@@TheBoondoggler The screaming for vengeance album sounded good on any sound system. Had a friend with the worst car stereo ever and everything he played sounded distorted above 50% volume yet somehow this album sounded great cranked all the way up. The engineering on this album was next level when it came out. Got to see screaming for vengeance and the point of entry tours. Luckily I live in a big house with neighbors not too close so I get the luxury of hot tubes and a ridiculous pedalboard. Nothing funner than stacking pedals and looking for fat creamy tones.

Not actually freaky. At that time we had a lot of information out about the capabilities of tech advances in both military and social uses. It's not really hard to look at which directions those advances are taking to understand that the capability to misuse them when enjoined with the tech of the time (which was assumed to be also advancing) could be. Today we have once benign online services that can unilaterally dictate what we see and what we can say. Tech is ALWAYS neutral. People are either just or not just.

The most important comment on this 🧵 is mentioning "The Hellion"..... The surname Helion is derived from the Old English word helm, which means a covering. In some later dialects, this word took on the which means of a roofed shelter for cattle. I'm assuming JP means we are cattle :) especially with the song that follows.

"A lot of these bands were really in touch with how corrupt the government is." Great observation. Makes it even more baffling how the general vibe of modern music has completely 180'd. They're almost all on the side of big tech and big government.
@rmr5044
@rmr5044 2 года назад
Can you give some examples? I don't see how modern music is "on the side of big tech and big government". Metal music today still talks about government corruption, climate change, war, religious stupidity, and so on. Alot of hip-hop/rap music still discusses systemic issues that plague modern society. Pop/mainstream music is still all about the same romantic tropes that have been around for decades.
@Huddle_House56
@Huddle_House56 2 года назад
RMR he’s talking about popular music and if you don’t understand it you aren’t listening. As much as I don’t like her music, look how Nicki Minaj is being treated for just simply stating her opinion on the government pokey poke. She’s literally one of them and one with a MASSIVE following and even she can be ousted and lambasted for stepping out of line. Most popular artists have their songs written for them and if you can’t tell they’re ALWAYS about the same things. They’re all super rich and donate to (one) political party and all intermingle. Look at Alexandria Occasional Cortex at her hunger games party (met gala) intermingling with all those celebrities with her fking $30,000 dress that says “tax the rich” on it like what a fking joke. Hollywood’s the same way if not worse based on how women are basically sxually assaulted before they get roles. When you see an attractive woman in a big Hollywood role she either wanted to put out to be there or was forced to AT THE VERY LEAST take her clothes off to see what she looked like naked before she could even get a role. And they don’t care how old they are either. Remember that Netflix movie “Cuties” with the twerking 11 year old girls? Yeah 600+ underaged girls were auditioned for that movie. The entertainment industry is intertwined with the government man and most of it is actually quite vile.
@rmr5044
@rmr5044 2 года назад
@@Huddle_House56 You did not list any examples of music being on the side of "big tech" and "the government". And ghost writers have been used for decades. They specialize in writing catchy songs with relatable, palatable subject matter. As for pop stars donating to the democratic party, that's completely understandable. Most creative and artistic people throughout history have been more progressive and/or supportive of liberal policies. The Republican party is the bastion of social conservatism. Conservatives have ALWAYS been opposed to most innovative creative, artistic, and "radical" methods of self expression. Conservatives tried to kill rock and metal music because it was too "satanic" and would "rot the brains of our children". Conservatives have always tried to kill innovative art styles, from Fauvism to Cubism to Abstract-Expressionism to Conceptual art. It's the conservatives who would call young women "whores" back in the day for exposing their ankles. It's the conservatives who shame women who would rather focus on their careers instead of engaging in the "cult of domesticity". So, if you are a rich progressive artistic person, who would you rather donate to? The conservative Republican party which has historically tried to kill all forms of artistic and social progression? Or the Democratic party which is more liberal and accepting of progressive art-forms and social movements?
@Huddle_House56

My parents were in the military and for their retired units 25-year reunion they sent out to the unit's members a postcard. The picture was a declassified photo of a dime on the runway of their base, and you could read the words and even see the scratches on the face of the dime. The photo was taken in 1959 from the edge of space by a now famous spy plane on the camera's final trials before being sent to space on their first spy satellite. No digital photo's back then, imagine what they can do now.

