@@N_K_romeI'm pretty sure because Crash was no longer associated with Playstation or some like that I could be wrong but it definitely would have e been cool
@@SiivajennaThere was a bunch of characters that wasn’t included due to either rights or promotional reasons. I.E. Raiden instead of Snake for promo, Sony not coming to an agreed dollar amount for Crash with Activision, etc.
Oh-ho that Bunker. That STUPID Bunker. I remember all the days I spent trying to ace it (no respawns). Might as well have been a real bunker for how much blood was shed.
Bro, the way im only like?? FIVE minutes in this vid and I’m already emotional. This is the game series that is so dearly loved within my family and my heart personally, and the way ur talking abt it is DESERVED and RELATABLE like i can spew how much I love this game for days or even weeks if I was given the chance. just. like. this.
I played LBP3 when it came out, I was very hyped about it because I was an avid player of LBP2. When it came out, I remember the only bug I encountered was not progressing to the next area after finishing the prologue or whatever it was, but aside from that, I remember playing it for years without any remarkable problems. Maybe that was just because I was a kid though. I really liked the new characters too, especially Swoop
I actually got to play LBP2 with glitchmaster-7 many times when i was like 14. I just came across him online and they were a really cool guy. Even gave me some hacked costumes too just bc I wasn't immediately "GIMME HACKS!" Genuine chapter of my life this series.
Shoutouts to the Music Sequencer community, making the hottest bangers of the 2010's that no one will be able to listen too anymore -If it weren't for the archival work of LittleBigAudio, who uploaded a ton of those songs for us to appreciate. Their community collaboration special "LBP2 2000th" is absolutely goated God bless, and rest well. LBP was taken from us too soon, but the memories are forever
Even though I didn’t play online I did play storyline again and again so many times with my brother. We just had nothing to do but it was so fun. We spent about 10 hours a day playing it and didn’t get bored. This is what’s called a good game
NEVER diss the lbp3 end music ever again. Beautiful video though and I relate to EVERYTHING you said. Best retrospective on LBP I've ever seen, you put everything into beautiful words with funny editing lmao =)
I love little big planet 2 (I had a ps3 through the pandemic, I was about 10 at the time, I played this nonstop.) it’s my fav little game. I’m so sad that all the little big planet servers are all down on ps3.
Hey, just some advice, the Blue Yeti microphone is a side address microphone, which means when you have the mic in the horizontal position you aren't speaking into the part that captures audio.
I vividly remember that The Jason Vorhees level in LBP1 gave me nightmares, also I legitimately tried to make a level based on the Legend of Zelda ocarina of time forest temple.
I haven’t ever played or grew up with little big planet but I did have a game similar experience with a called blocksworld, and the game and community is very similar but not exact to little pig planet. I had very similar memories to it like what you had, but the fate of it is eerily similar to little big planet. As just like little big planet there was a complete server shutdown without warning and everyone’s work was lost. And just like that there were also community servers trying to keep it up but it wasn’t enough, the game was long gone. Although there is a company trying to bring it back but it’s unclear when this will be completed. Watching this video, it was like looking into a mirror, like I could replace only the names of everything mentioned and the events would still add up and make sense. It was nice to have a moment of empathy with you, you random youtuber I watch for random deep dives. I had no idea I shared the same tragic experience with a completely alien community I haven’t ever looked into before, that the same events happened to two different games all because of scummy company decisions. But I suppose that’s a way of life, holding on to something until eventually letting go but keeping the memories you had. This video hit very close to home for me, and I bet for many other people who grew up with this same game or maybe even a different one just like these two.
