I like how they lean into the technical progressive stuff, without going too overboard, just as u described i think they balance well their agression on the insturments with soft vocal melodies and they also introduce easier to follow chorus, while still changing tweaking them and keeping it interesting. While a lot of their older stuff is my favourite, i think they are getting really good at finding that balance with every new release. As many people mentioned, Misaki was initially a guitar playing thats why u will find a lot of picking techniques and guitarist mannerisms in her playing.

@BurnTheNotice 4 дня назад
Right to 11, you say? Not in these two songs ;) But I know what you mean, so yah, not wrong. Misaki was initially a guitar player and responded to Juko seeking a bassist. I don't know how proficient she was with bass at that time, but from the interview, it sounded like she didn't play it at all until then. Now she barely knows how to play guitar anymore lol. They had a few position-switch videos, where Juko played drums and Misaki guitar.

Regarding Misaki's playing, I believe she got her thumb-tapping technique from Shunsuke Matsumoto from Cö Shu Nie, who is a very unique and remarkable bassist: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ksAJIsl047w.html And note that Misaki is actually a guitarist (she started playing bass just to join Sokoninaru), hence her very "guitarry" style. (I think she has the most badarse bass tone since Hooky.) Regarding the vocal melodies: their songs basically have a core of a melodic J-rock song with layers upon layers of detail added to the instrumentation... so the vocal melody floats over all the chaos and keeps things together (and makes the music more accessible). BTW, note that all the music is written by Juko, yet the arrangements are very well-balanced between the three instruments. And yes, the production is excellent, as are the music videos. Truly top notch. Also, note that Zettaiteki Sanpunkan has a beat going on the hi-hats throughout, so at the end, when the double-bass kicks in, Shiyu uses his left hand to open and close the hi-hats and keep the beat going (since his feet are busy with the bass pedals). You can see it in the live video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KxVn7ubo4FQ.html

@@YoMotain one of their part switch videos where they swap instruments, there is a moment when Juko teaches Misaki the guitar tapping part and she mimics his movements and he laughs immediately because she is using her thumb, like even he wasn't ready for it. I always remember that when seeing her tap.
@greggerypeccary
@greggerypeccary 3 дня назад
@@YoMota Yes, "wild" is the only way to describe his playing style... these days he wears a glove on his left hand while playing, probably due to his fondness for sliding his fingers up and down the strings: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vy56AEu-WVM.html

My favorite three piece band. They very talented, and if you interested, there are a live performance of two song you react here. For me the bassist, Misaki, is the Japanese most talented female bassist. Top of that all three of them singing and do harmony. React more of them, whatever song you choose is gonna be delightful

If you enjoy Sokoninaru, you might enjoy Ling Tosite Sigure, since covering their songs is how the band started out. "Abnormalize" or "Telecastic Fake Show" are good songs to start with probably? Sokoninaru have definitely found their own sound a long time ago though! If you want more bass tapping, check out the Taiwanese band Elephant Gym. Any live performance of "Finger" is excellent, and their live performance of "Spring Rain" on their channel is a personal favourite. "Witches" is a newer song with arguably even more impressive bass though. They're also touring the US later this year iirc.

I was halfway through typing that they do have playthrough and commentary videos, when it just came up XD But yeah, they are at the same time quite progressive and also very melodic. A mixture i really love. And they do have a very distinctive sound, they did many, *many* covers, and they all sound quite Sokoninaru-esque. Even the Anime covers like WE ARE! or Zankoku na Tenshi no te-ze, one of the few bands to even have a really good X-Japan Kurenai cover. That said, I did recommend these guys, and I managed to get to the end of your video. There's more to be said, obviously, but you did sum it up pretty well, at least I think so. They do have a lot of fun, even in their playthrough/commentary videos they goof around a lot, and the parts-change series is just hilarious, watching their drummer trying to play the bass is hilarious, even if one doesn't understand what they're talking about.

