There are some animals and plants, insects, which are specialized to use advantage of burned forest areas and don't really survive without some forest fires. In order to keep those plants and animals and the biodiversity of forests higher, some managed forest fires are used to give them favorable areas for living. Not all forest burning is done to preserve some old agricultural past, there are also other reasons.

Hmm. The real idea of slash and burn was to create new fertile land for growing editable food. It wasn't for growing new trees or flowers. To keep land fertilized, ash from the burned trees was the solution at the time when there was so much forest compared to farmers and no better means to make land fertilizer enough for good harvest.

Did I get your innuendo right? You mentioned walking away from the other people on the island, not having mosquitos troubling you and then you ask what to do... A young couple away from all disturbance, just alone... What might they do😉 And then he answered talking about just walking..😂 Perhaps his response was just for the camera, and you weren't totally disappointed. Perhaps it still went as you had planned, just off camera.
