The way I see it the Type R is definitely more of a track focused version while the new Type S looks like a more “luxury” version. I’d take whichever one has less markups here in the Bay Area🤦🏽♂️
I've been watching your videos to help me out with my purchase plans for a Type R. Thanks so much! I grew up in Alexandria, lived right off of Franconia-Springfield Parkway. It was my dream to cruise on the parkway in some kind of sick JDM car when I was a kid - even though Fairfax County PD was super stingy about 50MPH on there. I was all about the NSX and the Lancer Evo back then. Fast forward to today; Living in SoCal now and I picked up a new 2024 FL5 Type R in SoCal for a 5K markup. Sticker price was 61k. I don't think I'm moving back to my hometown, but man I would love to drive around my old stomping grounds with my new Type R. Thanks again for the FL5 videos and nostalgia, keep it up! I'm now eyeing the AWE Track or APEX'i N1 (love those tips!)
Hey If one wishes to nitpick let’s look at the seats. Not heated,no electronic adjustment, no leather yet the reviews often say the best seats ever bar none. Love the fact that the rear seats are so basic, no air vents,no charging ports. Why? Keeps cost down and what you get with all it’s many “failings” is a hot hatch with peerless stick, suspension, feel like no others before it. I love that the car is so quiet as I’m a lover of stealth cars.Well yes perhaps a stick Porsche is in the same ball park but at what cost? Oh what a civic.
As an ex FK8 owner I get all those things you are speaking to. I switched up to a Cadillac CT4 V Blackwing. Definitely wanted the creature comforts along with the track abilities. You can always flip it into something else if you end up wanting more. Type Rs keep their value.
Appreciate your comment Camron. I did consider the CT4V Blackwing as well but didn't know how much maintenance was going to be. Hopefully she's treating you well!
@normacbenito any thoughts so far considering already passed 6m? I was back and forth between ct4v bw vs type s and end up going w the type s.....wondering if would have been a better choice the BW...so far beyond happy w the type s however something feels a bit "slow" vs the bw but on the other side safety/reliability and resale value seems a bit better than the bw...again just a lot of thoughts right now knowing ~65k you should get a ton more....
So far, maintenance has been quite easy. Just oil changes. I will say modifying will be much easier to do in a type s then it will in a BW. I feel like more folks are working on the type r and type s platform vs the bw with only one group working on it. I still love the car, all though I am finding that I had more smiles and hooliganism with the type r. Bw is super refined. I ended up joining an auto club earlier this year and the BW has been an absolute joy when driving spirited. When you aren’t it feels like a regular luxury car and kinda boring.
in time, you can grab parts off an Integra A-spec to fix a lot of the issues you are having. Rear view mirror? grab the one from the A-spec integra, Sunglass holder?, grab the one from a wrecked Integra A-spec. If you want the rear view mirror with the buttons you can program to open garage doors. Those you can get off the accords or RDX/MDXes. also the Integra A-spec come with USB Type C and USB A. and these all should fit the FL5
I couldn’t agree more with your sentiment. I had an fk8 and ended up missing a lot of the creature comforts. I am considering an integra type s. The dealership near me said online ordering opens 5/11 but could be sooner.
Just got my sgp #5423 3 days ago! I can definitely agree with you about most of the stuff you said. Engine noise, rev match, road noise. Wish they used more empty slots
My list of items would be no heated steering wheel no heated seats and no lower lumbar support and also a softer setting for the active dampers. I did see that there is a kit that you can install to disable the active dampers and from one of the videos on RU-vid the car road a lot better for states that have rough roads
imo the Type S is better suited for people who only do street things, like myself, even acura mentions this in the promo lol, though im biased because i have an a spec 6mt integra myself the higher msrp+ohio production+less desirable name+nicer dealer experience should quell some of the markups but we shall see. we should be glad both options exist though, cuz Acura could have easily just given us another crossover instead
Competition is only good for the consumers. Hopefully Acura wants to maintain their luxury image and limit dealers on the markups. Thanks for watching!
@@jamie-alexander6247 yeah the clutch is lighter than my fit, but im slowly getting used to it. Gives me an excuse to rev out the engine more when about to take off lol
the speed limit monitor being off may be due to the camera get them to aim it under warranty. i work at honda and have seen this issue with odyssey sometimes itll show 100mph speed limits in a 25.
