Do we not agree that a home (just a basic shelter) should be given to you by law? Why is homelessness even an option? No wonder people do extravagant things to secure shelter. A million dollar home is a different story but the point remains; shelter is a basic human necessity.
@@nickthompson1812extravagant things? Like not having basic human decency to pay rent to the owner? Squatters should not have rights over the owners. I almost lived in a phone booth as a teen, so I know what hardship is. I worked 3 jobs and went to college while supporting my child in my 20s, so I'm not looking at this from an entitled view either.
The fact that they cannot be thrown out physically is absurd. It is their home, they should have the right to remove any unwanted guest from their home without persecution.
lol. So, she rented a 10,000 dollar a month property without collecting any of the money upfront and you think that is the fault of the person who is renting the property that she is dumb? If she is that dumb not to get the entirety of the funds up front then that is her fault. In a rental, there is normally first, last, deposit. In airbnb, there is pay all the money and then move in so the fact that she claimed airbnb but for some reason rented the place outside airbnb just goes tro show that she was scamming airbnb and got scammed while trying to stick it to airbnb. I mean, it happens.
Absolutely 💯....especially squatters that decide to destroy your home, intentionally causing some hundreds of thousands worth of property damage. These folks should face mandatory minimum of 5 years in jail....more time if property damage above $25k! Stop playing softball with these degenerates
When courts allow squatters to continue to reside in YOUR home that’s when the courts should be held responsible for the consequences and bills acquired during their stay. This is theft!
Can you imagine being on vacation for a week or two and someone is already living in your house, with access to all your belongings and you literally can't do anything about it because it takes no less than six months and thousands of dollars? What kind of crap is this?
This is why as a airbnb owner you can't allow people to stay long periods. You run the risk of them being protected by squatter laws after a certain period of time.
'This is why you don't rent your house out to people for long, the government is corrupt and allows people to magically be the new owner.' I fixed your stupid speak for you.
@@mariahardy1201In certain places across America, that’s a form of illegal “Constructive Eviction”, as in the Homeowner can face legal charges for doing something like that
A portal needs to be created with names by state and city of individuals who have done this, so that homeowners can carefully vet and lease their property to honest individuals.
There is a portal. It is called actually using Airbnb or vrbo for rental. This lady was trying to get away with not having to use any of those businesses and avoid the fees that come along with it; which would have helped her avoid this. She spent more in lawyer fees than she would have if she had used the proper rental companies!
The USA uses your credit rating for just about everything. While we don't in Canada, if you're not going to vet. don't rent to people you can't track. This guy sounds like he doesn't have English as a first or even second language, Eastern Bloc?? Look at him. You're renting a luxury house to a guy that looks like this??!
We need to normalize a simple lifestyle and stop normalizing debt. Huge SUVs, huge houses and private universities are simply not necessary. I live within my budget and I sleep better at night knowing that if I lose my job tomorrow, ' be fine. I didn't buy the biggest house. I bought the one I could comfortably repay
Yeah can being frugal be sexy please? recently mentioned that I'm frugal to a young woman and she gave me the weirdest look... Being financially responsible is looked down on
I wish I could find it, but I remember reading a study once that claimed financially insolvent men had 1.5-2x more sexual partners than their financially solvent counterparts.
I think people should also seriously look into investing of some kind. Something that brings money back to your pocket, real estate, stocks, whatever can bring back value to their bank account rather than draining it. Obviously investing has its risks but so does just having money in depreciating assets or straight up liabilities.
Big house suv. Bruh you got people driving Honda civics, living in a 1 bedroom apartment and not a luxury one at that living paycheck to paycheck. The median rent is 2000. A lot of financial professionals especially the one I work with Samuel Peter Descovich agree that one should not spend more than 30% of their gross income on rent. That means you need to make a minimum of about $80,000. Interesting considering the median income is $54,000.
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. Your coach was simple to discover online. I did my research on him before I wrote to him. He appears knowledgeable based on his online resume.
Just so we are clear though, the "squatter protections" are actually there because of bad landlords who frequently abused law abiding tenants. There has to be a distinguished line between tenant and squatter to make this right.
@@ottomueller4425 Yes it is. "Squatter laws" as they are freely called, came from unfair and unlawful landlord practices. They are abused because the line is too thin. Have you never looked into why protections like these exists?
A hotel wouldn’t have this issue to evict once the person stops paying for the room. The cops would immediately be called and they would be told to vacate by force immediately. Why is an Airbnb any different?
How exactly did these “Professional Squatters” rent such a luxury home from Airbnb at $10,000.00 month? Aren’t Airbnb rentals done online with credit cards? Doesn’t the payment goes through first? I have never rented an Airbnb but, I‘m assume that that’s the way it works.
She obviously didn't do it through Airbnb or vrbo. Probably trying to avoid the fees that come with using those rental companies. Well, now she has paid more in lawyer fees than she would have paid in Airbnb fees.
@@davidpawson9047 Airbnb wouldn't have allowed it to be rented without being paid for up front. She said several times she hadn't received any money at all.