Dude I’ve been referencing the dupps for so long and nobody ever gets it When they did the SpongeBob parody and Mr krabs says “oh ma boi yer 4 seconds late” to me that was peak comedy Thank you for being awesome Chaz and making this video o7
in september 2021 my friend and I tried to go back to lbp2 and replay buy 'n sell as we used to do in elementary school, only to find that the ps3 servers had been shut down one day prior. shit was tragic
GOD FUCKING DAMN IT the only part of the game ive never experienced fully was the online community First my ps3 becomes unable to connect to wifi anymore Now i learn i cant even have hope of playing it in a far future cause everything from the community is gone 😭
When devs made games... sigh, now all gaming is COD, some type of battle royale, and the yearly sports game that could pass as being made 10 yrs ago honestly these rich kids are to blame they're buying everything new regardless😭😭
Bro this reminded me of a youtuber I liked named Bucket! He made a video about little big planet as well I recommend it heavily fr fr on god no capperino.
LBP 1 and 2 will always have a special place in my heart. It was one for the few games me and my sister would play and bond over when we were young. We would spend HOURS just fucking around in creative mode.
Sony killed off LBP because it didn’t have any hyper-realistic faces and mo-cap technology to show off to investors who have no soul and don’t have any idea how games are made.
my spouse and i met on LittleBigPlanet Dive-In 13 years ago, we met eachother irl two years ago and have now been married for 5 months. Thank you LBP ❤️
Lex Luthor: You all have something I need. The Flash: OH NO, HE WANTS OUR HAIR! That shit was fuckin hilarious. That was like a straight up Spider-Man level quip.
The Ps5 generation always make me sad. Not because of the lack of games that everyone says these days. More so I feel like big game companies forgot how to make well polished smaller less demanding tiles nowadays besides Nintendo every one of these PlayStation only games are going for a big cinematic last of us type experience that would be better than the last with the most advance graphics when yeah that is cool and all. It’s nothing like the Wild West type approach where any game they make can be different from the last and it can appeal to more people even ones who don’t play these games often.
Yeah the ps5 is basically just a Bugsnax machine in terms of stuff that feels smaller but more well polished and even then it’s still not a ps5 exclusive
Yeah, most AAA studios are ignoring the potential of smaller titles. Nintendo really are tho only ones that make small titles now. It’s annoying that Nintendo always prices them too highly most of the time, but at least they exist.
This is why I am more of a Nintendo fan PS3 and PS2 is when they had personality it all feels lost now like there is no parappa, patapon, little big planet, sky cooper, ape escape, and so much more I feel like there sacrificing personality and fun to make games that just look good all there ips that had personality are either gone or moved to elsewhere
My brother was a pretty big creator in LBP2 and 3 and we went back and played before the servers shut down for the first time in forever and his world had so many comments people also coming back after years and wishing he had made just one more level. Crazy to see how much an influence this game had on so many people
I could only play the lbp2 demo and when we got ps4 and pan, we played story mode and that’s the best. I even tried re-making the entire game in Unity and Roblox
one thing I wanna mention is lbp 1’s tutorial levels for creators that take place on the moon. They were really charming and the narrator’s voice was perfect for the role, it was like 2010s Bob Ross
LBP 1 and especially those moon levels (like the advanced tutorials with the water) have to be one of my favorite themes for a game of all time. I wish more games were able to capture that vibe. The moon levels always gave me a perfect, relaxing dream type feel
I’m pretty sure the Negativatron is a vacuum because it represents the ‘cleaning time’ after fun, all the toys being put away, and the fun… ending I’m even pretty sure there’s a cutscene at the beginning or end of the game with an actual vacuum cleaner sucking stuff up LBP is an imaginary world I think it is a similar deal to the ‘Kraggle’ in the Lego movie just being superglue lmao
Oh boy. I remember one where you investigate a soda company, and it ended with you becoming the soda. Phenomenal level design that haunts me to this day
The thing about lbp series is how insane the player customization is and they also carry over your stuff from the previous lbp games, they didn't have to do that but it is appreciated.
Some random "obscure" fact that always comes to mind is just the memory of the paper guy sackboy in lbp1 and 2. People genuinely thought it was fake. They said if anyone said they had it they were hackers or something When all it was, you just had to beat the final level without deaths. It wasn't even that secret
I remember working so damn hard as a little kid to get that skin. When I eventually got it; I was extremely proud - I wanted to wear it and show off my accomplishment, but I would semi-frequently get kicked from people's lobbies for that reason - I'd get called a hacker and whatnot too lmao. Needless to say kid-me was pretty annoyed.
