It really is. His review of the Yoga 6 was very informative and I now own one! Love the benchmarks. I will watching this extensively in a few more years or whenever I go to buy another laptop.
@@CommonSense9eleven It is pretty good. I don't do much but word processing, zoom meetings, and internet browsing. It has been lasting me like 7 to 9 hrs with brightness all the way up and performance vs battery life slider in the middle. Had it for about 6 months now I think, and I am really happy with it.
I have the X1 Carbon and running 2 x 27inch external monitors in extended mode, sound bar, wireless keyboard and mouse all connected via a hub and one cable to laptop. Could not be happier with this setup giving awesome computing power and 3 screens to work with. Suprememly satisfied with my Carbon.
@@codyallen211 I regret! Perfect laptop for me but charging port is not working and there are many people with the same issue: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IqKCTvKlZWc.html I want my money back or permanent fix.
Great video Josh but wow, these laptops are ridiculously overpriced. I can only assume they will quickly be discounted. In these Apple Silicon days, a Windows laptop needs to be have excellent spec, solid performance across the board & be very competitively priced otherwise why bother?
Your videos are getting better and better, I'd love to see these compare to the decidedly cheaper Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon edition, not available in the US as far as I can tell but I believe available in 'stralia and definitely in europe 👍
Hey Josh, i bought the Nano after your initial review and i'm extremely happy with the unit. I also totally agree with you on the keyboard. To me the keys feel like a mix between oldschool thinkpad- and newer apple keyboards. Thanks for your awesome videos!
Hey Josh! Thanks for the Great Video! Really love the Yoga. But one Question: haven't you noticed the terrible throttling on X1 Carbon and X1 yoga? Notebookcheck and multiple Users on the Lenovo Forums reported it. How was it on your units?
Awesome comparison and couldn't be at a better moment for me! I'd choose the Yoga in a heartbeat (although the price is pretty steep), but I'll need to use the laptop outside on sunny days and I am worried about how usable that reflective screen would be :/ My Yoga Slim 7 is COMPLETELY unusable due to reflections, even at 400 nits - can't even find the cursor at all...
This review was right up my alley. I am in love with my ThinkPad keyboard and I can't get my hands on HP Spectre x360 14 here in Canada. The nuance in the laptop game right now is overwhelming and I appreciate reviews like this that help distill things for me a bit. I'm going with the X1 yoga gen 6. A little nervous about battery life, but love the combination of performance, flexibility, and size.
Thanks for the comparisons. I have been a ThinkPad Yoga user for a few years now and love the build quality, weight and feel. I find that it has really quit good battery life. I have caught myself out on the road working and the back at a hotel streaming for a couple of hours, falling asleep and then waking up a couple of hours later with it is still running/streaming, shutting it down and the waking up in the morning, booting it up and find that it still has 40% battery left. Speed is great and the heat has not been a distraction but maybe I am used to it.
I got x1 carbon 7th gen for work and trying to get a better grasp what to buy for personal use. A little of nano awesomeness would be nice in my life and you just gave me an excuse for it ;-) all the best to your Mum :-)
Beware the titanium trackpad uses very new technology from Sensel which has a steep learning curve. Not only is thr trackpad based on their Morph product's "resistive"-like (but much more precise than capacitive) sensors, but it also doesn't really click - it has haptics akin to the Magic Trackpad on Macs which uses sound speaker coils to provide both vibration and sound. I would highly appreciate a thorough review of this laptop with this detail in mind, because everyone who is reviewing these (except Linus Tech Tips for some reason) is ignoring this tiny, but very important detail
@@mini9503 but they also failed to acknowledge the new tech which leads me to believe Lenovo isn't even notifying reviewers about it. I think the company excels on pushing input mechanism that nobody uses out of just neglecting it (oh wait, we also have the track point...), but that may actually be great when given enough attention. Reminds me of my 9yo child who is too accustomed to touchscreens and track pads and now that I set their desk uo with keyboard, mouse and even monitor, they keep using the integrated keyboard, trackpad and monitor!
