just wanted to mention that BOZ Bark of dog is a FREE plugin, wich maks it even more great.
Nice. I brought an iD14 Mkii a fortnight ago to replace an evo4 which is now with my laptop to record outdoor foley. Julian moans about the headphone impedance, but for 250-ohm cans it's great. No need for an extra amp.
I just have to say, I think this is one of the best, most vibey performances you've ever done in one of these demo tracks. Huge props to Katie and Blair (and you of course) for a very very cool groove!
agreed....to put it politely I never cared for this song in the original form....but wow that vocal was beautiful and chill inducing along w the instruments pickup towards the end....
Really nice version! Sounded so good. I got to do a demo of the MkI. The HP had more volume and clarity than my Apollo. That alone almost made me switch. Plus inserts! Super tempted.
That's exactly what most people with id44's are waiting for. They need to fill that gap in the market to compete with UAD APOLLO 8, etc. Started with iD22, then iD44, then asp880, now I'll just wait for an 8 channel interface, because you can't have more than 12 inputs at 96kHz, which is a deal breaker for me if I have to think about adding another 8 channel mic pre via Adat.
Dang. I just bought the older ID44 a month ago. Something told me to hold off, but I figured I would have heard something about Audient coming out with the upgraded version. I could have easily waited 3 weeks to get the upgraded version or at least not pay full price for the older unit. Im super bummed to hear that one of the upgrades was the A/D converters. Buyers remorse I guess.
👍🏻 it‘s too late for me, as I purchased the Antelope a few weeks ago. Do you think the preamps and AD/DA converters of the iD44 mall are as good as those of the high priced interfaces (like Antelope, UAD, …)?
WOW! Great job. I love the arrangement and it sounds really good. Two headphones output , good converters and good instrument inputs are important for me.
Have the id44 gen1 in silver. Love it. However, the drivers for my RME Babyface Pro FS and TotalMix have me usually using it on my primary tracking PC. They sound remarkably close though, so amazing value from Audient!
I love my mkii Audient, the USB-C interface along with a good driver (the most important thing) has really improved the low latency performance from the mk1. And the pres are known for their transparency and quality. Very happy 🙂
Hi, a question, I want to buy a new interface, which is better? The Apollo twin USB, or, the audient id44 MK2? For you, which sounds better? Please help me.
I love this song so much..and your take is awesome! I'm looking for a smaller interface for most of day to day recording/mixing. I use a soundcraft ui24 (24input for bigger stuff- our band recording live) cause that's how we track. A smaller pack for the day to day work and mix took me to this video. thanks for the song and the job you guys do for all of us.
I really wish companies would stop adding single or double setting hpf. It's a fake feature. You'll use them sooooooo rarely that you forget what it is even set at so then you just never use it. And I mean...100Hz? Is it really that hard to make an adjustable hpf? That's a feature. I'd use it every day if I could do that. I love the iD44 and this looks great. I still hate the headphone jacks on the front but I understand why some would prefer it. nice video..as always. Thank you
In a double blind test I consistently prefer roundtrip of audient vs dedicated rme and cranesong top converters. Its crazy. And I have good listening and a treated room
Hi Warren, First of all i think every musician starting or otherwise should listen to your 10 things about music production no one tells you video. It is so real, down to earth and, just great great knowledge/wisdom sharing. I'm getting back into music production. On the other hand music is my life, my life is music. Thank you for your videos and time.
Hi, Warren, I have MK I and so jealous especially about 2 headphones outs. Although loopback probably also could be nice. BTW I am surprised you are using many languages to say good bye but never saying 'Do widzenia'. Didn't Mrs Kasia share any words with you? ;)
Thanks for making nice reviews like this but I think it could be a much better review if you could record the vocal part with an inexpensive mic under 500$ not with this 3500$ Lewitt 1040 ! at least an affordable LCT440 pure!
Thanks for the review! Aside from the more obvious S/N and Mic pre gain and transparency quality, some big things I look for in an interface are connectivity and expandability options (multiple ADAT and midi ports, channel Inserts, multiple Hi-Z switches, Headphone mixes managed on the interface, multichannel analog outputs for different speaker configs, etc.), and well developed drivers that easily work on all DAWs and current operating systems.
Awesome demo. Thank you. I've been following audient product range for last few years, I think this could finally be the one to replace my steinberg ur28m. Sounds great and very versatile connections for live recording home studios.
