In this video I review the TTARTISAN 27mm or 40mm equivalent on full frame camera from a street photographers perspective.
I talk about this lesser know focal length, and why it's such a unique focal length for Street photography.
Often overlooked - some say the 40mm resembles the human vision the most - more than the 50mm.
I also review and test how capable this little pancake lens is and if it should be part of my Street photography kit.

Thank you for this video and a great review. It looks like a very nice lens in the hands of an experienced photographer. I like 40mm too. I had it on Olympus with 20mm and on Fuji with 27mm.

Just got this lens myself yesterday. Not impressed with the auto-focus. But that may be related to using an old NEX-5N I had laying around. I'll have to try it on my newer cameras.

its a nice small lens and produces good pictures I agree with you I tend to use it around 5.6 f8 its so small to carry its just a handy lens to own I have looked at other 40mm lenses but cant afford any at the moment my wife as the final say ha ha on the matter unless we don't speak for a while and I feel brave and go get one anyway.......it is good for street photography

Hi there. Thanks for reviewing the lens and sharing your experience with it. I love shooting 40mm for street photography. I use a Ricoh GRiiix, but own a Sony A7C as well. I was looking for a full frame pancake 40 mm lens for the A7c. There is a Viltrox lens coming out soon, its already out for Nikon Z mount. This TTArtisan 27mm is a better option in terms of size. Also it has an aperture ring which is handy because A7c only has one control dial which I use for shutter speed mostly. But shooting in APSC mode on A7c means loss of resolution. It would only shoot at 10 megapixels in that mode. Does loss of resolution cause any problems or limit your street photography experience?

Hi. Thank you 📸 It’s something to be aware of if you’d like to crop-in in post. 10mp does not give a lot of room for cropping. Best to have the intended composition as correct in camera as possible.

Excellent review! I am just considering this focal length for my next lenses. But here I am a bit confused, as per my understanding, the focal length (27mm in this case) is always expressed in reference to a full frame camera, so this lens would be 27mm in full frame (your Sony A7C), and 40.5 mm in APS-C. In any case, great video!

Thank you 🙏🏽 This specific lens is a apsc lens made for crop sensor cameras. I can use it on my full frame with the super 35mm feature on. So the entire FF is not used but only cropped. This way the focal length is 40mm equivalent. Hope it makes sense.

do you shoot in APSC Crop mode or full frame? I always wanted to get full frame and some of these TTartisan lenses but im scared about the downgrade of quality vs APSC

Currently i use 50mm,its challenging i often stand too close, i used to use just 35mm for many years, 35mm little easier.

Same “issue” with 50mm for me as well. Too tight for Street photography.

The 40mm focal length for full frame is good, but I doo prefer the 35mm focal length to get a bit more depth of field for my use. The focal length I think is the most boring are 28mm and 50mm, any focal length over/under 28 and 50mm length is ok, so fx 24mm and 35mm, and under 24mm. 40, 45 and 55mm and over.

I like the 40mm very much. Wanted to try it for a long time. Anything below 24mm is not for me but 55mm and above I also like to shoot with.

I got excited at the possibility of a pancake lens but this is a 27mm lens not a 40 for FF. You'd have to use the crop mode for it to work, bummer. Great review otherwise.
