I think that the plus one hand size is deceptively overrated. It doesn't increase your discard size. It only helps with the discard two random rounds, ultimately it usually only lets you see one more card per antie.

As an individual with hundreds of hours on stardew valley (and who bought it on sale for under $20), I can say that the value of that purchase has affected my decision making when it comes to buying other games, but I also don't go around trashing games by comparing them to my single favorite video game of all time that also happens to be quite cheap for how popular/successful it is