Every time you need to unlock your inner rage just remember that Sony just killed LBP and then proceeds to forget it even exists (I love how you clearly had fun replaying the game)
@@PipeGuy64Bitit’s less that they tossed it away and more like media molecule the devs of the series were too busy with dreams. More often than not when a Sony ip gets abandoned it’s due to the devs not wanting to make a new game for that series.
There's this saying that the opposite of trauma is play. I had a rough childhood, so lbp was almost therapeutic for me. When no one was there for me when I was a kid, lbp gave me friends, a coping mechanism, a creative outlet... everything I am now looking for in my adult life. I feel sad that I wont ever be able to go back to it, but it was there for me when I needed it most.
Same... Through LittleBigPlanet, I could actually reach out to the outside world, connect with my brother, and make friends that are still my family to this day. I went from being isolated in an abusive environment to forming connections, growing as a person, and even doing commission work for Media Molecule themselves! I'm even going on a plane for the first time tomorrow to see my girlfriend who I met through my LBP friends in person for the first time and I'm bringing controllers so we can play the game that saved my life together. 😌
man adulting is rough i just wish i could go back in time and see my younger self playing with all these people the people was there for you and me it really was a community
same. I didn’t grow up normally and I never had any attention. I didn’t know how to act or be social at school. so LBP was my life. I could be someone and I could make friends. I would stay up late nights and play, even being punished for it. I’m happy for those times 😢
Hey man... I know it's been two months, but you should really look into this game called Restitched. It's trying to be LBP but its own thing, and while it hasn't released yet, I'm really looking forward to it bringing that LBP-style creativity back.
Usually I’d comment something quirky or silly but damn. You hit it out of the park with this one. It comes off as a genuine passion project and it’s clear you have a very emotional connection to LBP. Bravo, man
Little big planet might be the single most charming game ever made, there was something so magical about looking at the story mode levels and knowing you could fully recreate every single one of them with the tools they give you in the level editor
LBP always reminds me of the hot summer days I spent in my childhood, sitting on the floor and playing LBP with my sister, trying to beat the story mode and having a blast while doing it. We usually found ourselves sidetracked by just placing objects and stickers onto eachother or fooling around in the pod
Sackboy was Sony's lovechild, and to see him and his series burned so quickly with no fanfare is just disgusting. Sumo Digital's incompetence to keep the whole POINT of LittleBigPlanet alive is especially disheartening. The slogan of the series was "Play, Create, Share" and Sumo went and threw away the latter two words for some basic 3D platformer I never see anyone talk about. I don't think I even saw any marketing for it past its reveal trailer years ago. The poor performance of the series was due to Sumo's inability to create fun games after Media Molecule's departure and Sony's unwillingness to try and keep it alive and breathing, and what did they do when they saw that poor performance? They packed it up and said goodbye to it all. Sure, hackers also had a hand at its downfall, and the game (LBP3) was quite old, but the only reason nothing could be done was due to not being optimized and stable in the first place. If only Media Molecule stayed for one more game before moving on... then maybe the series could have stayed alive for a little longer. Rest in Peace, LittleBigPlanet. You were my childhood.
To be fair though, (as Chaz alluded to) LBP3 was a failure in the first place because Sony just NEEDED an LBP game for that holiday season. Companies wanna pull in all the stops to please their shareholders, but at what cost? LBP's downfall, as well as Dreams's failure to take off due to poor marketing, was Sony's fault alone and I will die on that hill.
The issue with #3 was that it was trying to do WAY too much with a game engine made in 2008. Not only was LBP not designed for 16 layers, but It was almost always too much. And all the stuff sumo added turned out to be buggy and kinda mid. I played a fair bit of all these games, LBP2 being the most I played, it was peak. I never played the story, because I never liked that about them, but recently went back and watched some playthroughs. And I 100% feel like #3s story was overcomplicated, confusing, and very much the biggest drawback. Almost entirely because they spent more time doing that than fixing the game.
