Who knew that washing the dishes is a perfect time for mindfulness and practicing being ALIVE?! We love this practice, and this little video gives us all a little nudge in the direction of inspiration for our dirty dishes. Taking that time as an opportunity for gratitude for our dishes, and a time away from devices and other things. A time to be truly present.
Share with your family, roommates, and friends! Imagine a home with people happy to do the dishes!

Upon my 12th birthday, 50 yrs ago, I was recentful, hurt and so put out that I had to stand alone at the sink of all the 7 member family meal dishes accumulated at the evening super. It seemed like the rest of the family was having so much fun, now that their bellies were full, and joy could be had. And alone, with a mountain of the most lonely of work, ahead of me, until ever so dutifully my chore complete. Yet, recently as I have been living in community, and I wash each dish, cup, and pot from a meal, planted, grown, harvested, prepared and enjoyed by so many passionate hands, giving their service to us all. and there I was taking great care with each utensil and bowl, a great joy, in the solitude and service that I now give as a maturing adult, grandmother and member of something invented as a family style meal, I smile at the distance between recentment and contrubution appreciated, and I am satisfied, with a task worth adoring.

This little film was so beautiful. Such a simple sweetness. I actually love washing dishes, but I am not always completely present. I will remember this film now whenever I am at the sink. Thank you.

I have a dishwasher where I currently live....lol...but in the house I will be moving to, the dishwasher is broken. I seriously was considering even before seeing this to just hand wash the dishes instead of using money I really don't have to buy a new one. The dishwasher, while a convenience, is not a necessity and who knew I can use the time washing as a time of reflection and meditation.
