I’m glad that I took time out of my day to make the post on social media and call to Summit Racing that got this ball rolling. I think Summit definitely did a good job trying to correct the wrong as well as a multi million dollar company could. Auto parts industry is a shambles. UTG and Car Wizard have discussed proliferation of brand new, non-oem parts failing shortly after installation, out of spec or DOA right out of the box. It comes down to lack of exposure and publicity. Keep spreading the word n increasing the awareness.

Summit has to care because thats the main reason I buy there and not ebay or amazon. I buy from summit to avoid counterfit since they are "reputable". If they get a reputation from selling counterfeits, they are no better than amazon or ebay.

You do know eBay doesn’t make or sale parts right and Summit sells on eBay the exact same stuff but for a few bucks cheaper than their website. Most large companies have eBay stores. eBay is simply an online mall. Rather you buy from Payless Shoes or Nike is up to you on what product you get.

Absolutely well said. I agree everything you said 100%. and the fact that you made this update video on how Summit responded, I have mad respect for you brother. Summit is a great company that makes mistakes just like any company. But they have a track record for making things right. I use to hate Summit, They almost put me out of business. long story, and it involves me also being involved in Amateur Radio (Ham Radio). But when I posted my concerns about it on social media, and was having a conversation about it on Ham Radio one evening, Summit reached out and actually helped us out. Summit is actually all about American owned small business. Summit started small, so they respect small business. Paul D. Sergi, Sr. was the original founder & CEO of Summit, It started in a basement, and Summits story is fascinating. Paul Sergi was also the founder and original CEO of DX Engineering, a Ham radio equipment and parts company that is also a US company and still thriving today and still a part of Summit. Point is...Summit IS still a U.S. owned company and the current CEO is Scott Peterson. Paul Sergi was still actively involved with the company in 2021 and as far as I know he still is. Anyway as of now Summit IS USA owned.

My standpoint is really simple, BUY AMERICAN MADE. The drive for just as good for less is the real issue, I won't buy anything from the copiers of American products, Speedmaster filled a market gap created by the *as good for less mindset*, and the Covid years made it worse, I'm not upset with any vendor filling a gap, but be honest and do the right thing. We have the capability to manufacture any product from overseas and do it better, But are people willing to pay the price? I will in a heartbeat. As for Summit not knowing what's in boxes, that's self-explaining if your familiar with acquisitions vs purchaser's vs warehousing vs shipping, It's no surprise, a product was presented to buy, the numbers looked good and the deal was done, then mdse was shipped and warehoused, there was no reason to check until as in this case a red flag was raised and summit did the right thing and addressed it, Summit is still an American single owned company. Support them, they have a lot on the line to supply the hobby and it wouldn't be a far stretch due to economy to become an investor owned like Jegs to possibly foreign owned company.

It's been years since I've bought anything from jegs but I bought their house brand headers and off road y pipe for my 94 f150. The headers were pace setter. The headers had the pace setter tag on them and were in a pace setter box. They were several hundred $$ cheaper if I remember right. I think the y pipe just came in a plain white box. I wouldn't be surprised if they bought it off ebay and sold it to me. The details are a tad fuzzy at this point. I think I built that truck in 08 or 09. I do remember the headers fit great.

Jay you rock man, and i appreciate you making products here in the USA brotha !!! I couldnt find that summit or jegs are not American owned but jegs is now owned by a global rich company greebriar equity. They usually are shady and scrap american manu. for cheaper to make more profit. Same happended to moog, yukon, monroe shocks, and sadly the last one they aquired is fel-pro. There is more. The 3 biggest auto parts companies in US are now global companies and located on 5th ave, in NYC. I believe they gutted all once USA manu. and made parts cheaper immediately and will destroy any value they once had.

@mrd.808 The main players in this messy scenario are Summit, Speedmaster and of course Broader. I don’t believe Jegs is directly involved unless something has changed recently. Summit seems to be trying to do right by Jay by acknowledging the fact that Speedmaster was indeed involved in deceptive business practices by milling copies of a popular Broader transbrake valve body and boxing them in Speedmaster packaging and then distributing the bogus parts to American aftermarket vendors like Summit. Summit responded by immediately removing all Speedmaster brands from their inventories and online. Those facts were outlined in a Summit statement posted on RU-vid. Jays original stream compared his genuine part to the bogus parts where he clearly pointed out the obvious differences in the two products. The biggest slap in the face was how they went too far by using the Broader name brand on the cheap imitation without any official authorization or consent to do such a blatant violation. Jay was clueless about the ripoff until he was contacted by a customer complaining that his valve body was hung up in one gear. All of this is described by Jay in his previous streams. There’s also the potential problem of a valve body malfunction causing erratic operation during a high speed pass at WFO throttle and the possible loss of control on the drag strip. I’ve seen similar situations where the transmission problem ended up with the car rolling multiple times and landing upside down. It was a bad scene. The number of predators called lawyers that live for this shit to happen is enough to cause nausea 🤮🤮🤮. Hopefully all parties involved in this matter will agree to agree and allow Jay to focus on his livelihood and keep moving forward with business as usual. It’s a major distraction, especially for honest small business owners 🇺🇸.

