Think your Harley is too big and top heavy? Watch this gal!

I hear so many riders say that their motorcycles are too heavy and has a high center of gravity. The fact is, if you know the three motor officer techniques that I teach, there is no such thing as too heavy or high center of gravity. Watch this 5'2", 120 lb. woman whip her stock height motorcycle around like a toy. Marianne is not a motor officer, she just knows the motor officer techniques.

Sure wish I could ride like you. I’m 70 years old and riding my first bagger. I had an FX Springer for many years and you’re right, the bagger is a whole new ballgame. I love it though and I’m looking for an empty parking lot and a couple buddies just in case I drop it. So far so good. I WILL learn this!

I do a handful of maneuvers every week or two. I do the figure 8's until I'm smooth with them. I do emergency stops, obstacle avoidance, opposite turning, short turns, long turns slow and fast, hard turns from stopped and anything else I feel like I need to work on. This is what I've learned. 1 - My bike doesn't perform the same in different temperatures and conditions. 2 - My state of mind makes a big difference (attitude). 3 - no matter how good I think I am, I have to practice to stay sharp.

Me too. I like having people watch when I whip my Victory Vision around in tight circles at very slow rates. People cannot believe that such a big bike is that nimble. I have to explain that it is the technique and not the bike in most cases.

this is lifesaving and informative. the ability to "dodge" in traffic or make a tight u turn comes up way more than you think. i ride these roads in here west central florida daily, and a bike is great fun, but there is so much more than to just "get on and ride". practice counts (a lot!) motorman has probably saved countless lives with these lessons. i think it is AWESOME to see more and more women riders

Jerry, I have you to thank in much appreciation. I've been using the friction zone on my Goldwing DCT automatic. You had voiced some skepticism in the past and I'm here to tell you I ride like I fly. I control the bike, it doesn't control me. As it is in the cockpit, it is on the road. I run mostly in the Tour mode and it does everything I like and the friction zone makes that bike stable. Love the vids and advice. Keep it coming.

Harleys have many things to criticize but “top heavy” is not one of them. They actually make a good beginner bike for this reason. I was LAPD motors in the late 60s and HD was the only police compatible big bore bike available. I used to dazzle the onlookers with slow riding and maneuvering which is easier than it looks with the HD. The drawbacks?…you figure that out.