@@Cade_Rufus Imo, dreams failed because it was literally a whole game engine, that not many people know how to use. Not many people want to spend time making whole games from scratch without any monetary outcome.
I don't think it's Sumo's fault really. First, LBP's engine is garbage. Its ancient and buggy, and its extemely insecure servers were what lead to its shutdown. To make matters worse, its outdated tools were never updated after they were created and Sumo were basically on their own a bit after acquiring the source code. On top of having to port the game to the PS4, alongside working on LBP Hub at the time, and possibly being forced by Sony to release the game in late 2014, you can't really blame them for the final game's release. Generally it seems that Sumo was (and still is) restricted on what games they can make, which is most likely why we got SABA instead of LBP4. Even the devs themselves want to continue working on LBP. But sadly they can't because of the people in charge.
@@jwalster9412I don't get the "16 layers are not good" argument. 1. 16 layers gives creators the freedom to make bigger levels. 2. LBP1's layer count at some point in development was actually more than 3, so the game was technically designed with more than 3 layers. 3. You don't need to use the extra 13 layers.

I remember once playing Little Big Planet 3, very young and met a friend, i was a Sonic fan at the time and he was also a Sonic fan, he had a mic and i didn't but i couldn't spell, so i would have to try my hardest to spell certain things to him to communicate, we actually hung out really often for days just being Sonic fans and playing levels. Eventually i stopped playing the game and forgot about my friend, 5 to 6 years later maybe, i hop on my ps4 i just got and got a mic and i remembered that friend i used to hang out with, so excited i texted my old friend i hung out with. Texted something like "Hey i just got a mic, you want to play LTB3?" and got a response back, it was "Who are you?"
They honestly jut might not remember the name. Explain to them where you're from, and they might've remembered. Because remember, YOU also forgot them until you remembered.
Though we can't really relive those late 2000's -- early 2010's LBP community feels anymore, there's still a passionate community working hard to create new projects on the franchise. The modding community has actually really sprung up in recent times, and the servers shutting down has led to a multitude of level archival efforts, as well as a new, expansive wiki being in the works. They can certainly push us down, but man, this community does NOT want to give up just yet.
They gotta be careful though. Bloodborne Kart had to have its name changed because Sony wanted to remind people that they own the rights to the game and will probably do nothing with it, despite Miyazaki saying that he's eagerly waiting on the OK from them to either approve a Bluepoint remake, a PC port, etc.
@@AluminumFusion22 Oh, we've already learned that once with Restitched. I'm talking more about projects focused towards revitalizing what already exists, not necessarily making new games. The modding and all that is pretty much legal.
There's this obscure channel that I remembered watching as a kid called Dragonicfire that played several fan-made levels back in the day. God, how I missed that era of LBP youtube.
@@yendo1774 Mega Moon Madness was a wild ride to watch, back in the day it really inspired me to gather a crew and do random shit on the moon, placing random community items, destroying shit, the occasional nuke, and maybe some actually original objects made in the anarchic madness, you just had to be there...
You should check out this game called Restitched which is basically an unofficial spiritual successor to LBP. It hasn't been released yet but they post development blogs that are super interesting. It's used to be a fan game before they had to rebrand it as its own thing because of a DMCA.
Something that is probably lost Media that is something only I know was this one RU-vid channel that made a clone of Stickmen on Crack but called Sackboys on Crack, but the guy also made a LBP amv music video using a techno song that used samples from south park and then one day it disappeared and it has been stuck in my head since I never got to learn where the song came from or even who made it
Please make the sequel a feature-length film, I’m begging 🙏 Edit: Oh my god, my jaw dropped when you started assembling each LBP RU-vidr like they were the Avengers Okay, now that I’ve actually finished the video, all I can say is thank you! It’s so cool to hear everyone’s unique experiences with the game, and it’s comforting to know that we weren’t alone in what we shared. I will forever lament the loss of this franchise, but our only choice is to move forward.