I'm still hoping speedmaster will do the right thing but I'm not holding my breath. On to plan b ......
@danielwilson6665
@danielwilson6665 Месяц назад
@@BroaderPerformance Jay you will surely pass out if you hold your breath that long. Your patience is commendable but if you haven’t gotten a clear response from Speedmaster about their intentions by now, you might need to start warming up plan B. I became aware of Speedmaster many years ago when their alloy heads for the Ford 351 Cleveland engine first became available. Unlike now, the choices were limited for alloy 351 heads back then and the low price made them seem like a good deal. One of those too good to be true deals. Well as it turned out it really was too good. They looked almost identical to the new Edelbrock 351C, 2-V aluminum heads made by Edelbrocks American foundry. But the sub standard casting and machining issues were clearly evident. Just another product made by unskilled laborers employed by the Chinese manufacturing giant. Now it appears that Speedmaster has expanded their cylinder head product line to include copies of a well known and respected Australian head manufacturer. Just another example of many involving legitimate companies that make quality products having to deal with the bad business practices of others. And the beat goes on… Jay in a twisted perspective it must feel good to know your small business produces a product so superior that a huge company will steal the name and design then sell it as their own. But when their cheap quality hurts your good reputation and steals money from your pocket, you have every right to be mad as hell !

I was in the drag racing business for almost 10 years. Originally, I thought Summit and Jegs were about the same size. After I did some research, I found that Jegs was very much smaller than Summit but had probably the best marketing guy I've ever run across who was able to keep Jegs' name out there to an amazing extent where both looked the same. That may explain the difference in the responses (one can afford to do the right thing and one can't) but the new investment capital thing throws that out the window. You are exactly right that the new management only looks at one thing - the bottom line - and it doesn't matter to them how they get there. I've had intellectual property stolen from me, so I could not support you more in your effort to make people simply be honest. What a shame that's even something we have to work at.

I hate to say it, but you caught them all with their pants down. It wouldn't have gotten to this point if you didn't come across it. Companies should know what's in their boxes as that is the face of the company. The problem is most don't care. You said it yourself, "Why?". Why would you go back to providing parts from a company that has been known to pirate someone else's product? Because as you stated, there's more money in the product than dealing with the problem and putting an end to it. That tells you all you need to know.

I worked in a plant that made automotive parts for the O.E. manufacturers and there were many parts that failed to pass Q.C. inspections for slight blemishes or other non crucial defects sold to "aftermarket" companies that would do their own Q.C. inspections and perform repairs if needed then rebrand the product to be sold under their label. I think there is a lot of confusion that stems from that and people probably think those parts are knock offs as well but it is all legit and above board.

Speedmaster probably won’t do anything. They sell 6/71 blowers and have gotten in trouble because they were putting TBS stickers on them. 4 years later they’re still doing it 😂. Here in Australia all speedmaster products come directly out of their wearhouse called Sydney speed supplies or atracing world (previously procomp) There would be no chance getting a refund as it’s not going through a 3rd party who cops the change

First, sorry that you and other companies have had this happen to you. One way to solve it.... And this goes out to everybody! Think election if there are good people left to vote for, and also think of how you spend your money and the other companies "green-frier" might own ( which is on their web site by the way ) including Jeg-s and either pay for these companies goods or services OR MAYBE NOT. That will make a difference good or bad. Losing money will hurt greedy, non caring companies since that is all some companies care about it. It is my opinion that the "big G" investment folks might not give $.02 about the right thing or good thing to do without being shown the way. Don't take the easy road, take the high road and start using the little influence you all have by how you spend your money even if it's harder to do business without the money hungry, crooked, conglomerates that control things. Summit is at least doing a pretty good turn around. They are alone in making things right it seems. Keep that in mind as well.

More important than where something is made are who designed it and where that company's headquarters is. It's the Chinese business decision makers that are causing the IP problems and producing crap. If a product is designed in the US by a US company, and manufactured in China, then the business decisions are made in the US and the product will almost certainly be required to meet US style quality control specs or be rejected when delivered. Not a big problem there. Of course it would be best to be manufactured in the US too, but that's a different problem with a different solution. When products are designed (or counterfeited) in China by a Chinese company, there's a very good chance nobody cares what the quality level is. There are probably no QC or QA protocols or even any prototype testing.

When I worked as a bicycle mechanic my boss bought a vice from harbor freight that looked exactly like that one. It took a lot longer to bolt it down than it took me to break it. Once it was ready to go I put a freewheel tool in it, sat the wheel into the tool and jerked it to break the freewheel (gears attached to the rear wheel) loose and shattered the vice. The boss was furious. I don't know why he was mad at me. I didn't tell him to buy that pos. Those things are porous and brittle.

Do you realize that you are now liable for any and all claims as a result of this. If someone ruins a transmission and thinks it's this part, you get sued. If someone gets hurt because of something related to this you get sued. It is now up to you to defend this and prove that it's not yours. Even if you prove to a jury it's not your part, you may still lose the case and need to pay out. You can lose everything that you have over this... I'd be talking to a big law firm and bringing this to a head. I don't think any lawyer would allow you to speak publicly about this issue. You also need a trademark and apply for a patent Don't go by me, I'm a shop guy, not a lawyer its just my two cents
@GaryH-pw9cm
@GaryH-pw9cm Месяц назад
If you don't have a trademark, there is not much you can do. I have made products before and always used a registered trademark, a serial and model number, plus made in the USA. Trademarks are not difficult to obtain. To copy parts is bad enough, But to use the name of the copied product is just inexcusable and really bad. But some companies don't care. People in China are just making stuff and don't know or care what it is. I would get a trade mark with a serial number and engrave it on every part. Also include made in USA. He really needs to talk to a patent and trademark lawyer and come up with a plan.
