I actually did try to use the iPad only and I struggle with the same issues you mentioned. The iPad is portable but the software is so limiting that you are better of with a m1 MacBook Air... which is what I did

Yea, its unfortunate. It has so much potential, but just too much of a hassle to deal with the workarounds for everything. I'll be going back to a macbook soon enough. What do you use your air for, anything creative or just admin/browsing/office work?

Great video! For me, I’d love to get an iPad Pro with M4 for animations and then some video editing with that. 3D sculpting included. But yeah, the file management has been a bit frustrating. I’m just wondering if it would be better to wait until the MacBook Pro releases with M4 Max chips. I have a Windows laptop and I do 3D animation and video editing. I just enjoy using the iPad for access to Apple Pencil, nicer display, and media consumption. I’ve also considered a refurbished MacBook Pro but I often worry that I’d need a more beefier, newer chip especially for rendering or 3D work. Finally, I’m learning to code and coding is a better experience on the laptop.

I dont do much in terms of coding or 3D sculpting, but from what I’ve heard the max chip would be perfect for your use case! I too am deciding if I should wait for the M4 chip which was rumored to be released in the MacBook later this year from what Ive seen. Your point on the pencil, there is absolutely no experience like it and thats one of the biggest things I would miss about not having the ipad completely. File management….. Terrible. Ha. good luck with your coding journey!

I had a 12.9 IPP with a MKB as my daily driver. Traded it for a 11” IPP. I’m using as a tablet now and a 14” MBP for heavy lifting. Love both, but the iPad is NOT a MacBook replacement. iPad is a great MacBook companion, which I think is Apples master plan.

That’s exactly what I want to do and wish I would have just gotten the 11” from the start. I’d ideally like to trade my 12.9 for an 11” locally on OfferUp, Reddit, or fb marketplace and get the 14 MacBook Pro, like you said for heavy lifting…. i agree, it definitely seems to be apples plan all along!

Yes!!! That’s why I was having a hard time justifying a 12.9 with keyboard and getting a 14 MacBook Pro, I just felt they were too similar. I think the best scenario would be an 11” ipad and 14” MacBook for heavy work!

I don’t get the point about the keyboard and mouse? It’s a touchscreen, which includes a keyboard and makes a mouse useless? I get some people might prefer to type on a physical keyboard but if so maybe don’t go for an iPad?

Most definitely a personal preference and wouldn’t say there is a right or wrong way. I use the keyboard on screen when on the couch, but to get any type of work done, with the on screen keyboard, it just falls short. At least for me personally..

I daily an older ipad pro 11 2020, which is pre M chip. It uses the A12z Bionic and that is my daily driver, i do all my Notes, Planning, Callender, Excel, Word, Emails TV shows Movies, play around on Procreate, and even play games on there such as Inside, Divinity original sin 2, CODM, Wreckfest, Hades. The ipad is honestly an amazi g device, i hope to see more Games and more Professional Apps with the next apple event. Im very close to getting a ipad M4. The biggest thing you need to realise, is re learning the operating system. Its no MacOS and its not Microsoft. I have a Razer Blade 14 with RTX3070 and a MacBook Pro 16 M3 Pro and i still use my old ipad far more than both.

Yea, thats something I was toying with the idea of when I got it. For those things, I honestly think it’s great and probably one of the best devices for those use cases. Like you said, you just need to learn the operating system and for video editing, I just found it too tedious to what Im use to. It’s all personal preference, but I absolutely LOVE using the pencil for photo editing/drawing…. I honestly wish I would have gotten the 11”
