Smoothies! In NYC, they’re around $7-10+ and they are so easy and cheap to make on your own. Used to treat myself to one after each workout and it just added up so fast 😬

Everything in your list! What you are going through right now I went through my freshman year of college. Something I would add would be takeout when hanging out with friends. Our friend groups activities seem to revolve around food. My husband and I will now plan to hang out with them outside of mealtimes, OR we will ahead of time coordinate for someone to cook. It ends up being way more fun, and we all split the cost of the groceries.
@KyleePicc

Also if I have to use the phrase “I’m treating myself,” it PROBABLY means I am in denial and will regret spending the money later. I have found that catching myself with that has saved a 💩 ton of money.

Just want to say I have been watching your channel for a while and love your videos. You remind me of what I was like in my early-mid 20s ! I was working in Toronto and was similar to you - I engaged in the frivolous shopping especially at Artizia/Toronto boutique stores, happy hour drinks, $5 lattes 3-4/week, $20 Poke Bowls, and expensive dining experienced. As you grow older and wiser which I think you are going through now, you learn from your past mistakes and can make better finance decisions. Now I make coffee at home (try pour over) and only go for lattes once in a while. I also try to cook at home and fancy meals are for special occasions. Also if you are like me and use to shop alot, clothes you may have a gotten a while back may be trendy again and sometimes you forget you had those items and its fun to style it with something current! Also what has helped me is budgeting every month and sticking to a regimented investing/savings schedule. Keep it up and cant wait to see your channel grow 😀

i love listening to you talk! we’re at such similar phases of life. i stopped going into grocery stores altogether and that helped a ton. Pickup at Kroger is free where i live, so I’m able to create my list ahead of time and get exactly what I need and I can see the total price before i checkout. no more throwing stuff in the cart last minute or thinking to myself “well i COULD start eating granola” lmao

Thank you for being so vulnerable about your finances! I also started my journey by watching channels like Graham Stephan, but you are so much more relatable! A middle 20s girl with a normal job just cannot relate to Graham or other millionaires, though they have good advice. I love relating to your struggles and also being proud of the accomplishments. It's really been fun and you have been inspiring to me lately!! P.S. I have been into investing recently, would be happy to watch videos about your journey with that too :) I'm currently using index funds as a kind of "savings" account that earns more "interest" than my bank, would love to know if you are doing something similar. Thanks, from your neighbor in Minnesota :)
@ZoePritchard
@ZoePritchard 2 года назад
Wow thank you so much! I also started with Graham Stephan, and can totally relate to your comment. The man is inspiring but also too extreme for me in some cases... As for the index funds, I've been doing the exact same as you! In Canada we have a tax free savings account, which can be invested. I put money into that occasionally to get that interest. At the moment though, I'm mostly saving for my emergency fund. I'm planning a walk-through video of all my savings and investments soon 💖

I love these ideas/suggestions, always good to reflect Zoey, thanks for the inspo. As for me, I no longer buy anything I can’t afford based on our budget. I no longer buy anything I don’t have a place for. I no longer buy seasonal decor. I no longer buy anything that will get me into debt. I also no longer follow or access accounts or apps that trigger me to buy stuff I don’t need, I’ve unsubscribed from many emails and accounts on Instagram/RU-vid.

Love this video and so proud to see your growth! I honestly think your transparency is SO courageous as most people are not willing to be honest with their finances. Also you share many of the struggles many of us face in our twenties, especially as women. I'm trying to be intentional with smaller purchases/spending (I'm pretty good with big things like my car was $2-3k paid in cash). I've recently cut out takeaway coffees, alcohol because its gross & expensive (I used to drink to fit in), acrylic/gel nails (still do a mani/pedi every other month or two), UBER EATS / macca's run's and any other small purchases. Even though I'm decent at saving and automatically pay myself, when I'm stressed my spending is shit show. I'm trying to be more intentional and want to splurge on things I'll enjoy for years (handbags, travel, good quality pieces etc). Keep the content coming

I find it so interesting that we're about the same age but our vices are so different, or at least the reasons are different. I definitely was spending way too much at the grocery store, but I found that going less often saves me more money because that's less chances to add extra items to my cart. I love to cook and do a lot of meal prepping, so food waste isn't really an issue for me; it's more so pre-buying stuff super far out or buying something on a whim. My other big vice is books (I have two entire bookshelves full), but I'm hoping a lack of physical space to put another bookshelf will slow me down lol.

