As a native englishman I found it quite funny that you said one of the best things about British food is the Indian restaurants 😂 - although I'm not saying I disagree! "Going out for a curry" is something of a family tradition for me. I am curious though - were there any traditional British dishes that you particularly enjoyed?

Maybe it's a regional thing. I had food at few places by Heathrow and all of it was good.

The only "Indian" dish I had was chicken 65 and it was also better than the Indian places in America make it.

Its always interesting to hear how others perceive you, but of course the point of the video is to help with learning Spanish and I really liked the pace and clear pronunciation of Alma's video. I'm just back from a month of traditional language school in Spain, which I really enjoyed but I'm convinced that the Dreaming Spanish comprehensible input method is better. I enjoyed class when our profesoras chatted away in their lovely Spanish and I could just listen, but of course we had to speak and listen to other students trying to speak and then try to learn lots of 'rules of grammar' which are impossible to remember in a real life conversation. I wish I'd found Dreaming Spanish years ago!

I moved to Spain this year from England and noticed many of the same differences as you. Spain has excellent Mediterranean food (obviously) but Asian food is much better in the UK thanks to our larger diaspora groups. It's a lot more difficult to find non-Spanish ingredients in supermarkets for example. I also noticed that people don't apologise here as much as we do in the UK but I think I like that. Bureaucracy in Spain is crazy! It seems you need in-person appointments to do a lot of things that could be done instantly online. And self service tills don't seem to have caught on here. But things in general seem more relaxed, and I prefer that chilled vibe when out drinking or working etc. I think it has to do the weather being so much worse in the UK that encourages people so binge drink more to forget how miserable it is!

Really interesting video, thanks! Some might say that Britain's greatest gift to the world has been the English language, but (as a Brit) I think they're wrong. It's clearly the "full English" breakfast! Though having said that, I only really eat a full English when I'm on holiday or travelling with work - so I don't have to make it myself. Now I want to try a Spanish night out, with a slower pace and some tapas as well... after the pandemic, perhaps!

Who thinks English is a 'gift to the world?' It's only a prominent language because we built an empire and forced a bunch of other cultures to use it.

Gracias, he disfrutado mucho este vídeo.

5:05 - This is something I've noticed about Spain. In most major cities in Spain, a lot of the buildings aren't very old despite Spain being a very very very old country. Which is weird because for example, the city of Boston started in 1630, and much much more of Boston feels older than Madrid. And Madrid is 600 years older.
@aldozilli1293
@aldozilli1293 5 месяцев назад
You might need a trip to Segovia or Toledo. Centre of Madrid is very old, but I think I get what you mean. I think a lot of Americans expect everything to be old in Europe. Likewise I'm British and recently went to NY and Philadelphia and was surprised in and around Philadelphia how historic the buildings were, stone cottages going back 300 to 400 years in some of the more extreme cases.

Most tourists never really taste traditional british food. It more than Fish & chips! A lot of these dish were influenced by Germanic and Saxon tribes and The Romans too. So were hearty and filling dishes for a British climate. They take time to make which most folk don't have these days. Full English breakfast The ploughman sandwich Shepherd's Pie Beef Wellington Ethon Mess Cronish Pasty Chicken Tikka Masala Curry Corned Beef Steak and Kidney Pie Cottage Pie Lacashire Hot Pot Welsh Rarebit Toad in hole Bangers & Mash Bubble & Squeak Yorkshire Pudding Neaps and Tatties Trifle Scotch Egg Scampi Pork Pie Kippers Scones & Tea etc.....

A student made a comment below about British food and Indian food. Cultures develop in remarkable ways all over the world. Britain's multi-culture is probably among the most diverse in the world. And food from other countries has had an obvious influence on British cuisine. Tikka masala is a British dish, and balti too; developed in Birmingham. Indian and Chinese food has become a staple for many Brits. We eat a lot of pasta and Italian based foods, and Greek too. In my small capital city of Cardiff there are three tapas bars within a five minute walking distance of one another. Arab food from the Yemen brought to Cardiff by Yemeni sailors from the early 1800s. I could go on. Cardiff was the most multi-cultural city on the island of Great Britain, along with London, until around the middle of the 20th century. With the growth of the docks and coal exports from the early 1800s, the city attracted people from all over the world. When I was a child, there were more than 50 languages spoken here; there are estimated to be way more than that now in a city of less than half a million population, including Spanish and Portuguese brought by sailors from Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) and from Cadiz and Huelva. Food from all over the world!

And of course you overlooked being Welsh you have many local specialties you should be promoting, like Bara Brith, Cawl, Cockles, Lamb dishes, Faggots, Laverbread, Welsh cheeses (Caerphilly etc.), Welsh sausages (Glamorgan etc.), Oggies, Teisan Lap, Taws pum munud, Crempogau, Welsh cakes etc...Indigenous British cuisine is often overlooked because it is often Cooked badly but when done right is as good as any.

@@aldozilli1293 Ah, si, sí, sí... traditional Welsh cuisine is often underated, particularly by those who´ve never had a good example on a plate. Ha! I grew up with all those things you mention above. I eat laverbread (bara lawr) often. Best bought from Cardiff Central Market, the best day to buy it is a Wednesday, gernarlly. Swansea Market is excellent for seafood. I made some cawl (guiso, supongo) yesterday that will last me a few days.
