Shout out to the person who got you to check this out. A friend of mine who grew up in LA moved to my area of Kentucky around '94 , He had this on cassette tape. They were an underground band at the time.

I seen these guys, orange 9mm and deftones. tiny trailer shaped club in 1994or 95, for 8 bucks I got to see these guys and deftones. no stage barrier, the singer handed me the mic to scream "anger" then out came deftones. hopping from the stage to the bar, to get a drink. tiny ass club called the reptile house, no longer around. grand rapids MI

they were contemporaries with RATM (early 90's) but more associated with the metal/hardcore scene than RATM.

This song was originally wrote as a diss track to RATM. The line where he says “fool what you know about a set or a sign” was ORIGINALLY wrote as “zack, what you know about a set or a sign.” Because Zack from RATM claimed to be from the hood. Which allegedly, he was not. Downset and RATM were not friends back in the 90’s. Hahaha

R.A.T.M(RUN AND TAKE MONEY) sounds like Downset. Not the other way around. They were rivals,the part in this song where he says "zack! What you know about a set or a sign? Fake m.f. never even seen a 9" was directed to their vocalist.

My old band was due to open shows in the uk for downset a few years ago, but unfortunately their drummer got sick, and the tour got cancelled. Fantastic band. Sangre Manos is another great song of theirs. Great reaction

Please check out Grey Daze, the first band of Chester Bennington before joining Linkin Park. You will be amazed how talented was Chester even that time, he was 17 when their first album was released. They remastered some of their old songs from their 1994 and 1997 albums as they couldn’t get a chance to re-record them, so the vocals of Chester from 94 and 96 are used with new instruments. Songs to check out from Grey Daze are Soul Song (original music video is directed and acted by Chester’s eldest son Jaime to to reveal his connection with his dad), Moire Sky, B12 (Written by 12 year old Chester) and Sickness. You won’t be disappointed ❤️

I feel that Rage vibe for sure, but the voice reminds me of Scott Ian from Anthrax when he raps, the attitude takes me to early Agnostic Front, bass from first two Precious Death albums, lyrics a more simplistic PE.

Check out INSIDE OUT. Zack's punk band before Rage. And yeah, Downset was making this stuff the same time as Rage, if not before. They definitely weren't biting.
