As a student myself, I can say that I am pretty positive. I'm doing well with online learning, and I am optimistic of the world working itself out. Graphs of the cases in the U.S. are leveling out. In some places, the number of cases is decreases. This will be ok. I'm going to high school next year, and I admit, it is pretty sad to not say goodbye to some people, but this will work out. The world always does.

Way to stay optimistic. Keep on keeping on and stay creative and determined and it most certainly will. Attitudes like that are one of the things that make it worth being a teacher. Thank you.

@For This Land Do you ever go back and watch your old videos? I imagine it would be fascinating to watch your old videos when you didn’t yet know the future and now you’ve seen how everything has played out. I’m not necessarily meaning political feelings… more about how weird things were back when the pandemic was first hitting and how we’re moving to a sort of post-pandemic world (which seems to be a lot more like the pre-pandemic America). It’s wild.

I haven’t. It would be a good exercise. Lately I have been more focused on the future and major shifts in lifestyle and career. It’s why I haven’t made a post in so long. Lots of post pandemic changes. I should do that, though.

I don't think, that students will be able to learn independently.......at least not all of them. I think that because it makes a huge difference whether you are guided by teachers in school and you have a specific task for a specific time, than it is to be forced to decide by yourself when you do which task, while being able to do all other kinds of things which are way more fun than learning. This is possible because you are at your home and the PlayStation is only 5 meters away.....of course it is nice to learn useful things, but it has to be USEFUL. And a huge percentage of what we learn in school isn't very useful, or at least we don't see the usefulness of it at that moment. Just some thoughts on your future education system idea by a student from Germany.

Those are definitely the challenges. I agree with that sentiment 100%. I’m going to pretend that I know exactly what the solution will look like. It’s just the idea I have of where the solution may lie. And you do nail a very real point: learning does also require a community. That is largest value of physical schools. The does some of its most effective learning when gathered in a community sharing the learning goal. How work that reality into the new vision...? Don’t know that one yet either. Thanks for your thoughtful feedback.

@@pathrst Mayby the new "virtual reality" technology might be a solution for that problem....you can stay at home but still interact with the teacher and your classmates, just like it would be in real life. But quite frankly I don't see the point in changing the school system in this direction....just because mayby all 100 years a crise like the Corona Virus occurs and we are forbidden to have social contact anymore? I don't think this is reason enough. Never change a running system. I know that as you said in the video, every teacher has something that doesn't work for him/her.....but this is the case in basically every part of life... there is always something that bothers us....even if it might not be all that important. My suggestion would be, that you continue school like it is now, but you have a second system prepared for the worst case scenario like the coronavirus.

I guess, what I didn’t mention in the video is the largest problem we face in our American system as how uncreative it is. It is very plug-and play and mechanical and there are a great many students that are not very capable of independent and creative thought. We teach to tests and spend so much of our time making sure that kids only think about and pass tests. Then when faced with more practical learning or problem solving scenarios, they fail. I would not do away with physical schools. Not ever. However, the philosophy of education that we practice is very industrialized. A hold over from the industrial revolution and no longer reflective of the world we live in. This is a tumultuous time in which we can re-orient our mindset in approaching education. I think, perhaps, I was not very clear about what I perceived the problem to be and how the direction I envisioned fit into that.

@@pathrst Ok. I think I misinterpreted your point a little. And I fully agree, that the school system is teaching the students how to follow rules and orders, but it doesn't teach them how to come up with own ideas and develop them. The system is made to produce employed workers, that work in factorys. It isn't made to produce independent business men that follow their own path. In this regard I absolutely agree with your opinion and I think it is very important to change the school system in a way that it teaches the students to be independent and think outside of the box, in order to invent and develop own ideas.

Niklas Fischer to your credit I don’t know that my point was very clear.