Excellent review!!!! This really helps me making a decision between the X1s, Props to you sir. 10:14 The battery life is much worse in the X1 Yoga Gen 6 because it has the 4K+ screen. The results you got seem very reasonable. That being said I'm still thinking I'm going to get the X1 Yoga with the 4K+ screen because it is just such a nice screen.
I ended up going the the X1 Yoga Gen 6 with the 4K screen. I'd say overall I am very happy with it. The 4K+ screen is truly gorgeous, I fully calibrated it for photo editing and prints. It is simply the best screen I have ever used. The beautiful screen does come at a cost though, battery life is not that good, I end up getting about 3.5hours of usable life, even less if doing heavier tasks. Also the 4K+ display can tax the GPU and cooling causing the laptop to get fairly hot overall. Also of note, the keyboard is not as good as previous Lenovo ThinkPad laptops (X1 Yoga Gen 1, T420S) that I have owned, but still a step up from the HP I have for work or my old Dell Inpriron. I swapped out the M.2 SSD with a 2TB WD Black PCIe 4.0, and it is just crazy fast. Super easy to swap out, it is a total no brainier, the 2TB WD Black PCIe 4.0 SSD can be found on Amazon for about $300.
@@nafnaf0 Thank you for this update, it puts things into perspective, I'm between the carbon due to its lightweight (I travel a lot), and the yoga because of the 2 in 1, though I have a zenbook right now and I barely use the touch screen, or the pen in my galaxy note, but I feel safe to have them just in case lol. Question: How heavy does the yoga feel if you tag it along your daily activities?
I bought my X1 carbon two weeks ago and installed Manjaro with Sway. I'm loving the performance, the quality, and the Linux support of this laptop! The only kinda downside with Tiger lake is that it doesn't support S3 sleep but the s0ix state works well in Linux (0.5wh while suspended) Edit: The trackpad on my unit works as it's supposed to
@@collinguidry9867this is the first diving trackpad that I've used so it's difficult to say if the resistance is hard or not. I think that it's fine. Takes more pressure than the buttons above though
I just returned my galaxy book 360, screen resolution too low, my eyes get tired very soon, but the Samsung apps are pretty good if you are a Galaxy phone user
Really appreciate your hard work and honesty! I get so tired of "everything is great" reviews & reviewers who say pretty exactly the same thing for every machine. Loses credibility fast. Your contwnt is helpful and refreshing!!
2:54 it was always the case, at least for the last 10 years, not just "current" or "intel". btw tiger lakes are slower, more power hungry and more expensive than ryzens. and this is the ULTIMATE battle market against cosumers.
This helps, but I'm still confused, I need a laptop, but I am afraid of suffering through the same thing apple did to me. I got a 12.6 ipad pro 2020 in September and they released a brand new m1 in April, I called them to upgrade my brand new $1600 ipad and they offered me $580 for my brand new ipad and to add insult to injury I have to pay them $700 extra for an ipad with less storage, I wanted the m1 mac air and not even like that they offered a better deal. Considering my ioad is still under warranty. Now I am getting a windows machine, I know them better, but I don't know which one, I like the Yoga 6 with fabric, but too many contadicting reviews, I chose the nano x1, but the same I'm sort of settling on a samsung book flex, my new laptop has to be i7 11th gen, 16 gb and 512, light since I just had back surgery 13 inches or 14 max. Usb c 4 thunderbolt at least two, hdmi and if possible a usb a ports... Can you suggest something
Very useful video, Josh! As I am torn between X1 carbon and X1 nano, I would appreciate it a lot if you could elaborate on your typing experience on the two keyboards of those machines. I find it rather interesting (and a bit counterintuitive) when you said you like the X1 nano more; it has short key travel, I believe. Thank you!
not sure why my comment was removed, but I wrote about the Titanium Yoga trackpad, it is the newest type coming only to best laptops currently, search for Sensel force trackpad, you will understand what I mean. Even the feel of the click can probably be customized.
Can you maybe make a comparison video with the lenovo x1 yoga gen 6 and the hp spectre x360 14t? That would be so nice, because no one else had done that!
