I watch almost every Band-Maid reactor at least once, and I just wanted to say that you’re one of my favorites. Something like 95% of them are just like, run through the song, make some faces, say nothing more insightful than “Wow, a bass solo,” and then ask for subs/likes/donations. It’s clear from watching you that you’re turning things over in your head, trying to figure out how the puzzle works, being actually thoughtful and appreciative of the craft of their writing. As strong as they are technically, it’s their writing and creativity that makes them really special. What you said about Misa, you could say about Akane’s drumming, or Miku’s use of vocals and ad libs. I know other channels that do stuff like spend hundreds of dollars on fancy microphones and cameras and whatnot, when what really makes the difference is being thoughtful. I’d take your low budget videos any day over someone else’s who has a huge expensive setup that doesn’t have anything interesting to say.
Oh man, I've been anticipating this video since you told us it was coming. Watching musicians try to take Giovanni in for the first time is always a treat (and seeing your eyebrows shoot up when Kamani started shredding on the first chorus made the wait worth it, LOL). Strong contender for their most progressive song, and probably one of their most densely-arranged songs too. Another reactor, Ryan Mear, had a bit of a monologue on stream once. The video was unfortunately taken down, so I have to paraphrase from memory, but the gist of it was something like "we know that Band-Maid is great, I give them tons of respect, but then I listen to all these other great bands - and I think, am I hyping up Band-Maid too much? And then I hear them again and they're better than everyone else. They're better than EVERYONE else." Not that I need you or anyone else to agree with this, of course - _de gustibus_ and all that - but that encapsulates my feelings pretty well.
The best quote after 'GIOVANNI'. 'It's just over and I have to go and live my life now'. That sums up pretty much how I feel when any track ends from this band. Really entertaining reactions and review as always. Oh and during the Bass and Guitar battle during HATE. My ears always concentrate on the drums. Superb foundation and backing from Akane. Saiki as a singer and front person from the band has grown so much over the years. Confidence and work has done wonders for her.
MISA has made a great contribution to improving the presence and possibilities of bassists in rock bands. I think more people will aspire to become bassists after seeing her.
The instrumental version of Giovanni puts the emphasis on mental as Kanami is just shredding through 90% of this song. It is just crazy what is wrapped into this very proggy piece of music.
The videos on "Instrumental Maid" channel are really interesting since you can see more of what's going on under the vocals on songs like Giovanni. Worth checking out.
MISA want's to plat her bass in such a way that when people think about bass in music they think about her. I think she has achieved this already. She loves to play in front of us but prefers for her music to do the talking.
I think so too. I've watched her play enough to the point where I can see what she is playing just by listening. If that makes sense. Well...ok I see it some of the time ^_^
The tears of joy thing is something I experience often with these ladies, even after five years. Still can't watch the new Endless Story official live without shedding a few.
This great. I’m not a musician, but I’ve been listening to hard rock near 60 years. I know Misa is different and great. But not why. This is what somebody like me needed. Tell me why she’s so great. Now I have better perspective. THANK YOU.
Try and find Giovanni instrumental version, there's a white room video about. It's easier to get a better appreciation of what's going on imo ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JNWYDbmlf1M.html
Thank you for reacting BAND-MAID again. If you went to the instrumental maid channel to watch giovanni, why don't you watch the giovanni instrumental version? kanami, who loves Saiki, never stands in front of Saiki while she sings, so you should check out the white room edition to see how the guitar is played😄
great job Mota I really enjoyed your 3 part series. you should look for the Giovanni white room instrumental, it's awesome. I'm sure Cluppo would love your reaction also. I always look forward to your Band Maid reactions. cheers
My theory is that they are actually a string ensemble hiding in plain sight as a rock band. Their songs say rock, but their arrangements say strings. Giovanni is the main character of a Japanese animated film from the 1930’s. Can’t remember the film title at the moment. Inspiration for the song at any rate.
Thank you YM-san for reacting to one of my favorite BM song Giovanni. I loved the expression on your face while listening to it and hearing your thoughts on these songs. Please know that I enjoy your content the ways it is, i.e. insightful and well thought out impressions of the music. Please keep up the good work!
It was Converge at Sonic Temple last year. They had a fraction of the people Band-Maid did. We walked over to see Dorothy immediately afterwards. Totally different vibe. Normally, i would have enjoyed it.I have listened to Dorothy later on .Good stuff, just not after Band-Maid's insane positive energy.
Brilliant reaction mate👍 ,enjoyed your thoughts and insights as a musician and I can tell it’s a genuine appreciation ,if I could recommend a song then matchless gum is well worth listening to ,it’s a hidden gem
Hello from Japan. Thank you for introducing me to the wonders of BAND-MAID. Have you had any difficulties in your personal life? In the video you seemed to be suffering from something. In the video, the band members are enjoying their performance, which makes the audience feel happy. As you said, I hope to see you enjoying listening to and playing your favorite music. If you are having a hard time, don't worry alone, talk to your bestie. I am using a translation tool, so the text may sound strange, but I wish you the best of luck.
Haha...Mind-Melting playlist 😁👍 The Maids did what I wanted Rush to do...they released an instrumental version of their most hectic album 'Unseen World' (I renamed it Unheard World when I ripped the CD 😉)
I love watching the reaction videos but I'm even happier knowing I've bought all these things and can listen to them at home any time I want. Best rock band on the planet. I llsten to them every day.
Thanks for the reaction. These ladies never cease to amaze their audience. Blooming, Giovanni, and Hate? are all distinctive and different and yet familiar in that they have Band-Maid's unique signature sound written all over it.
Enjoyed your reaction and thoughts. I have seen Band Maid 4 times and it is impossible not to watch Saiki. If you like Giovanni, then you would really enjoy Black Hole I think. Off the same album. There is an official live video.
F Chopper Koga will pop and slam you until your face actually hurts - MISA is the mistress of melodic, yet unpredictable and imaginative bass lines. With the chops to actually play them. Yep, they're both great - although I'm very maid biased so MISA MISA MISA!!!!
Good ramble Mota! Two notes, not a critique. Dig and you will find that all-female Japanese rock bands have existed for forty years (eg Show-Ya), though the last decade or so has been a golden era. Second, not just Japan! Emerging rock from Indonesia (Voice of Baceprot) and Korea (Rolling Quartz) to name a couple. Band Maid my favourite but a lot to love about these other bands. It pays to keep your eyes and ears open to a World of music.
