427th tag-along view - this one even more enjoyable thanks to a 'new' 21" iMAC screen; thus the images are stunning and easy on these old-guy eyes. "Cheers!" 89th LIKE. Oh, and the soundtrack sounds delightful through the JBL 305 studio monitors. :0)

11:06 - okay, seriously - had to chuckle at "FREE PARKING" - as if there's such tremendous car-clutter, as though you're stuck in L.A. - ummm, NOT! HA! 12:10 - and there he/she/it is. And not the insurance salesman as advertised. Again - spectacular images, above & within the sea.

Yes fish bombing occurs in sabah waters too. But under control as we have coastal radar which picks up illegal fishing vessels. Authorities visit markets too to identify dead fish using bombing methods. They looked different of course.

It's good to hear that they are trying to do something about it but it is so widespread Indonesia simply does not have the resources to keep it in check. We've been in plenty of anchorages where we've heard bombing around us, all unmonitored. And yes, this includes Sabah. After hearing it at one anchorage I asked a local if they were dynamite fishing and her reaction was one of embarrassment. She knew what was going on but the locals are not going to tell the authorities if their livelihood depends on fishing.

@followtheboat not dynamite. It is home made device using fertiliser material eg ammonium nitrate

For argument's sake it is the same thing. Fertiliser is a common ingredient for home-made explosives, but 'home-made explosives made from fertiliser fishing' isn't quite as catchy!

Is boat repair expensive in indonesian islands? (factor in cost of delivery)

Yes. Haul out, berthing and hard standing fees went up by 40% last year and are now on par with Malaysia, yet it lacks skilled workers and access to materials. Even basic stuff like branded sealants and epoxies cannot be sourced here, so everything has to be imported with 30% dues. Short-term greed rules here, compounded by a lack of competition. I'm sad to say that Indonesia had an opportunity to compete against the massive sailing market shared by Malaysia and Thailand, but shoots itself in the foot with increasing costs and expensive visas. I would recommend to only do boat work in Indonesia out of necessity, otherwise take your business further north.

@followtheboat malaysia is trying to improve technical skills (vocational skills) in tvet schools by working with Germany. In the past, our tvet education are British based of course. We also allow students to go for post graduate study if they want to. Higher National Diploma in polytechnics was the highest in the past. As a maritime nation, we hv to improve to compete. Also we hope to work with some countries to study the possibility of a space port in sabah. Just like UK, going for space port. Space is big business. Launching near equator save cost and time.
