Disney just showed off a completely new set of Thinner! Ashoka Tano lightsabers using their new lightsaber blade mechanism at the San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Will Disney remake all of their legacy lightsabers to be a new thinner design? Will these new blades be available in the parks in different sizes? Let me know what you think in the comments.

The number one reason I don't currently collect Galaxy's Edge or Hasbro lightsabers is the massively oversized hilts. If they finally start selling accurately sized hilts, that could be a huge game changer.

i have to say that now having owned all types of sabers, I like the Disney ones because they kind of "purr" at you instead of roaring like the aftermarket ones. Total ASMR. I also like how they feel for just sort of holding and hanging out with. They have their niche in my heart despite how much I enjoy dueling RGB sabers and neopixel.

@@LightsaberCulture For the price they look really cool and display well... the main reason I got mine. Last week shopdisney had 30% off star wars and free shipping so I got the anakin/luke/rey one for like $109....it looks and feels amazing. Cheapest EMPTY hilt of that type elsewhere is over $200.....at the park they had the Shadow Maul on sale for like $110 as well, with the glowing crystal...very cool looking and feels great to hold. Cheapest aftermarket is around $300....

Interesting, I'm the other way! After getting my first baselit saber, I can't go back to my Disney saber - it's just too quiet! I love the feeling of the aftermarket one absolutely humming and vibrating in my hand like it's actually a deadly laser weapon, lol

You can turn down the volume on neopixel lightsabers... Can even turn down the volume to a preference using the xeno app if the model supports Bluetooth connection

I do wish the current ones were a little thinner, but I wouldn’t go out and buy them all over again. However, I would take advantage of being able to get newer versions of the ones I missed out on like Obi-Wans padawan hilt.

They are doing that because of Ahsoka TV show. Seems her lightabers has more weathering now. And that guy recived replica of the same lightsabers Rosario uses. They are vastly different than legacy ones. So now Disney started to use those ones as Galaxy Edge ones. Same was with Yoda ones. They had lightsabers ready for Book of Bobba Fett, so they used those ones and not to mention Darksaber. I presume they will leave old lightsabers as they are, when new ones will be introduced in any TV show, they will use those molds and parts as Legacy Lightsabers. So next ones are Shin and Baylan.

This plus the fact that SELECT sabers have been 30% off for a couple months all makes a LOT of sense. Clearing room for new inventory of theorized smaller, higher quality sabers....probably the ones they put on sale (will be interesting to compare the models on sale to ones released in new version). Making sure they get sold BEFORE they show the smaller Ahsoka hilts that lead to this "theory". I think you are definitely on to something! I'm thinking we'll know soon.

From August 16th until October 16th every single saber is 30% off including the black box ones. I guarantee that you are on to something for sure because now it seems like they are trying to clear the whole inventory before new ones drop. The lei, plo koon, sidious lightsabers are no longer part of Dok's inventory at Hollywood studios at least so it seems like the sale on those was effective.

I was at Disney Springs a couple weeks ago and asked in the Star Wars Trading Post about this theory and he said they were still making them and didnt know anything about any new releases. Whether he really didnt know or they are told to not say anything.....who knows.

I have mixed feelings about this… I’m okay with them changing the hilts to be thinner and more screen-accurate. But I don’t really want them to change the blades. I like that the blades are currently interchangeable with all of my Legacy sabers. I also don’t like that the new Ahsoka and Yoda sabers are in the cardboard boxes. I understand that it’s for the blades, but I prefer the aesthetic of the plastic boxes, because I like to display my hilts in them.

The twist lock of the blade is nice since it makes it easy to install and remove. The thing about the screw in is that if the threads will wear out or possibly get cross threaded. 3rd party use set screws so it does take a little longer to attach or remove the blade.

They might have my attention if their sabers are redesigned. Cal Kestis' saber is my favorite, so if I can get one for cheap, then they have my attention. However, I've already put a LOT of money into my custom Kestis build, so it's still up in the air.