@mrbear1302 People have stopped payment on cards before, they'll do it again. If the host "canceled" the reservation in order to avoid fees, that is a problem of their own making. However, relatively few guests will carry 10k on them, and few hosts will set up their own credit card acceptance account. If the guest canceled last minute to avoid paying (which is a possibility), that is fraud. I suspect this may be the more likely case: acquire the check-in info, then cancel and depend on the host not being able to react in time.
its not thievery if you gave it to the person and beyond that, it becomes hearsay . Now, if they had a business license and this had happened, then, the business is protected under a different scope of law since a business is expected to trade service or product for goods. Now, I have seen business have to go through the court process to evict tenants but the law would be more in favor of a business.
It's mind boggling that this actually can happen in America. Once somebody is not paying that's criminal trespassing and they should literally be removed that same day, not a month later and after a landlord has to go through an eviction process. I simply don't understand how any law can permit this to happen.
Because when the police show up the squatter will claim (and often show) a fake lease. When they do so - and their stuff is in the location - the police can't really do anything because it's a civil matter. The police have no way of knowing whether the lease is fake or if it's just a vindictive landlord trying to use the police to illegally evict real tenants.
It’s so bad out there my mom has rentals and constantly deals with this stuff. Not to mention property damage. She’s been to court so many times to evict people for non payment.
I would have trouble renting to anyone. My little Brother stole thousands from our Father, then stole thousands more from our dying Middle Brother. And his Wife helped him.
Don't forget getting Air BnB to follow same laws as other hotels and the like. No more special treatment for people buying homes and renting them as investments. Homes are for living in, not receiving a rent pay check from. Build an apartment complex if you want to be a land lord.
These serial squatters are the lowest form of life on earth. And the very idea that there is absolutely nothing you can do to get justice is downright absurd. It flies in the face of everything that is decent and just.
Naw, price gauging renters and running them out of town is the problem. Rent to regular working people and you won't get richer quicker, but maybe you'll sleep at night.
The law allows it, that it brings chaos & confusion. Just like those shoplifters = don't try to stop them from stealing merchandise, which favors criminals
Wow $10k/mo? I would think background check, and upfront deposit would be required before renting out. Hell, we had to go through backround, credit check, deposit and 1st month, while signing our life away with the contract before we could rent a place temporarily while looking for our new home, and the rent was $2400! (Which is expensive to us!)
Would be nice if it didn't take a simple case 10 or 11 months to go to court... This could be handled in days if every state fast tracked these cases like some states are now doing.
There are laws that protect these people, they just don't bother to research the fact that someone in your home for 30 days or more is usually a defacto tenant.
I knew a landlord that would get 10 of his buddy's, remove the tenent/people in the unit, pack up their stuff put it in storage. Then change the locks put an armed guard at the location, done. Once they stop paying rent they should lose all tenent rights.
Airbnb makes it very clear to hosts that if guests stay long term over 30 days, airbnb waives any liability and the host must abide by all local tenant landlord laws. She should have known that already
My ex's ex did this very thing for years. She would rent nice houses, put down just enough to get in the door and then fight eviction for months on end. Their little girl said she never unpacked boxes or suitcases because it was always a matter of time.
Hire an agent, that requires credit checks, etc. These owners are just being cheap trying to cut out a middleman. Serves them right. Penny wise, pound foolish
At last! My dream of luxury living can come true! California seems to be the easiest place, and my dog will love the ocean. Hell, I can come up with the first month’s, but from then on, the place is mine, sucker.
Thats the risks of being a airbnb host. Im glad that the market is crashing, and cities get back much needed housing, and hotels/motels get back business.
The simple solution to these type of rentals is having the power breaker and water shutoffs outside of the rental property. Ideally inside your own home if the rental is on the same property. Trust me once the water and power get cut the rental won't be so desirable anymore.
Except we already have a system in place for that, it is called being a hotel. AirBnB wants it both ways where they aren't tenant rentals but also not guest stays, because then it would mean they would either have to admit that they are a fly by night shady leasing agency or running unlicensed hotels. They can only operate as a business because of the current grey area.
So someone could pay for a two week rental and then the landlord could have the police evict them after 1 day and keep the money? Yeah, that's a great idea. 🙄 AirBnB wants to operate like a hotel but they offer none of the protections of one. What they're really offering are short term leases but that makes their patrons tenants, not guests. If they want to have the same protections as hotels, then they're going to need to be registered as businesses, operate only in commercial zoned areas and play things like hotel taxes.
"They want better laws for short term rental properties." The only problem there is that they are attempting to use these residences as hotel room rentals, which isn't within the law as it is. No one is going to want to write laws that encourage the housing shortage even more.
2 responses: the Hotel ACT SHOULD apply, and you can get rid of non-payers immediately (short term) and in my recreational area short term rentals do NOT affect long term. ST are much more luxurious and high end; rental demand is on the low end. they do not meet. Prevent my assoc. from renting short, they simply will NOT rent, as they keep their homes for summer use for themselves and relatives. Now, in Omaha that might be different, maybe Oracle week only applies, but there's no simple answer.