Completely agree with you on all of these. I’ve always done my own pedicures because I’m ticklish lol, but had to start doing my own nails years ago after having to end a period of NINETY DOLLAR full set 💅🏾 refills 🤦🏾‍♀️ y’all! Wtf lol The grocery one is particularly poignant - I used to spend $150 or more every couple of weeks stocking my fridge and the exact same thing would happen - so much waste because of lack of planning, forgetting about things, or just sheer laziness (and resorting to the dreaded food delivery or eating out 🥴). I had to think about it - I spend a lot of extra rent $ to live in the area I do, which includes being within blocks of SEVERAL quality grocery stores. So now I just go to the store every day or every couple days to get exactly what I plan on making that day. Works out way better and I’m only spending at most $30 per trip, which ends up being way less than the biweekly hauls and soooo much less waste

Some things I don’t spend money on/ will find means to save on: 1. clothes For me personally, I like to buy a couple pieces every season from tjmaxx / target that are simple and can wear for years. However, I don’t really shop the clearance sections anymore due to the fact that I always bought things just because they were on sale. 2. Alcohol, I barely drink to begin with, so I mainly buy one bottle of wine every other month. 3. Hair cuts / coloring My neighbor is a hairstylist so I’m able to get the coloring and trim I want at a fraction of the price. 4. Nails , they have always been something I do myself. However, I do love my monthly pedicures. 5. Coffee, I’m not a coffee drinker so I definitely save a lot in that area of life. 6. Home decor / furniture, I’m artistic so I like to paint / draw stuff and frame it!! For furniture, I bought most of it from Marketplace since they’re nearly perfect and is wicked cheap. 7. Public transportation, I live in the suburbs of Boston so I try to take public transportation whenever I can 8. One place in my life I splurge on is getting a housekeeper. She comes every other week for 3 hours and that is time I spend walking my dog, going to the gym or even playing my video games 9. Library, I like to go to the library for discounted museum passes and of course, free books! 10. Brown bagging lunches, I save so much money by just bringing breakfast and lunch to work

hehe i love your videos because it makes me reflect & inspires me to check on the heath of my own personal finance!! happy these worked for you ♡ something i cut out a couple of years ago was uber. especially in the winter (pre-covid), if i didn't want to take public transport, i'd... call an uber! i'd take it a few times a week, so i started small by only letting myself call an uber once a week, then once a month, and now, never! covid helped too, but by then i was barely using it. another thing is bubble tea! i think drinks like coffees, teas, & smoothies can fall under this category too. for me, i'd order it multiple times a week, but like uber, i limit myself to a drink a week (max). my wallet (& sugar composition) improved quite a bit!!! :')

I like the convenience of Amazon, makes it easy to get stuff that I have no desire to drive to the store to get. I do agree with you though, that same making it easy to get stuff without going to the store is the same thing that makes it easy to order stuff you weren't sure about to begin with so you end up with more stuff then you "went shopping" for.

I feel that, more than anything, two things: 1. Have a budget and 2. Be realistic. What’s the famous phrase? Having a budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went! With a budget, I know, for example, ok, I get $100 a month to blow on Amazon things I don’t need, or I get $150 this month to blow on buying lunch. With the pandemic, since I work from home 100% of the time, there’s really no need for me to eat out so when I do, it’s rare. Regarding being realistic, if you tell yourself you’re not going to have any fun at all and this is the way it’s going to be for the next five years, you’re going to not only set yourself up for failure, you’ll be miserable while doing so. So I’d rather just say, look, $150 a month for Uber Eats and according to my budget, I can afford that. I think that’s the better way to go.
@ZoePritchard
@ZoePritchard 2 года назад
great point!! what i wanted to get across with this video is that these are things that have totally fallen out of my budget, and I don’t even miss them. So while I could arrange my budget to allow for useless Amazon stuff, that stuff no longer serves me at all. :)

One thing I proud of is the reduction of my purchase of produce like makeup, products for the hair etc. These days, I don't buy clothes unless I really need to. I will try not to buy any summer clothes. I have eveything I need. I rarely buy from Amazon, I guess that help.