I agree that the Kylo Ren and Skywalker (Anakin/Luke/Rey) are all fine regarding size/width. What do you think about Kenobi, Luke’s & Vader’s? I think they’re probably fine too. Ashoka’s sabers were the most obviously too large, with Cal Kestis and Qui-Gon’s being way too big too. And Palp’s is just ridiculous!

I agree with this, not all of them need to be remade if they’re already not too chunky. As u said luke Vader kenobi and then even mauls are probably the correct size anyways. It’s only the really fat one like qui gon and palpatine that need slimming down

The only reason to redesign existing sabers would be to make more money. But, this means retooling manufacturing which would be expensive. Since this video came out almost a year ago, I have not heard of any changes in the existing line, and I have been watching Disney saber prices go up and down depending on the season. So, the 'promo' prices some are arguing as evidence of retooling is moot really. I would argue that Disney were only looking to make more accurate replicas of Yoda and Ahsoka sabers and were simply forced to create thinner blades for those models only. I wouldn't be worried if you have a large collection - or wait for thinner blades - just don't think it's gonna happen folks.

Not to mention these fancy third party sabers are, almost always, inaccurate in their details. Of course they are, without a license these companies cannot use original designs and have to alter them, still, it is a reason why I would not buy a third party "replica", just because it's no real replica. Of course the Cal Kestis sabers from Disney are thick as hell, but at the same time they are the only official Cal Kestis Lightsaber products and therefor even more accurate than better sized models outside of Disney and Hasbro. Sorry to say, but that's the way it is. Because of that I really hope Disney improves on their design and that Hasbro makes more lightsabers.

Great video! I've already purchased 8 of the legacy lightsabers. These things are NOT cheap! I have no plans to replace all of my existing sabers. However, I'm intrigued about the new design and would think about purchasing sabers for Star Wars characters that I don't currently own. Think about the new Star Wars movies that are coming out in 25, 27 and 29. I'm sure we'll see all new Jedi/Sith characters with their own lightsabers.

Well, I have missed out on the Ahsoka Tano legacy set, but I will not be purchasing any duplicates of the Galaxy's Edge. I may consider the Legacy Box set for rebels ahsoka, but I've also seen Proffie Ahsoka sets for $650. I'll probably hold out for those.

While I think overall it's great to hear they keep working on innovating the hilts - it'd be nice if they at least had real smooth swing. I think if they did the new blades + less chonky hilts + smooth swing - I'd rebuy the galaxies edge sabers I already have. Otherwise - it's just thinner and new blades - not a fan. More of a money grab that actually making the hilts closer to the quality you can find from custom saber vendors.

So I was so close to buying my first saber when I was at Galaxy’s Edge in the first year it opened. Price was right for what I was looking for, but I was disappointed by inconsistent and delayed sounds when swinging. Haven’t been back since so I don’t know if that’s improved, but if they haven’t improved that yet, I hope that’s something else they’re tinkering with

thinner sabers are great for like the palatine and the skywalker sabers and other sabers but according to the legends Darth Vader had to make his saber a little bigger to fit his cybernetic hands compared to other sabers like the skywalker saber and therefore the bigness of Darth vaders legacy lightsaber makes pretty accurate compared to the legends.

Having an actual Graflex hilt, the one thing I did notice is that Disney / Hasbro are VERY, VERY close to being size accurate. So IF.... IF Disney were to revamp every hilt to date with this new, thinner style and blade, I don't really think I would be down for spending the $$ to replace them all. Now, I would LOVE to see thinner hilts coming from Savi's! That would be amazing. Oh, and as for the person who got the Ahsoka sabers from SDCC. Putting something that special up on ebay makes you kind of a scum bag. Just saying...

I already own a thin dooku saber... Really is nice in the hands, probably one of the thinnest in my collection and isn't too heavy

I have the Ahsoka box and is my favorite thing to own. These new ones looks good too but tbh Im not a fan of how small they made the shoto saber.

I wouldn't replace any of my Disney hilts. I have over ten of them, they look great on display, and I'm happy with them. I already have custom hilts for specific characters so I'm ok with a mixed bag. If Disney changes the size of their line-up, I'll just continue to buy what interests me