Hi Josh, Thanks for this great review. How about comparing the three 2-in-1's from Lenovo - the ThinkPad X13 yoga (Gen2), X1 Yoga Gen 6 and Yoga 9i? I'm still not able to decide which to choose! Regards.
It is 5:10 am here and being a ThinkPad fanboy and watching this video on a ThinkPad itself, this video has just made my day. PS: The dislikes are from those who like the Trackpoint. :P
Hello, my name is Cássimo, I'm in need my childhood dream is to become a computer programmer i want to learn how to code but i don't have a computer i woud be happy and greatful if you could help me.
Hello@@vannithlong3585 im Australian, my wife is Khmer so im CambAussie 😉. I still have a Mid Year ASUS UX305CA Zenbook m3-6y30. Not great these days to compare but it does what i need it to do.
Is the X1Carbon's 4K+ display much more reflective than the X1 Yoga's 4K+? I would have assumed they use the same panel but I guess not! Anti-reflective coatings, particularly on glossy screens like these, make such a huge difference - they measure similarly at 6:36 in terms of contrast but with any ambient lighting and a different coating, that changes dramatically!
I bought the X1 Carbon not so long ago and if not for the Nano I would be 100% happy. I love the keyboard and chassis on the Carbon, it's just that the Nano is the perfect size IMO. If I weren't so lazy I'd sell the Carbon and get the Nano.
Yes. One of my favorite work setups with my Yoga is to put it on a notebook stand to elevate it, fold back the keyboard and then connect external mechanical keyboard and mouse. Works also great on stands from Room-in-a-box. So it's Yoga for me. :-)
im currently looking for a new laptop. (Going to college this fall and planning on majoring in Software Development ) Ive been a long-time thinkpad user but the m1 macbooks look soo good. Would you recommond a thinkpad or a m1 macbook?
Ambient light sensor in X1 Yoga 8th - is it there? Sir, please, check it out directly on the laptop. There is no one to ask about it, literally. There is nothing in scecs about it. Please, thank you :) I would really like to have that "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes" feature.
You obviously don't remember when the first Thinkpad was made available for market with the "track pointer", a trait of the model themselves! The comments about the finish track pad are subjective.
5:31 because it is not the same kind of trackpad but it is macbook like trackpad. Well kinda. See Linus's video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XuM2ZG_Hwjk.html&ab_channel=LinusTechTipsLinusTechTipsVerified
Very surprised at the Titanium Yoga being underwhelming. Lenovo has some quality control issues to answer for in almost every model they're making. Their concepts are great, but the delivery is usually the problem especially with their hardware lotteries.
what is benefit from big trackpad? i mean its not like in 2005 when it was small as match box :D tbh i think its nonsense when 1/4 of laptop is touchpad
That is a good question. I think the matte 1200x1920 screen would be a pretty good option and will give much better battery life than the 4K+ screen. The 4K+ screen will be better though, it has much higher color gamut and has generally been regarded by multiple reviewer’s is simply outstanding. I think either would be a good choice, I’m personally went with the 4K+ since I use it for photo editing and printing.
Just to note, right now the Matte 1200x1920 screen option ($30) is only available on the Yoga Gen 6, but not the Carbon Gen 9. With the carbon GEN 9 you can only get the glossy 1200x1920 screen.
Was the X1 Titanium already the one with the Sensel force touchpad (afaik the first notebook on the market that has this)? In that case "cheap and inaccurate" sounds unexpected, would expect thousands of force sensors to be more the opposite of inaccurate and cheap. But perhaps it reacts somehow different than other touchpads and thus unusual? I haven't tested the X1 yet but know the Morph (based on the same technology) - which has exceptional sensitivity and resolution.
Appreciate the work you put in Josh. You clearly put a lot of effort into each video and you deserve a lot of credit for that. Keep up the great work and wishing you more success!
excellent video/new subscriber here. Anyway.. I really wish the nano was a 2 in 1.. I'd be in on that for sure. I have a Surface Laptop go right now that is an ideal size for me but wish it also yoga'd.
