In Episode 414 of Things We Said Today, Ken Michaels, Allan Kozinn and Darren Devivo dis-cuss Paul McCartney’s “One Hand Clapping” - why and how he made it, back in 1974, and how the newly released version stands up. [The news segment runs from 4’43” to 22’10.” That is followed by Darren’s recap of his recent visit to England, with flybys of Friar Park and Hog Hill Mill. The discus-sion of “One Hand Clapping” begins at 32’05.”]
During the news, Ken mentioned the Blu-ray reissue of “Born to Boogie,” Ringo’s film about Marc Bolan. Here is the link: trex.tmstor.es/product/147190 Darren also mentioned the evening that he and Dennis Elsas are hosting at Paul’s photo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum (where Allan provides some of the recorded commentary) on July 11, a fundraiser for WFUV. This release is astounding. Sad that Denny Laine isn't here to hear it and witness how glorious he sounds on the album. To hear new Paul songs that were never officially released before such as "Blackpool" "All of you", "Love my Baby" in 2024 is incredible.

"Born To Boogie" also has a segment shot at Tittenhurst Park that includes Tony Visconti, as well as very unique version of the "Apple Films" logo at the opening credits which I've never seen on any other film. It's wonderful and really fun concert film with some very Magical Mystery Tour-ish segments interspersed!

Thanks guys. interesting discussion and appreciate all the info shared. Jimmy Mac - his brilliance as a guitarist notwithstanding it sounds more and more like he was (in my dad's voice) "a real pain in the ..." I guess vol 2 will answer more...

Hello Gentlemen, Great show!!! I have been listening to the album and I think it’s Great I agree with Ken the album should have had a 3 lp or cd with the complete Backyard sessions. I also would like to have the other songs included in the release. I don’t mind the cover it reminds me of Van Halen’s 1984 lp cover and of their balance lp. Cover. What year does Vol 2 go up to? Take care everyone.

Thanks, Joseph. Vol. 2 covers 1974 to 1980, starting with the McGear sessions and running through.... well, there's a hint near the end of our second interview with Peter Jackson, episode 401.

it's a given Beatles are and will be proven to be the Greatest and most influential 'rock band' ever, yet a hundred years from now there will be hundreds of bands playing Grateful Dead music all over the country and world

Taylor Swift did not play Wembley arena, but Wembley Stadium. Paul and Taylor has been friends for over a decade. Taylor was a guest at Paul`s 82 nd birthday party in London where she gave him a gold plated guitar

This release is great but I agree with Ken, release everything, enough with the piecemeal approach. There’s no reason to keep this stuff locked in a vault anymore, hopefully the sales of this encourages and proves to MPL that fans will gladly buy this stuff (and hopefully leads to more Archive sets too)

I enjoy your show but I personally think the Beatles news segment goes on way too long with news that isn’t really relevant A Billy J Kramer recording at Abbey Road?? Brian Ray??? Lots of news items that are remotely connected with Beatles! Tends to get cumbersome and could be shorter in my opinion

I agree. Ken is one of those type of fans (which I am not) that extends "Beatles related" to the nth degree. I think that Billy J Kramer and Pete Best are relevant enough though. If Dani Harrison's dentist's wife's gynecologist's grandson's next door neighbor's band releases a 2 track ep you will unfortunately hear about it here...:)

We certainly have a difference of opinion here, Dave. Billy J. Kramer? He only recorded songs given to him by John & Paul, was produced by George Martin, and managed by Brian Epstein. One of the songs on his new album is a tribute to Brian. He is part of the Beatles family. Brian Ray? He's only been a part of Paul's band for over 20 yaears-how many musicians can say that? If these artists have an audience that would care about what they're doing today, it would be a Beatles audience. I would gladly bring up a new Dhani Harrison album, or new music from the Beatles' kids, but not just anyone that Dhani knows--I don't go that far. If I didn't publicize this news, how would the public find out about it, and how would there be interest developed in it? Most of these news items are quick towards the end of my newscast. Anyone who's ever worked with one of the Beatles could be considered important-a member of Wings, Ringo's All-Starrs, etc., as they are a part of their history. And besides, Allan is nice enough to tell you in our description box where the main topic starts in the show, so if you don't want to hear the news, just fast forward there!