@@user-zp7jp1vk2i the hotel act should apply? You forget that the only reason running AirBnBs are profitable is because they are running them as hotels but not actually following any of the regulations on running a hotel. "ST are much more luxurious and high end, rental demand is on the low end. They do not meet." Tell me that you have no idea what you are actually talking about without telling me. I work as an electrician and have experience in other realty based contract jobs. Being "high end" or being "low end" doesn't matter one iota. The vast majority of properties listed on AirBnB are the opposite of luxurious.
Curious. The State of Texas, for example, the "only requirement at the state level is to register with the Texas Comptroller's Office. This is needed in order to be able to start collecting a state hotel occupancy tax." Other states have similar rules. Some cities have additional rules. Why you think they are not "within the law" is a mystery. Also bear in mind that anything for which no law exists is perforce legal. If a governing body has not forbidden an activity, one may engage in it.
@@davidpawson9047 "Why you think they are not "within the law"is a mystery." Because none of these landlords doing this are taking those steps. It is almost like you haven't read ANY news article concerning AirBnB in the last 5 years. "If a governing body has not..." You don't understand the concept of business industries being regulated, do you? There is a reason why registered hotels get MUCH greater authority over their rights compared to the fly by night operations on Airbnb. A person can stay 6 months at an extended stay hotel, but the hotel still reserves the right to kick out a guest without eviction. Notice how the squatters in the very video you are commenting on require an eviction? Why don't you take a moment and think about that for one second before you show your own ignorance of the reality any more.
It’s absolute nonsense how we don’t have laws on the books pertaining to squatters that the homeowner can literally throw them out on their ears grab them by their hair and drag them out of their house. The damn squatters have more rights than the homeowner the people that are paying the taxes it is absolutely absurd.
He's lying, he lies about everything. They are a family of grifters, nothing more. Their picture needs to be plastered all over the state to help others avoid having to deal with them. One simple tip..get the money up front. There needs to be a website that displays the info on serial squatters.
question.....as someone who struggles to pay rent....why should i care about owners of multiple properties? the american dream is profiting off of others necessities😊
They're running a business, why shouldn't they get their money? Remember, every time you purchase something, someone is making money off of you. Ever buy a house or a car? After all is said and done, how much interest did the bank make off of you? Depending on the size of the loan, it could be 10s of thousands.
My dads friend had problems with squatter in the 80s in california.turns out my dad's friend was the mechanic used by a local hells angels MC AND HE ASKED for a favor in trade of free work for the head of the chapters motorcycle. They sent 5 of their biggest guys to walk in the door and tell the people to leave its their place now. These people left but had trashed the place. Turned it into a meth head flop house. So the owner had them rounded up and put to work to repay for repairs and back rent. It really wasn't level by forcing the people to work but there were no tater laws back then. The guy just didn't want the cops involved. Now it seems squatters have more rights than the owners themselves.which is so wrong. Squatting in my opinion is breaking and entering and theft.
But it's her property. She was nice. She was nice for 2 months without receiving a dime. Or was she lady talking about the squatters? I hope she was talking about the squatters and not the owners.
As someone who lives next door to a vacation rental, it amuses me that things like this happen. The owners don't care at all about the people who live around their rental but as soon as they suffer negative effects, they want immediate action. Hypocrites.
A couple of years ago I saw this documentary about living in Russia rental property’s where very cheap new condo’s 3 bedroom had everything like in the United States. Anyways they showed this landlord having problems with an un paying tenants They didn’t pay rent for 3 months so the owner called people that would come out and by and remove the tenants out to the street they also move all of there things out to the sidewalk and it’s DONE. The documentary said there’s NO court’s renters protection if they don’t have the money they should be kicked out! This how it used to be in the United States in the 1900 to 1960. That’s when the government got soft. The government always takes the side of the none paying tenants!
Lol! That's a bit like what my sister's neighbor did with an old farmhouse she was renting out on her property - except that "Buster" burned the place down. Sadly there was no-one home at the time.
And does this man have a job? Can you apply a lien on his wages at his employer? Is is a legal resident? Or an illegal immigrant? Can he be deported? For cases like this there should be court fast tracking. Some of them are really cut and dry. You need to punish the offenders quickly or they'll just keep doing it. The longer you let the crime go on, the more money the squatter owes, that they're not going to be paying back. Perhaps you should make a country wide 'registry' of known offenders so that folks doing a background check of a tenant can quickly have a place to go to in order to validate if they are going to be facing a problem or not.
I don’t feel bad for the owner. This is what happens when all the real estate inventory is bought up by investors leaving no affordable housing for everyday Americans.
Renters like this, and there are thousands of them, displace themselves. You are free to gather friends and family together and then buy your own house.
Americans were inconsiderate, entitled, disrespectful and selfish long before Biden took office. Why else would so many people worship and vote for that trashy New Yorker who held office before him?
@@RichRotorhead Wealthy envy? You mean "Greed envy" - and no. I don't like greedy pigs. Plus the owner's botox/plastic surgery was awful. That's why she charged so much, to change her looks. I would rather be a recluse than to have that creepy plastic surgery! I doubt you are "rich", Rotarhead.