Hi!! I just made an Amazon list with all of the stuff I would put in my starter kit :) Here is the link: a.co/avNOkc2 (you don't need these brands, I chose ones on Amazon for simplicity but you could buy similar products at any beauty supply store)

Things I haven’t been buying: new makeup and skincare. Also I’ve really simplified these two routines. I’m okay having drugstore makeup and Cerave skincare. I also used to buy so many toys for my dog. Now much less. I also sewed back together one of my dog’s favourite plushiest. The stitching looks awful but my dog dgaf. I will say I have started getting my nails done. I hate doing my own nails 😅. I’m getting my first fill tomorrow. I don’t think I’ll do it each month though. And I have been getting a lot of haircuts because I’ve been growing out my pixie cut for more than a year and that’s a process. I’m getting married so I want my hair to be even ☺️. I also don’t really eat out. My fiancé is still really nervous about restaurants so we really rarely go.

Uber period is nuts...lol...i have a set budget of 40.00 cdn for takeout for 3 people. We go and pick it up..lol. This is once a week only. Due to the rising costs currently I may do this every other week. You've progressed immensely Zoe. It's been great watching your vlogs every week. Keep up the great work kiddo. Love seeing Maggie in the vlogs too she was so funny today..lol

this makes me feel so bad...I used to be so so good with budgeting and not spending... I was cheap as **hell** Not that that's good, but it helped me build savings over the years. I feel that I've really slipped up recently. I find myself making a bunch of useless purchases...Digging into my savings a LOT. Specifically fragrances. I got literally 7 new perfumes in two months. I don't even wear them, I just like to keep them. But honestly... So ever since Zara came out with their new perfumes, its been a habit of mine to pick one every time I go. it's easily 30$ every single time. I think I've been spending loads out of boredom and I'm a student (not working currently). So I keep seeing my bank account go down as I pay for mandatory stuff ( CPA fees, uni, books, travel) and then since I feel bad about that, I reward myself with other stuff I don't need (Like sweets and clothing and perfume.) I just don't know what to do seriously

I've saved a ton of money by making cocktails at home. Obviously that's far from being a necessity, but food and drink are two of my greatest pleasures in life, so that's money well spent to me. With a SodaStream that I got for free from a friend, a couple of bottles that'll last a whole year, a $3 bag of discount limes a week, I can make a drink for a tiny fraction of what it'd cost at a restaurant and get to enjoy the process as a hobby. It also makes me way less inclined to spend money drinking when I do go out, because I immediately think about how I could recreate it at home.

OMG YESSS they really hiked up the prices on UberEats! It used to be my go-to "treat yourself" thing, but it just got way too expensive and it racks up so quickly. Not to mention the amount of DISAPPOINTMENT if your food wasn't as good as usual that day 🙄 I also learnt that a lot of those videos for "AMAZON THINGS YOU NEED" were people trying to get money from affiliate marketing so I try to scroll past it the second I see one 😂 some of them are so random, I saw a 100$ ✨electric garbage can✨... A GARBAGE CAN... LIKE WHAT?!?!? although I still splurge on my hair, it's the only "beauty" thing I allow myself to spend on after cutting out nails and makeup 😅

i know i know!! you need 1. pure acetone & 2. a buffing tool. Split a cotton ball in two, soak in acetone, wrap around nail with tin foil. After 5-10 minutes remove that and buff / file, then put it back. It’s annoying but the same process as the salon ✨

I came across your site by chance and I thought I would respond. I am several generations older than you so my viewpoints are colored, perhaps, by age. As I understand it, you recently were laid off from your job and are sharing your financial decisions that have been forced upon you. I am assuming that while you have a stash of cash, you are not independently wealthy and need to work to sustain your life style (or any life style) And congrats on paying off your student loans! At the risk of inflicting "financial shame", I am shocked at what I am hearing. As with many people, I have been in your situation. The thought of going out to restaurants (much less having it delivered) would not have occurred to me. Certainly no new clothes while I am not working. Expensive trips to the salons would not happen. Nothing bought on the internet. In other words, total financial lock down. Hopefully, you are making some money from RU-vid. But until you get a full time job, eat noodles and wear your old clothes. And don't celebrate the fact that you are no longer buying plants! +
