Thanks so much. Changed the fan on my T41. There are some differences. The original fan casing is made of cast aluminum. To remove it I had to drill out the rivet points. Then to put the new case in, which is made from stamped metal, I had to drill out the holes a bit and grind the edges of the copper heat sink to be able to fit the tabs from the pressed metal fan case in place. But it all worked like a charm. Repair cost me under 20$ in parts (including delivery).

Thanks for the great video. A small plastic piece had fallen into the fan and blocked it. By following the video as was able to remove the small plastic piece and voila ! - problem gone. Andreas

I have a Z60m that had fan error. Removed the fan and then pulled just the plastic blade unit out by gently turning back and forth and pulling it away from the body simultaneously. Cleaned the shaft and then the sleeve which the shaft goes into with a toothpick. Dropped 1 drop sewing machine oil into sleeve and put back the blade unit. Works great.
HI guys. Just repaired the fan error on Lenovo Thinkpad R61i. The fan was still functional yet gives off the fan error. What we did was cleaned the fan thoroughly, and used CO Contact Cleaner on the backside of the fan where you can see a small glimpse of the fan board at the center where the rotary mechanism is. Spray decent amount, covering the whole circular area. and try it again on the board. Hope this helps. Like it if it helps so others can see too. TQ
1. When you buy a new fan, it should come with the brass\copper casing too! No..?? 2. Initially, I thought this video is about fixing the fan without any additional cost of replacing with a new fan..! 3. Pull out the Black Fan Blades, then after cleaning it thoroughly put a few drops of machine oil in the rotary shaft, and then reassemble the fan - the fan will work like new and you won’t have to spend any money for a new fan! 4. Like if this saved you some money ;-)
Why buy a new heatsink? Wouldn't replacing just the T60 fan with the T500 fan be sufficient? I ask because I need to replace my T60's fan and not sure if the T61's heatsink is necessary to buy or if it would fit. Looking at images it seems slightly different, no?
If your fan still makes noise, check the wires going from the coil. if they vibrate when you manually spin the fan, then you simply have to put a part of a toothstick between fan and wires and the vibration will stop. I fixed mine this way.

If so, I replaced the fan, but the computer would not turn on...until I took out all the screws, then just checking to see if I had them in too tight, I replaced the battery and the computer worked. The. I put the screws back in and the comouter will not turn on again...
I've cleaned the fan on my T61 because of a fan error. I applied some lub inside the fan. Right now my laptop is booting only few seconds (between 3 to 7). The first bootup is the longer. After that it completely stop, no more lights. I have to unplug the battery and/or the power cord to be able to start it a new time. Any idea of what the problem can be ? The fan start to spin when booting up and almost immediately halt. Is it normal ? Thanks for your help
I never used additional thermal paste for the 40+ Fans I have fixed so far using this method. Simply, don't wipe the thermal paste that is already there on the fan body.

hi, i have installed another laptop's copper cooler system into my Acer 5742g's cdrom space as the 2nd cooler - attached the pipe onto gpu but not with the fan. Fan is waiting outside as i could not plug it to motherboard, it requires 0.5 volt. I succeeded to play heavy games and increased play time but still cpu reaches to 100 C and over. I have two options for more cooling; Attaching a pipe with water and cooling the water outside with cooler fan or another copper bridge to be cooled with fan

That's so true and right!!!..My IBM is very old T43 and i have to clean it,otherwise it's 4 troush!!...The problem is,i never have done something like that!Don't know what i'm gonna need to open it.If someone knows,please tell me!!Thank u a lot!!!
A lot of tinkering. Maybe not a solution, but if you hold down the exc button and the enter button when the fan error comes up, the computer screams a little bit then it boots just fine.
some problem in startup, fan not damage. change "check fan status" in some settings somewhere, don't know where. When this problem occur I'll turn computer upside down and press start. several times until something happens. Don't move or shake the computer, case then you need to buy a new HD. I speak English very little.

OMG why I read this now An idiot "fix" it welding one of three little cables to the motherboard and now can't edit fan speed with speedfan and also the speakers didn't work anymore!