I did around an hour of commentary but I always end up cutting a lot due to time. I had a whole riff about their vocal harmonies, etc... I like them so I'm sure I'll get to them again.

Sokoninaru are my second favourite band. They do it all live believe in or not. I'm sure you know bandmaid and their extremely broad range of styles but left to her own devices without the need to please kanami produces this kind of thing with similar vocal courage often not fan favourites. For example try "Bandmaid corallium live at the eggman". Wonderful breakneck speed harmonies and structure that seems to be knitted.

They have a playlist of covers on their channel with 104 videos currently (I had to check - it keeps growing). Mostly just three of them in a tiny studio room jamming out. I learned a lot going through that list and learning about the originals they were covering as well. Highly recommend for something different just for fun. And yes - I made it to that point in the video.

I don't think I'd specifically recommended them, but I was curious what'd happen when you finally got round to checking Sokoninaru out. I had a similar situation where I'd known of them by reputation, but took ages to find the time to give them a proper listen and regretted the delay. They really don't disappoint and also their dynamic control is just as tight in live footage/performances. Plus you've still not properly seen anything with the current drummer, who also sings harmonies whilst playing.

Great cover and work in getting it from fancams. I don't even think MISA has done an SML isolation on Band-Maid Prime. The thing I like about MISA's part-writing is she puts meaningful color and weight where it fits with the song, rather than just plodding along with the main melody or trying to cram a lot of virtuoso jamming where it doesn't belong. She's definitely a "lead bass," but never overdoes it.

Nice one. I don’t think there’s You on there, but consider Band-Maid Prime, where they have solo member views playing through their songs, which makes it easier to hear, and give you a visual reference of what they’re doing. The Misa self-cover of Corallium was really eye opening for me. Helped me appreciate the song more. She’s pretty hard to hear in the studio track.

Nice attempt on the cover. Might be worth grabbing some pyramid/larger triangular style plectrums for Misa/Koga covers as they slip less in the hand with thicker bass strings. JBI was my first Band-Maid album and also the only one I've since also got the vinyl for (the artwork deserves a full gatefold size sleeve). Although it's less complicated than the albums/EPs that come afterwards, it's already got all the hallmarks of their signature writing/sound and because of the less aggressive mastering I find it far less fatiguing on the ears, making it perfect for repeat listens whilst driving.

Yeah, I'd say they're doing rather well, it's pretty fun to see bands like NEK!, Paleneo, Hagane and others pretty much from the get-go. Kind of reminds me of following Nemophila's early covers to see them blowing up. It's also nice to not have to deal with overly conceited fanbases (interestingly only the foreign ones...), if you saw Hagane's latest premiere being used by a lot of Trolls just to talk sh#t you'll probably know whom I speak of :/ All that said, I'd very much enjoy seeinb you do DEZOLVE - Heart of The World ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RkyBRKBkuMY.html ). It's kind of hard to describe, maybe jazz-fusion-pop-rock. Awesome musicianship doesn't exclusively come from all-girl bands :) Plus, I'd love to see you do that bass part 😈

This was nice. I struggle with Gacharic Spin. The first time I heard them was Mindset, which I liked, especially Angie's vocals, but I poked around a bit more and wasn't finding a second song I could really get into. I feel like sometimes they can get too high concept, or there are maybe too many ideas, and I can't follow a throughline. I'll have to check out more. By contrast, I love Band-Maid, and I think part of their secret sauce is just ... discretion? Their writing can go nuts, but I think Saiki works as like an editor for the writing. They're basically a prog band, but they use their vocals, largely, to keep it catchy and grounded. I think in the process, they discard a lot of songs, and just that exercise of editorial discretion makes it so that I basically like 100% of their output.

Seems like the outfits are their version of Band-Maid's battle armor. They'll probably change seasonally, like after the album or whatever. Looking forward to the album. I like to imagine the legacy of Band-Maid will just be to inspire everyone to put more effort into whatever they do.