I feel like us who grew up listening to 80's metal see right through what the government is doing. What suprises me is how many people who were anti government in the 80's now support government control.

This album came out while I was in HS, listening to this song while reading Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451", the "dog" in the novel watches for people reading books and reports them. To me the "dog" is "electric eye". I even suggested that some of my HS students listen to this while reading the book, math teacher.

Now we're talkin. If you ever need ONE Band with ONE song to represent Heavy Metal... It's Judas Priest and Electric Eye. They do have a lot of songs that define heavy metal though. But this band is the incarnation of the genre.

I'm 56, I saw this album tour, Maiden opened at Madison Square garden, incredible concert. This was the beginning of a more radio friendly Priest. Compared to their'70's output this was when they became world famous. Still, for me, their 2 best albums are Sin after Sin and Stained Class.

I remember this song from the '80s. Cameras were just becoming a "thing" in our society. They were pretty random, but within a couple of years they were in most convenience stores and smaller places. Then it exploded..

I saw Judas Priest in the early 80's and almost didn't because of a tornado warning coming during the opening act, we all had to evacuate to the concourse. But luckily it passed and we were able to see the main act.

She hits the cool hard hit I always like ( a little bridge section, 'there's nothing you can DO about it...') Her explanation of algorithm tracking us now is pretty deep - back then it was about a satellite only not in our actual phone that followed us around. very well explained!

The book, 1984, was written in 1949. I always find it interesting how certain authors, often in the science fiction genre, correctly predict the future evils we will inflict upon ourselves with technology. Also, growing up in the 70's and 80's, my religious family thought music like Judas Priest & Iron Maiden was "evil" until I sat them down and read the lyrics to them. It's amazing how much of it is anti-gov / anti-war, anti-drug, or in the case of Maiden, ancient-history lessons.

Priest has been my fav band for over 40 yrs now. Electric Eye is one of my favorite Judas Priest songs. 1982 was the year way before internet. Being ruled by a corrupt government is very very a topic today. Judas Priest has always been great songwriters, enjoyed the review.😎👍

The technology they are referencing in this song absolutely existed in 1982 when this was released. My Great Uncle(Grandmothers Brother) was in the Secret Service for more than 20 years. I remember him telling me when I was a kid(around 1990) that the government had technologies that were 20-30 years ahead of their time. Things we would describe as science fiction. I remember he told me about flat screen TV's way back then about 20 years before they made the consumer market. The government gets to pick through the new patents and take whatever they want in the interest of 'national security'.

This came out in '82. I wore this album out playing it so much. It is my favorite Priest album...by far! And it is an awesome driving album...I played this over and over when I drove across country in the Fall of '82. You can play the whole album, or the popular songs some might suggest from it, but at least try: Devil's Child__Fever__Bloodstone__Pain and Pleasure__(Take These) Chains. ←Some will notice I suggested those many would never. First time I saw them Live was on my 21st B-Day at the US Festival '83 in San Berdoo. Was a really good concert with really good bands.

100 percent correct about bands back in the day seeing things coming. Here's a short list of bands and songs that 100 percent called it years to decades before we got to where we are today. Megadeth - Washington is Next (I'm convinced Dave is a time traveler with that one) Nuclear Assault - When Freedom Dies Sepultura - Propaganda Xentrix - For Whose Advantage? Havok - I Am The State Hell, even Sum 41 - We're All To Blame That's just what I can think of off the top of my head but there are many more bands and songs that absolutely called it.
