Im Chinese, I hear these types of stories so much and the court system is screwed up. I often hear they will favor the parents even if its horrendously unfair to the actual victim.

Even though they are good family, someone from the family told the neglectful parents and that's how the neglectful parents were able to sue. Though, my guess it was "through the grapevine" the other family found out. Would've been nice if there was proof shown that the Aunt was the caretaker the entirety of the woman's childhood. The parents are an example if they were not there in the child's life, because they chose not to be, then they shouldn't get to reap the rewards of the child they tossed to the aunt.
The high parental respect thing or law in china is a great thing as alot of children sh*t on their parents but in this case the parents did not deserve any thing

You forgot to give ending that they won too. Court of course refuse their biological son to demand house from her but made her liable to pay her parents monthly alimony. Weird similar thing happened in India too, but here court thrown her parents in jail for risking their daughters life by abonding her at railway station. Their daughter become a famous doctor just like her adopted parents.
Sadly, Chinese customs force them to do as their parents say until they die. They're slaves to their parents until the parents die basically, so them demanding her to buy her brother that she NEVER MET an apartment is perfect legal grounds to sue the daughter they abandoned to the Chinese Cocksucking Party, so she's done being able to live a good life unless she enjoys the fact her parents can use her money however they want because of the fact they so happened to be the ones who conceived her with no way of stopping them. Every cent she makes is now her sperm and egg donors' retirement fund and means of buying the man who just so happens to have the same parents as her what he wants
I think everyone should be forgiven for your own sanity… so I think she should forgive them for not wanting her but accept the truth and not help them. I think that’s the most honorable thing to do
In Chinese law it doesnt matter. The parents are always the parents even if they attempt to kill you or disown you or anything. This is because the Chinese government doesn't have the capacity to take care of all its elderly..and confucianism. Therefore, regardless of everything, it is the biological childrens responsibility for their biological parents and any extra they take on. Or you go to jail for the rest of your life.

Sons were just there to "protect" the lineahe family .mainly to keep the family name cuz it was their belief that only male could. Ironically, either female or male have the bloodline to continue carrying but it appears that the moment women married they kind of /forgot/ cuz it was beneficial for the patriarch to carry for just the one that would stay at home. This is why when we see a few powerful family that don't follow the norm, they were oppressed to follow or hated and would be battles cuz they were setting a bad example to the peasants.
Thats...not how it works there. The parents are always the parents and always have full control. They cant not be the parents. Ever. So they cant ever be required to pay child support since whatever they do or dont do is considered the best for the child

In Korea, there is an artist who commit su*cide due to depression. Her mother, who has abandoned her since she was a child, tried to claim her inheritance, but her brother, who grew up with her, had a legal battle with his mother and won. Because of that case, Korea decided to make a new law against parents who abandon their kids, preventing them from inheriting their property in the future.
They abandoned their daughter and totally spoiled their son with everything who became entitled and wasted it all. He was supposed to become successful and take care of his parents, but he didn’t care, so they went after the successful daughter… Sad case…

This is chinese national law. This happens all the time in China, you are required by law to care personally and financially for your aging parents regardless of everything, even if they never saw you in your life. If you dont, you go to jail. Even if you cant afford it. The elderly are considered more important than the young always. Which is the backwards of nature.

Sadly China does not have a health care system in place for the elderly and boys have a legal obligation to provide for their families as they age. So this creates an incentive for wanting boys as a retirement plan. The girl has no legal obligation but then again, it is China, corruption runs just as deep as everywhere else.

Yeah they're getting shredded in the Chinese media. Even their government media in English is talking about it. State sponsored media doesn't normally go out of its way to say anything critical of of the state but this was over the line and everyone wants it fixed.
Filial piety goes both ways.... Parents are supposed to care for children and ensure their welfare. Unfortunately huge portions of Chinese society are still extremely misogynistic, leading to situations like this, or instances where the daughter's marriage is viewed as a financial transaction to benefit her birthday family.

This rule has nothing to do with her gender, but with cultural norms regarding filial piety. Similar stuff happened to boys that were abandoned during the one child policy that still became successful. A few years ago there was a lawsuit against a man who started a business in Europe (and left China decades prior) over similar claims, but as he had given up his Chinese citizenship and was a citizen of another country the family was told to pound sand. They found out he was rich because of a news article, and hadn't talked to him in at least 20 years, but if he still lived in China, he would have lost due to the duty towards ones parents. Chinese culture certainly has issues with misogyny, but not all issues are because of that. Rather, I would even argue that the assumption that it was misogyny was in and of itself misogynistic, as it reduces her to just a woman, rather than looking at all the factors.

I was looking at this from the specific perspective of the woman in the story, but upon reflection I can see that male children might be subject to even greater pressure. While misogyny might be a factor in the case in question, I have to agree that the filial piety requirement is no respecter of the child's sex.
I wouldn’t even fight with them if they would want to go to court with me before they even could. I would just move out into a different country or state, but they can even sue me.

Like, I understand the fact that you need to respect your elders (it’s part of tradition and culture), but tradition at some point is meant to be broken. It’s so dumb how those parents, once realizing their daughter was rich and could afford an apartment for their relatives, came back, didn’t apologize to their daughter, and impolitely asked for money. I believe it is common sense to know who is in the wrong here. A child who was abandoned by their biological family or parents that didn't contact their own child for years and only come back for money..... But apparently Chinese government doesn't have those common sense
Only a court that is obviously ran by criminals would litigate a case put forth by dishonest, disrespectful, disgraceful, morally bankrupt, and dishonorably monsters. The lawsuit should have been immediately dismissed and the biological parents should have been (and still should be) obligated to pay significantly for abandoning and neglecting their daughter all those years. Injustice makes me furious especially when it’s perpetuated by a supposed legal or justice system. There is a particular place of eternal anguish in hell for people that neglect and abandon children. But then to robe them after they have grown up is a deeper level of endless torment and regret that will never be resolved or forgotten.
You think that'd fly? Hell, in my old country, inheritance laws were also messed up. When you pass away and assuming without a will, your parents ALWAYS get first dibs even if you cut contacts and your children never get any (unless stated in the will). This really shows Asian society view children as a money-making tool.

I'm facing a similar "parent" situation with my in-law. My late partner passed away but he had a settlement with the sity coming. She's trying to swoop in like she has been there for him his whole life and get control of his money!!! She abandoned him and he only kept her in his life as a source of income because he was an addict. She's trying to claim I have no rights to his estate. She only claims him after he has passed and is trying to say it's for his and mine children's interest. She called them "her grandchildren" when she has had zero involvement in their lives. Were you married to him? If not then that money needs to be put in a trust so when your kids turn a certain age they can use that to get a head start in life as adults, from the little bit you've told us it sounds like they will need it.

My co-worker from Hong Kong’s parents wouldn’t pay for her to go to school and made her work, do chores, cook, and care for her little brother and them. She later put herself through school. Her brother got married and decided he and his wife should not have to work so the parents told my co-worker she had to pay for her parents, brother, sister-in-law, and nephews living expenses. China got it wrong. All those strong women carrying for themselves and holding up their families…

It's much worse than that. The One Child Policy seriously fucked up Chinese society. There are about 30 million more unmarried men than women so it's extremely hard to find a wife especially if you don't have at least an apartment, Chinese families actually band together to buy apartments and houses for their sons. Also there's no support system for the elderly. Traditionally it was the duty of your kids to take care of you but that doesn't work if you only have one kid who has a spouse who is also an only child. The real estate market is crazy for a variety of reasons, but mostly because of the stupidity of the CCP. China has at most 20 years before a complete societal collapse.
