I think this will hurt Mercari. The seller doesn't exist without the buyer and Ebay is direct competition to them. When something is more expensive on Ebay I would go to Mercari, but now I may not even use Mercari much because of the extra fees.
Mercari turned to complete shit after the new TOS, noticed my first two purchases since the fees and cost where so high a $60 item turned to 80 ish and a $20 item turned to almost $35 which is just insane, so most def won’t be buying anymore on that platform til something gets changed for buyers. eBay will be my only go to as of now as FB Marketplace is nearly dead for retro goods in my area atleast. Mercari was the only way to get a decent deal on some stuff and now that’s been stripped away. Unfortunate.
Definitely will go back to eBay, half these ppl are resellers that got the item for dirt cheap at a thrift store and are posting it for $$$ don’t think the buyer should front everything, I’d be down for 50/50 tho
No definitely not 50/50 maybe 60/40 at most as a seller you have to test the item, clean it, if it doesn’t work you might have to invest in it to be able to sell it that all takes time
As far as I know, Mercari has many sellers but not many buyers. Making the fees go on the buyers will shrink the buyer base. Whoever is making these decisions at Mercari, really shouldn't be making these kinds of decisions.
As someone with a decent UMD collection I can tell you that, yea they can be fun to collect if you can get them dirt cheap. However they are more or less shelf candy and I rarely actually watch them. They are neat to have though.
Sellers have to account for the processing fees now, i had items listed on mercari for $20 my payout previously was around $14-15 now i dropped my prices to $15 so i can still receive the same amount and at the same time the buyer is going to still pay more then they would have had to previously
Just checked a few recent mercari purchases. Almost 10% added on purchases as service and payment processing fees. I’ll no longer be using mercari, and will be deleting app as a result.
I took down all my listing no buyer in their right mind will pay all the extra fees . What did it for me was the return for any reason. Going to open a cesspool of scammers.
In terms of hand held consoles that allowed video playback, the GBA I think was the first in the USA. Don't think they had full length movies though. In terms of a portable device that allows you to watch full length movies, portable Video CD players were first, though they didn't catch on in the USA because they were very expensive when initially available and DVD came on to the market just a few years later.
So far my Mercari sales haven't hurt. Six items since Saturday night. But then again I sell high end collectables and collectors will pay top dollar depending on detail and condition of the item.
I've loved Mercari for the past couple years, but I agree this isn't a great idea... I'd rather just have seller fees and people buying still feel like they're getting a value.
I'm not into collecting retro games as much after covid anymore. I collected alot before covid and got my most expensive Sega Saturn game Magic Knight Rayearth. But now its so hard to find good deals in my area anymore. I miss game collecting before coivd.
I dont like this new mercari update at all As a seller and a buyer, sales are slow because the buyer has to pay an extra 10$ in fees my sales are super slow at the moment and most sellers arent dropping their prices at all
bro the fees are crazy on a bundle a while back i payed 67 and there was no processing fee and other dumbass fees and now when i recently purchased a bundle it was 46 came up to 61 LMAO
I’ve never bought something on Mercari but knowing this I don’t have any motivation to check it out. Unless something is significantly cheaper than eBay what’s the point. Add to that the fact eBay had a much larger user base and it’s a no brainer. Also if you like old kung fu movies the best one is Shaolin Wooden Men. Great early Jackie Chan.
I was wondering how Mercari was going to make money. That's huge if the buyers have to pay the final value fees, I guess it's like a "buyers premium" at auctions.
Fist of legend is a classic that twin warriors and the defender Jet li at his prime for sure I love that era and will always watch a good Shaw brothers anytime
It's 2.9%, ,& .50 cent processing fee so lower your price 5 %, or even 7%,,,and you as a seller and the buyer both are gaining from this change. I'm a seller on mercari and I lowered my prices 5-7%, . I'm crushing it since the change. The fees on $50 item were like 8 dollars before. If you make that 50$ item 45. The ,buyer is paying 46.95+tax. And the seller is making a flat 45$.... WIN WIN
yeah it's crazy how now you pay for a "service fee" , a "payment processing fee" now in mercari. and that's not including the taxes and delivery fee if there is one..
It was limited but the gba had a few movies and TV shows on a gba cartridge. Even though they r part of the set pass on the twin movie cartridge. It so bad.
Honestly, folks don’t comprehend how selling operates. Mercari sellers were already passing those fees onto the buyer anyways 😂 now we can lower prices.
AND NOW … ! ! ! … BUYERS CAN RETURN MERCH - NO QUESTIONS ASKED! … Before, it Had to be “Ripped” “Torn” “ Crushed” “Damaged” or NOT as Listed in the Ad … NOW, NO REASON FOR RETURNING NECESSARY
Kiss Of The Dragon is one of my favorites. Speaking of media, Best Buy is done selling blu rays right? We’ll keep your eyes open for their steel books, they will go up in value…help fund your snes addiction.
The game has changed bro....everyone knows about Retro now...u not finding "deals" unless its the PS4 era...which is why Im done collecting old games unless they fall in my lap
This is what happens when you don’t gatekeep your hobbies and keep yapping about it soon as it hits the mainstream that’s when it all goes to shit congrats y’all played yourselves
Seen both already , I already lowered prices to compensate, buyer still entering lower offers cuz of fees and sales have slowed , I’m exiting the game anyway because it’s not a business for me only a hobby but feel sorry for all of you still in it keep goin through changing processes all the time. Best of luck to you all and God bless, don’t over invest your time into this , enjoy life , play the games, and devote time to the Lord our God, his name is Jesus.
It would be hell trying to make this a business with the lack of opportunities to get games for cheap. I'm still finding awesome deals this year alone, but that is probably 3-4 times a month, which makes them special and feels so good lol. I wouldn't do this as a business but I do basically resell what I don't need (consoles bundled with games mostly) and pretty much make my money back, with some profit, and get a free game collection that way.
Hey man if possible I’d love to hear your opinion on my latest video talking about game resellers. If anyone should have a good opinion on the topic it’s probably you! Thanks in advance
Ouch buying snes games in 2024? I gave up buying snes games in 2010. I thought prices were bad then. At the time I remember prices started to skyrocket. I have regrets of not getting certain games back then. Prior to 2010 it was a great time to be buying snes games. I remember going to gamestop in 2002 and they had a bargain bin full of snes games. Games like Mega Man X3 and Ninja Gaiden trilogy were $20. Games like Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger were $5. I bought a shit ton of games. I left them at my grandma's house for my uncle to play. She sold them at a garage sale. I started purchasing snes games again in 2005.
That’s how I was able to acquire most of my collection. Places were discounting nes and snes right before the Wii came out. But, I’ve recently been beefing up my snes mainly just the box, manual, inserts, posters to complete them and it’s expensive just for cardboard, and some of these posters as well.
