I'm an old Aussie guy, married to a Filipina lola in Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao. I know all these things and am not shocked. I've lived for most of the last six years here. One of her sister's says "My hands is a washing machine", and she is certainly right. I usually wear as little as possible around the house to minimize laundry. I absolutely love using tabo, and I never use bathroom tissue. During the pandemic, people in Australia and the USA were going crazy trying to stock up on bathroom tissue, even fighting over it in the supermarkets! I just laughed and used my tabo here. Our shower is broken, but even when it worked, I preferred tabo both for bathing and cleaning my butt after using the toilet. Yes, I use my hands ha ha ha! I was in Australia for the first nine months of this year, and never felt that my butt was clean there. I don't always use my hands only to eat, but if I use utensils, it is always "kutsara ug tinidor". Any laundry I do I hang "sa gawas sa mga hanger sa hayhayan". I cook on a gas stove hooked up to a bottle of propane "sa kusina". When I go out to the tindahan to buy things, I always use my "payong" to keep the sun or rain off. As you may have guessed, I can speak conversational Bisaya, and understand a lot of Tagalog as well. Oh, and I love to sing videoke in many languages! I love the simplicity of life here. I don't use air-con at all, even at night going to sleep. I enjoy the consistently warm weather, and if I'm sweaty, my tabo is always waiting!

Awhh. I’m glad you have already adapted to Filipino’s culture. Thank you! 😚

It was somewhat shocking, but I wasn't bothered by it. There is a different way of doing things there and that is how it is. When we travel back to see my wife's family, we always pack a little light and pay someone for laundry. The thing that surprises me is that outdoor drying could be consistently effective given all the rainfall. As a redhead, I can totally understand the sun umbrella, but Westerners do not care about whiteness in your complexion.

When I was growing up[1970s] in California, My Grandmother still had a Washboard & Tub in the Garage. That's what she used before my Grandfather bought their first Washing Machine.

I still have the wash board. It’s different but gets the job done.

G'ma made sure I knew how to Hand Wash clothes before I was 10. I don't have a Wash Board, but there are catalogs that cater to Amish & Mennonites I could use to get a good one. @@mdjones905

In general Thailand and the Philippines are regarded as the place for sex tourism by most people. That will never change. Even decent girls are subjected to scrutiny.

@@MrPekarce yeah I got that but she also said that lots of people own washing machines and chose not to use them, please pay attention, with all due respect. P.S. that's the part I was commenting to.

@@knighttemplar5387fillos like to have materialistic things like a big tv,washing machine BUT believe me they dont use it at all or it is broken they like to show off and lead people on thinking they are cashed up when clearly that isnt the case.