I paid 37500 for my 21 fk8 and I couldn’t be happier the 23 is a covid special, also just put down a deposit on a 24 type s today, don’t even know the price, 5500 over msrp 🤷🏻♂️ I’m excited tho
This is all stuff you should've realized before purchasing the car.. FK8 or FL5, there really isn't a way to make these cars sound great.. I had an FK8 with the Martellius exhaust out of Finland and it just sounded like any old turbo 4 with a CBE.. Just meh.. The best part of these CTR's are the motor, shifter (especially with an acuity short shifter), and seats.. Everything else is standard Civic, which has been the recipe for a 'Type R' (Civic/Teggy/Accord) for eons now.. Not sure what you were expecting out of this car, lol.. If you want a more luxurious, feature laden, experience, you'll have to go used or spend more money.. I went with a two car setup.. Older Cayman S (I got lucky with this find.. PCA board member and same shop has been working on it since 2014) and a beater.. about $8k cheaper than one of these..
Hi Andre, thanks for watching! These were all stuff I expected from the car. A few of these things were just me nitpicking 😂. Some of the exhaust clips I've heard from other manufacturers have sounded quite good imo. Hopefully they sound good in person as well. Hopefully that Cayman S is treating you well!
@@turbo_tin Sure thing! I appreciate the POV style (a la TheTopher and Tedward).. Too many people think we want to see them instead of the car.. Only females can really get away with that, lol.. She is! Easily the best driving car I've owned.. here's my 'body' count for reference.. E39 M5, FoST, FiST, FK8 CTR, Mk7.5 GTI, STI Type RA, Challenger Scatpack Manual, MS3, MS6, CRX Si, to name a few.. I hope you enjoy the FL5.. depending on how long you keep it, you'll probably still make money on it, lol..
@@turbo_tin LOL! More power to you, but that's more than double the CTR.. even if you go with the 4banger (don't go with the 4 banger.. performance P-cars should have 6 cylinders). Edit: unless you're talking about a 981 Cayman GTS.. those are around $80k and tickling $90k..
Weird packaging through out the world, Europe got rain sensor, PDC auto dimming mirror, alcántara steering wheel, but no BOSE sound system. In my county (Latin America) I do get BOSE sound system, Alcantara steering wheel, Alcantara rear seats and a spare tire! But no rain sensor, auto mirror or pdc😂
You sir, just steered me away from spending 50k+. I think my s2000 will suffice as a rough riding non amenity fun honda, while I get something just as fun but more luxurious in that price range lol
None of these were any serious complaints, just little things imo. He keeps going in on the price, but tbh which car goes as fast around the nurburgring that's cheaper than the fl5? The car is a bargain for the performance.
Still a nice car is tru on the price but my EVO don’t have any of that and is the nice one the X it was a 35k plus car back when new. But still gone to get one FL5 like you want mine on red or white.
@@turbo_tin as an Elantra N owner the styling is definitely subjective but the interior quality is surprising once you actually experience it and I’d argue that it’s on the same level or very slightly under the type R’s after test driving the new FL5
@@devo6704 the Elantra N puts up similar and better track number’s depending on the driver and transmission. And paying 20k which is basically the cost of some cheap brand new cars just for reliability is ridiculous considering the Elantra N isn’t an unreliable car.
Recently KBB has been offering trade in value of elantra N’s around 30-34k depending. Which is pretty much at MSRP. Couple months ago I tried KBB I got offered 24k lmaooo. Market conditions are changing ofc but goes to show that elantra N’s are holding their value now.
FK8 is more unique for its time than the FL5. The FL5 now has the Integra Type S as it's own competition. FK8 weighs less than both. Even with the added power of the FL5 we all know it was due to the tuning of the ECU, since it's the same engine.
You are totally right it has a bit more power it’s heavier ,but fk8 is unique and has the looks of a real track focust car even the new acura integra has a better track focust car look than the fl5 Honda when to the extreme making the new type r look like any regular car
The release of the new Acura Integra Type S has just SMASHED every single owner of an FL5 TypeR................... Used prices for FL5's will now skyrocket downwards.....like who really wants an expensive Civic with only option bright read seats, bright red carpets, bright red seatbelts, not even a manual handbrake, and not even a sporty sounding engine/exhaust.
I'm not a fan for red interiors, so Elantra N is nicer. Plus those N seat that light-up looks wicked. When I put 200k on mine, I suspect the Korean will be the true bargain. It's time for Honda to be dethroned as the choice for grassroot drivers.
You truly have a problem with always thinking your cars are always the star. Never staying on the car in question but always bringing in a car your own. At least now you're moving away from your BASE Civic and BASE Camry trying to claim they're the pinnacle of FWD handling. Sticking to your Kona N and now getting a Elantra N... at least those handle a lot better. Doesn't matter that they'll fall apart by the 200k you're worried about since you have zero long term experience with the brand or those vehicles. But again... ALWAYS must interject what you buy and always thinking it's your cars that are the star.. truly self centered mindless posting you do incessantly (and why anyone who sees your posts know most of what cars your own).
