Wow, I think it's pretty cool this popped up in my "Recommended for Me" feed; my substitute teacher just showed this to us in class. She was one of the animators and worked on a lot of the post production!

In the animation, I love that the knives and swords at the end are actually box-cutter, blades and safety razors, appropriate for the scale of the models.

52 years old and starting to investigate the music and artists whom have on occasion given me a smile. To dig into these artists and songs that have left an impression in my mind and heart is a great opportunity which I have not had the time to do. Now retired gives me what makes my heart sing. This and all the groups other songs are now ''The Giants'' which are a part of my daily routine. Sad to see what my ears have been missing for so long. My 19 yr old daughter (born on the Ides of March, raised on Here Come The ABC's) twisted my arm to get tickets for TMBG at the Fillmore last weekend. Was not disappointed: the band played fierce, the voices held up. Was crossing my fingers they would do this song, but it was the Flood show plus a few from the new Book. Honestly, they could play for days and still miss a few I'd want to hear, huge catalog, creative juggernauts. Did I mention they played Sapphire Bullets backwards? Who does that live, just to mess with my head?

This is hands down my favourite TMBG song, it's just so infectious. The actual sound of the song is kind of dark, especially for them.

These guys are so talented, both as musicians and lyricists. I wonder how much control they have over the artists who produce their videos. I'd bet quite a bit, they're idiosyncratic as can be and quite different from each other, but there's clearly a creative vision behind them all.

I have come back to this song for a little over twelve years. And every year i just end up liking it a little bit more.

I can safely say this may be my favorite TMBG song. It was Birdhouse an Ana Ng and the older ones... but...

I think his primary emotion here is fear, rather than admiration. The leader is always described as something dangerous and violent, and John is ready to flee at any moment. I can't say for sure if it is intentional, but another meaning of the word "impressed" is to force someone into doing things for you against their will. I think this double meaning makes a lot of sense.

even though this is clearly alluding to the dictatorship and Assassination of Caesar, After having read alot about him, IK really view it in a different light. Caesar wasn't like any modern dictator in our sense of the word, who used fear and terror to rule over his citizens, in fact, when he was younger, he lived through a reign of terror during Sulla's civil war. Caesar during his political career, was all for reforms to help the citizens, compared to his contemporary senators who wanted to keep the power to the ruling class and aristocracy. And when Caesar started the civil war, he went into it doing his best not to make it a repeat of Sulla's civil war, which saw many of Sulla's rivals and enemies killed. Any of his enemies that he found and defeated, he pardoned, and even his main rival, Pompey, he had planned to pardon, unfortunately Pompey was killed by the egyptians, hoping they could garner Caesar's favor by killing his Rival. and So Caesar helped the famous Cleopatra gain the egyptian throne. after winning the Civil war, all he did was to end corruption and to make the citizen's lives better. and he was actually planning to avenge his deceased friend, Crassus, who died fighting the Parthians. but the members of the Senate, in fear and jealousy of Caesar's popularity and power, killed him before he could leave for his war with Parthia. of course this was a very light overview of his life, but Caesar often gets a bad rep these days of being a Dictator, and that's very sad, as he did things or the people with his power, as much as he did for his own glory.

"Exit's in back of me" means "the exit is behind me". He is paying attention to where the exit is because he thinks that he might have to run away from the situation.

As with many They Might Be Giants songs, this one could be interpreted many different ways, but the impression I always got was that this song was about the modern/ moderate man who can't help be swayed by tyrants - either in politics or the office - with their old-fashion boisterous and domineering masculinity.

In 1988 The second CD I bought when the format was new was the TMBG "Pink Album", and what impresses me about these guys is how they still can come up with fresh, listenable tunes. Even groups that have great chops can only sustain three or four albums before they just put out recycled dreck thats aimed at their fans who just have to have their stuff to make their collection complete (confession: I've been guilty of that and sometimes I regret the waste of money spent on unlistenable crap).
