Excellent video on Calgary. I’ve lived here since early 90s and like to watch videos to see what people say about Calgary. You had a lot of good everyday insights that most people doing videos don’t mention

If you haven’t grown up with hard water, you think it is no big deal but having grown up with soft water and then moved to Calgary, I had major pain and skin issues (flare ups) from the added Calcium in the water here. I eventually installed a portable water softener from a company called “Water Stick” in the states. If you rent it is your best option for the shower, I have more moisturized skin and softer hair (less hair loss) it may help with your hair colour as well. If you own your home you can have a permanent water softener system installed. Water sticks (are worth it) though. Easy to install, and can be regenerated with table salt twice a week. Good luck!

Thanks for the video, Calgary's weather is like a walk in the park if you lived in even colder city like Winnipeg for ten plus years

It's easy! Streets run north-south. Avenues run east-west. When you're in downtown, you just count streets and not have to worry about weird street names.

That white stuff, is called CALCIUM! Calgary’s water is amongst the cleanest in the world. So please do your research properly, and don’t call it chemicals in the water. Hard water just means there is more calcium and magnesium, which are essential minerals that are good for your health. Some municipalities, like where you are from in Southern Ontario, use water softener to get rid of the minerals. I would suggest you look into adding a water softener system to your shower. But again please don’t spread misinformation about the water which is just more natural then the water you’re used too.

Thank you for the information Tyler. The video has a disclaimer that my videos are based by my personal experiences and opinions, as I ask you all to inform me what the "white stuff" was as I have never experienced this before. As many others have not either and may be shocked to see if they experience it also. There is many misinformation that goes around even from local people that have grew up here. Everyone has a different option and outlook. Thanks for the detailed information as myself and others can learn.

I get eczema flair ups less here than before and less migraines. I put vinegar in my kettle when I see buildup. I noticed that people actually stop for pedestrians here. Thank you Calgary. If you don’t like it here you can leave it’s a free country. You could’ve put one positive comment about things he didn’t expect.

These are the things I just didn’t expect when I was there! Sorry you perceived it as negative as it wasn’t intended to be just some stuff that was different then what I had experienced before and others would want to know aswell.

The speeding thing is unfortunate because in Ontario traffic is so bad but in Calgary there’s so much space on the road and I love driving so I thought driving briskly would be great but nope 😂

Block numbers are all in alignment downtown. Walking in Toronto messed me up. They dont line up as neatly, it seems to be why they always give a corner to describe a location ie Queen & Parliament. As for wildlife look outside the city and see how much land is relatively intact. The Bow & Elbow have little development and serve as wildlife corridors.

They don't salt the roads. They wait for chinooks to take care of the ice and snow. Notice the vehicles there don't have rust unlike in other provinces.

Don't forget that winters last 7- 8 months (Snow in August can be really depressing). Also, hailstorms suck. Chinooks suck too, coz gave me massive headaches. Comparing to Toronto, Calgary is really boring. I moved back to Ontario two years ago. The weather is night and day. I still miss the Rockies though

How about the ice rains in Ontario? Horrible thing. Humidity in Ontario is really bad.
@slavzabicki265
@slavzabicki265 2 года назад
@@ruabossy4700 I live in Haldimand now . We don't get ice rains here. Also since we are not by any lake the humidity here is pretty ok. Most people think that Ontario starts and ends with Toronto. Ontario is a big province. Calgary (or Alberta in general) is my home but that doesn't mean it is known from getting awesome weather in general. Winters suck in Calgary and the brown landscapes are quite depressing to some. Also don't forget that income wise not every profession pays better in Alberta. My income tax is $1k less per person now comparing to my deductions back in Alberta. That also applies to utility bills. My monthly totals are around $370 for natural gas, water/sewer, and electricity. Before I moved here I paid around $500 a month back in Calgary (3 y ago to be precise). I still miss the Rockies since I'm not a cottage person and I love hiking.

@@slavzabicki265 I see, thanks for the information. I have never heard of Haldimand, I used to live in Ottawa and though winter was not that bad on my taste, ice rains or freezing rains and humidity was horrible. Ottawa btw is not by the lake either. Having said that, I prefer Ottawa's charm.

is not that confuse about NW SW NE SE. Calgary is base on quadrant system. The Calgary Tower is the center of Calgary.

People that aren’t from the area get quite confused about the quadrant system and how the streets work. Most cities/countries don’t really use this method but yes you’re correct the Calgary tower is on centre street which is in the centre of Calgary and divides up the quadrants. Cheers

@@Channel8eight Just did a cross country move to Calgary from Ontario. Yes, the weather's unpredictable and there's definitely more wildlife in the city but you kinda get used to it. Nightlife here is definitely more low key compared to the bigger Canadian cities but LA and Las Vegas are just a short 2-3 hour flight away if you want to go all out on the weekend. Overall, I like it here, definitely a better quality of life as the cost of living is a fraction of Toronto's or Vancouver's and the food scene is definitely better than I expected.

Nice job! From you experience, how many days in average the temperature drops below -20 in winter? For example, in Ottawa it can be 1 week in January and 1 week in February, but most winter the temp is -13 in average.
@patricialing
@patricialing 2 года назад
It can vary, last winter it was about 5 weeks and my first winter here it was literally 1 week total. Of course it’s not consistent it’s throughout the winter season. We do get the chinooks so most of the time it will be that temp for a little bit then warm up during the day and cooler at night. The cold is very different from Ontario cold though. Very dry here and humid there, so if you wear layers here you won’t feel as cold as Ontario