@@JustJoshTech I am planning to buy the pro duo 2021 coz according to 2 or 3 reviews they are amazing but I am just now sure... That’s why I asked for the review. After watching your videos I am really able to decide as you give clear thoughts and not just a general opinion❤️
Hi Josh, I'm Java fullstack developer, I work with many tabs of browser like Chrome, Firefox and some IDE at the same time. I would like to ask you that which Laptop should I buy ? X1 nano I5 or X1 Carbon Gen 9 I5 or Yogo Slim 7 Pro ? I want a laptop which is have good durability ... Please give me an advice. Thank you!
Hi Josh, I'm contemplating on lenovo's 2 types of model. Can you do a comparison on LENOVO X1 YOGA gen 6 thinkpad Vs LENOVO YOGA 14S Im a training manager, so I do tons of slides, videos, audio, Microsoft and Google files, for work. So which would you rather between that 2 types? Or, any other recommendations? Thanks. =)

I used Thinkpad T470 for a bit longer than 3 years before getting a X1 Gen 3 Extreme about 5 months ago. It is true that the latter's keyboard felt incredibly shallow when I first typed on it, compared to the T470's counterpart. However, as time progressed, the X1's keyboard started to feel familiar to my touch despite its shallowness. So I think it is worth giving the X1's keyboard some time before getting used to it - although it is surely not as satisfying as that of T470. Thanks for the video.
OK. If you are reviewing thinkpad and believe that the trackpoint and the button should be removed, just get the other 10000 lines that lenovo have for you. Thinkpad IS NOT FOR YOU. For the ones that use it, it is the best design ever, and I want to see that at least until 2030.
But doesn´t the Non-Touch Version making the x1 carbon gen9 just a regular laptop ( not 2-1) ? currently looking for one online because they seem insanely expensive. I got a yoga gen 6 as a working computer now looking forward to buy gen 9 for myself
Thank you, very interesting video! From the spring 2021 I am happy with X1 Carbon gen. 8 (i5 10210U, 16/512, FHD touch, LTE). It is corporate laptop for financial analysis, big tables, texts, scans, outlook, teams meetings, etc. From other hand I use MBA M1 as a private laptop for youtube, netflix, family photos & videos, private mail etc. And for me X1 Carbon more useful, more universal, than MBA M1. Best keyboard, 14" touchscreen, ports, weight are main advantages of X1 Carbon for me. Advantages of MBA X1 only battery life time and price. Am I right, that battery life time of gen. 9 and 10 is better, than gen. 8?
Hello can you please make a review on the lenovo ideapad s540 - 13ITL with the i7-1165g7 cpu QHD screen and it also has thunderbolt c it’s very cheap on my place right now and I cannot find any reviews on youtube🥺
I've used Lenovo since many years now, during my PhD years in computational physics, afterwards for traveling with some different jobs, then again as a professional in data management... And I should say, I want to point out out that they are still crippled by the same "pro" shortcomings. Dull screens. Dull audio. Dull cameras. Dull graphics performance. Even when you spend over 2k, they still have those flaws. Take it from a 12 years Lenovo user.
Hi Josh. I very recently managed to score what i think was a good price on the X1 Yoga Gen 6, i71185, 16g RAM and 1TB storage for $2k CAD. But, my dilemma is - should I return it, and when it becomes available, get the Gen 7 with improved cooling, Alder Lake processor, and a 4k OLED display? I don't do a lot of processor intensive work, but I do a fair bit of photography, web browsing etc. (I'm largely indifferent about the improved webcam). The 4k OLED screen will likely be awesome but maybe it will be very power-hungry. Will the Alder Lake processor be THAT much more efficient? (The OLED screen appeals to me, though the present 4k screen is very good.) Many thanks for any insight you're able to offer.
carbon is really the only one worth buying, buy the 12th i5, very powerful and price is on point especially when it’s on sale. I do agree it’s trackpad is not good as MacBook, but it still does an excellent job compare to other winbook, like xps15. If you buy yoga, you might find out that you barely use it as pad because it’s too hard to use, and it’s expensive and poor battery life,
