Here's one for you, I have surround sound on my computer, 5+1 speakers, and every time I watch your videos, and the tow truck is running, the resonance of it's exhaust, causes the metal TV trays across the room, to vibrate and rattle. Took me awhile to figure out the noise I was hearing here. But, it does a number on the speakers, and at certain rpm levels, the rumble gets things excited. COOL.

You should also use a straight edge to check the surfaces on the block for alignment. If your block is out, and they can be, you can custom file the pump housing to match the block. There are also thick gaskets made where the hole that the coolant flows through has a copper "grommet" which will act as a compressible seal and will not blow out if the surfaces are less than ideal.

On the fire: That much work beforehand had that engine bay Dante hot, I'm sure. The gauge on those electrical wires looked pretty beefy, but they still would have been carrying a bit of heat on their own. And don't forget, the coolant itself is already hotter than the boiling point of water. And you were in one of the driest environments possible. Truly the perfect alignment of factors; the splattering coolant separating out the water as steam with the PG being ignited - would also explain the excessive steam as it was probably mostly PG vapor. Madness.

Good point to check, I'm sure running at top rpms had the water pump "boosting" the water pressure, though the system. Don't some applications that run electric water pumps to keep fixed speed / pressure of coolant flow besides reducing parasitic HP loss? I remember many years ago, a few 350s blowing out water pump gaskets, when hitting high rpm's. It might have even broken a few rocker arms and started floating a valve or two.

Paul, I had never even heard of coolant or antifreeze burning or that was even flammable. And I've been a professional wrench before and a wrench for racing and just for the sake of building hot rods. But after watching this video and doing some research it is flammable. And I guess it should be seeing that it has ethylene glycol in it and if all the water steamed out it could flame up. Learned something new today. So I guess you can teach an Old Dog new tricks regardless of the old wives tail that you cant. LOL 😂😂😂

Another potential fire hazard .... Windshield washer is also inflammable. The methanol in windshield washer is flammable when it is not diluted, and it is poisonous even when diluted. Proper packaging and hazard symbols help to warn users to treat the product with care and keep out of reach of children.

Boy that sand chute likes to eat good rigs. And surprisingly the newer Bronco makes it up on Matt’s video. But eventually breaks anyways! “not surprised” I am a former owner of several early 70’s Broncos. Wish I still had one now. Yes I watched Matt’s fun on the hill before yours. What an equalizer, your rig did real well. Secondly, are you sure those water pump bolts didn’t get loose after replacement. I’ve seen those bolts loosen and weep coolant before on cust’s cars. BTW that wrecker of yours likes to turn 😁 😁😁 You sure weren’t babying it. Sounds very good!!

Thermostat and water pump bolt holes can have rust, corrosion, thread sealant, gasket maker, etc. that inhibit the bolt from tightening down and applying clamping force to the gasket. I had it happen on a thermostat housing that wasn't sealing up, even after changing the gasket. Removed again, and used a thread chaser to clean out the bolt holes, after which she was new money. I would bet there was a lack of clamping force on the gasket that blew out, so something to consider if it happens again.

The only time I've ever had that happen to me was when I used rtv on the gaskets. I've used spray tack only on water gaskets ever since.

Antifreeze is definitely flammable if it’s hot enough to cook the water out of it…😅

I'm like you guys, I have Never had a gasket blow out like that. But maybe the fellow saying that your radiator cap might need to be replaced with one that will let pressure out at a lower temperature than the one you are using. It certainly couldn't hurt to be safe. 😊

If it happens again check the length of the bolts, if they are too long it will tighten but may not have enough clamping force to hold the housing in place.

The block threads go directly into the coolant, no bottom.

Hey Paul, not saying i know, but I blew out a hot radiator hose and it sprayed hot coolant all over the engine, that in turn washed some random oil off the motor onto the exhaust and poof there was a fire 🔥. Good job keeping your sense of humor during a frustrating time 😉👍👍

Hey Paul. You do realize that Antifreeze is very Flammable. When the Antifreeze sprayed as a compressed gas / mist, and hit that electrical block on the frame it ignited.

Flammable: It might seem strange that coolant, which contains water, is flammable, but it is. In fact, it will auto-ignite on a hot surface. So if enough coolant leaks on to the engine while the engine's running, a fire could occur.
@davemason6501
@davemason6501 9 месяцев назад
Yes I looked it up. Spraying coolant on the exhaust manifold will cause the water component to boil off first, and when the ethylene glycol reaches 770F it will autoignite, giving you the fire.

@@davemason6501 It will burn! I once had a wire fire under the dash and tried to put it out with was antifreeze. That made things a LOT worse. I did manage to get the fire out. I learned a lesson that day...

A common problem with the ecodiesel's back in the day was the EGR cooler failure which caused coolant to be exposed to hot exhaust. This would cause the coolant to flash boil to steam which would be pushed into the intake manifold and melt it, and even causing fires because it was so hot. Maybe in your case the coolant hit the exhaust headers and flash boiled and either ignited the antifreeze, or hit some material that ignited with the super heated steam hitting it.
