I'd like to see a blindfolded rig-choosing. Give both the Cpt and the Chappers a selection of maybe 3 guitars, 3 amps and 3 pedals (of the same type) and have them choose their favourite combination without seeing what they pick. Might be a bit too convoluted, but something along those lines would be cool to see (pun intended).

Please do a two-part blindfold challenge! Part 1: Grab one guitar, one amp, and a bunch of similar pedals. Go through and rank your favorite pedals of the lot. Part 2: Do the exact same thing... 3 days or a week later. Same guitar. Same amp. Same pedals. See how similar or different your rankings are. The Point: How much are our "favorites" dependant on the day vs. the actual sound.

The pickups on a jaguar aren't that different from a strat, aside from the little "teeth" on the side that do absolutely nothing, the majority of the sound change comes from the 1M potentiometers instead of 250k on a strat, which allows a lot more high-frequency to pass through. And if you keep the same volume out of the amp, adding high-range is about the same as removing mid and low-end, which makes the "castrated strat" comment quite apt. Also, if you really want to get a good phat sound out of a stock jaguar, put it in rhythm circuit (horn switch in "up" position), roll down the treble (nearest to bridge) to about 1/3rd and put a bit of overdrive on it.

@@gvtshorts2024 The slant adds treble to the bridge pickup of a strat, since the poles for the thinner strings are closer to the bridge (or further away from the neck, where the strings vibrate the largest amplitude), they sound brighter. So if you were to slant the bridge pickup of a jag, it would sound even brighter than it already is, which would probably get you on some WWF watchlist for destroying the ability of nearby bats to echolocate. But the change you would get from un-slanting the strat pickup pales in comparison to installing 1000k pots in a strat, as that would be a true castratocaster.

I build and modify tube amplifiers. Generally there are a very small db of frequencies 'removed' when you add more of any equalizing option that is a passive eq circuit. All you can do is cut frequencies, either high pass or low pass, based on the values you have chosen with your pots/resistors and caps in the tone circuit. You can download a very small program called Tone Stack Calculator that will allow you to play with these values and the circuits while giving you a spectrum read out of the frequencies.

The American Original 60s jag linked to above (presumably what Lee actually played) does not have special 'hot' pickups as on your whiteboard. Nor does it have Pure Vintage 65 pickups as your website says. It has AV62 pickups. Yet again Andertons displays how much they know about offsets. ;)