This really just shows that you dont need a million dollar setup to create a very nice song. Good recording technique, performance and arrangements wil get you much further.
iD44 this is my favorite audio card now. I watched the video and fell in love with this audio interface. I don't want anything more than this audio interface now. It's so beautiful and amazing that I don't have the opportunity to express my love for this audio interface. Unless you buy it and record a great song. Same as in the video. Or maybe better. No, it's probably better not. Because we in Russia say "the best is the enemy of the good."
Beautifully recorded. May I ask you Warren how did you tracked acoustic guitar, because I see one mic and hear nice and wilde stereo? Was it plugin like let's say Waves Doubler or recording technique? Can you lift the veil of secrecy?
@@Producelikeapro thx a lot! I am still learning from your channel and appreciate your useful tips. Gear is one thing, everybody can buy it but knowledge and experience are priceless. Having said that I swear I would not got to such a nice sounding guitars even using ten times pricier mics and pres;)
Oh man, I recently got my MK1 of the iD44... I thought "Should I wait since there's probably an update on the horizon? Nah, this is as good as it gets for a long time, probably a reason why they only updated the entry interfaces." ...🤡
Love this song so much! Good choice. Id44 mkii is the next piece of gear I’m buying. Wish they made an id88! 8ch with 2 ADAT capability. It’s that good imo. I love my id44, now I want the new one! Great review!
The Audient gear is brilliant and ahl say it again...Audient punches way above its weight in it's price range. Got myself a secondhand EVO 4 recently and it's crazy cheap for the quality. Great stuff. Cheers
Just finished listening to Julian Krause’s rundown on the interface, and I saw you in the comments! Everyone was talking about the track you made with the interface, so I came by to check it out! The track is awesome! If you don’t mind me saying… that banana shaker added quite a bit of mojo! 😁 Just kidding. Great musicianship all the way around!
Kudos! Another great video! Noticed this, very cool of you to respond to comments as much as you do. I have v-1 works fine for me! I've made and released songs with it. the Production would not compare to yours though Warren but it's more the difference in the know how than the interface, at least in this case. Peace!
@@Producelikeapro thank u Sir, I saw the Demo you made whit it and they sound amazing, a real record even though they are raw,,,, How is your experience whit headphones preamp and latency for tracking vocals?
I've been doing allot of research on a new interface (UA, SSL, Audient, Antelope). Sadly my firewire units are glorified paper weights, RIP Presonus and M-Audio firewire support. :( You're reviews are simply awesome, I appreciate the level of detail, the shout outs to other RU-vidrs making a difference like Julien Krause and the range of products that you cover. The anecdote about Audient helping your Greek contest winner, may have tipped the scales for me. Makes me want to support companies like Audient. I'm new to your channel, working my way through your videos, thank you for all the hard work. BTW who's the Canadian artist with the platinum? Gold? record on your wall?
Im waiting for my Audient EVO 16 to arrive any day. That story of them delivering a unit to Greece makes me even more proud to be a first time Audient buyer.
I really love these demo/reviews, I've been very impressed with this and the Audient Evo review, the sound is fantastic and I think these mixes that aren't; overly processed really let the performances shine, everything sounds great, the acoustic guitar and vocals sound excellent!
Beautiful mix mr. Warren! It sounds very pleasant! I'm thinking. I have an Apollo Twin and need more inputs for recordings and experiments. Is the iD44 mkII good enough to compete with the Apollo? Otherwise I have I have tube pre with great sound ... maybe it's the quality of AD conversion iD44? I don't know. I can also get an RME AD/DA for cheap ... there are so many great things around, it's very, very hard to decide! : )))
Awesome video, thank you so much! I have been searching for info regarding sound quality of the id44 mkii preamps versus the Evo 16 pre's. I need an interface with 8 pre's pretty soon, for my recording studio; so for me it's either the Audient Evo 16 or wait for an "id88" Is there a perceptible difference in sound quality between the Evo and the mkii?
No, frankly I’m more than happy with the Evo 16! I’m very impressed with the pres. It seems the more expensive units have a-lot more features, which if you don’t need then simply get the Evo 16
@@Producelikeapro Thank you Warren. Both units launching this year, i wonder why the id44mkii with half the number of mic pre's costs $200 more than the Evo16! Must be the quality of the pre's and components from a tech standpoint. But if there's hardly a perceptible real world difference between the sound quality of the two then the choice might be a no-brainer, unless you need those desktop features of the 44 which i know many people do.
