Why do you still underexpose your photos when your histogram and zebras would warn you of blowing out highlights anyway? I always understood that exposing as far to the right as possible (without blowing out highlights) produces better raw files. Thx!
I usually recommend a person to analyze their focal length with their zoom lenses before committing to a prime lens. This will help guide a person to which prime fits their style best. I am almost a 50/50 split of 35 and 50mm when looking at my early photography shooting. Another great video!
I use a pair of A7c (mk 1)..and an even older A7s...these three (with some lenses) give me lots of fun in my street photography...(I am retired here in Bangkok) cheers. P.S. I left film when digital reached 6 mpx...never looked back...(nothing wrong with leica...I had a couple of 3F bodies way back... 35mm summaron was my favorite lens.)
I recommend you get a leica m2 or m4 and have it serviced. much cheaper and same build. for lightmeter i use my phone app and after many years of doing street photography I actually know the light by now. Foma 400 sunny daylight 1/500 f11-16, large streets with no direct light f8, shadowy areas f5.6 and it exposes perfectly. Once you get used to the process you dont need the internal lightmeter and in fact it will disturb you to see that the camera tells you to change exposure all the time. I had all the M analog cameras and for street photography I love my leica mda and m4, even though I also have Cl and m5 both with lightmeters. The lightmeter makes you miss the moment.
@@hipster_cph fomapan is absolutely lovely. I use 100 iso and 400 iso fomapan all the time. I shoot about 60 rolls a year of fomapan. Have fun with your m6, hope it serves you well. make sure to not advance the shutter and leave it advanced for over an hour or so it will mess up the shutter speeds (on any analog camera)
what site builder/ hosting are you using for your site and your blog, been thinking about building a new site that's more blog so I can write and host larger galleries, pretty over social media sites, and tumblr isn't it anymore and Flickr is basically gone and all the other version from yester year, also trying to avoid putting images that will be wiped for AI training
A Leica, while not necessarily the best camera, is an iconic one among photographers. With so many other priorities in my life, it's far beyond my means to afford one, but I would certainly love to own an M6. Yes, film is expensive, and even more so here in Brazil, where access to it is limited and import fees double the prices. But here we are, still shooting on film. It's hard to understand why some photographers in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia are giving up film photography. I'm not criticizing anyone's choices, but I do find it a bit strange. Best of luck with your channel! I was pleasantly surprised to come across it and have already subscribed.
I was thinking ..... my goodness i don't analyse my photography as much as you. But then I got to thinking.... yeaghh. We all do. Its just you said all yours out loud. 😂 Take care .... Steve. 😎📷👍😊👋
I bought a x30 back in 2015 and went back to it as a 2nd camera about a year ago. I fell back in love with it, and am anxiously awaiting my (back ordered) x100vi. Having a camera (as you say) like these that you take out all the time makes a huge difference.
I love your thoughtful approach to life and exploring the world within and without. I have found your channel, blog, and newsletters thought-provoking. Cheers from the USA.
Very interesting perspectives. I used Pentax DSLRs for years and loved them but about 2 years ago I started experimenting with street photography and found I wanted to use the back screen rather than the viewfinder. I had watched a video by travel photographer Mitchell Kanashkevich about using the back screen, until then I thought using the back screen wasn't real photography :-). Fast forward and sold my Pentax gear and got a Lumix GX85 mirrorless and some very small primes (I wanted something smaller, a tilt screen, live view on a DSLR isn't that great. Things I love about it. Size and weight, tilt screen. Love the small prime, I have 3 under 200 grams. Buttons and ergonomics, grip etc aren't as nice as on my Pentax and the view finder is awful but hardly ever use it. So I've gone from a snob that thought live view was for beginners to using it all the time. I wear glasses and honestly using live view is more comfortable than using a view finder. Question for your Ambreem which do you use the most, viewfinder, back screen or shooting from the hip?
Ambreem, thanks for addressing this important topic. I am passionate about reducing my digital use. I realized a few years ago that I wasn't reading books anymore. I've talked to many people that say they don't read anymore, most attribute it to their attention span being destroyed by digital use. About a year ago I made a concerted attempt to read books and also introduce more analog activities especially for the winter months, I also live in the northern hemisphere, I read 14 books last year, which is lower than my goal of 24 but 14 more than the year before! There are literally many hours we can reclaim in our lives if we get off digital junk. I recently listened to the audio book "Smart Phone Dumb Phone: Free Yourself from Digital Addiction" by Allen Carr and John Dicey. I will definitely read Cal Newport's book. You have some great reading suggestions on your website. BTW I have a copy of Fred Herzog "Modern Color". Just love it, especially as I lived in Vancouver at one time. Loved the creativity list, want to read Outliers and the War of Art. I just read Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love). I can't recommend this book highly enough to anyone that is on a creative journey, which should be all of us. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much. Yes we can definitely reclaim a lot of time for value and meaningful things besides digital junk. Also thanks for the book suggestions. I’ll put them on my to read list. My goal is 52 books this year. My average is good so far :)
I feel you on this I am a full-time music producer/engineer social media was stressing me out. I downloaded an app called "One Sec" which helped me forget about social media. I use photography as a secondary creative outlet when I'm stressed and working on projects I don't necessarily like but need for financial purposes. I think taking a break from social media and having other ways to be creative really helps you mentally
Yes, unfortunately the pull of social media is very strong. Street photography for me is a great way to distract myself in a meaningful way. I’ll check out “one sec” 👌🏽
I considered them all; mp, ma and m6. Ultimately it came down to which I liked the most and was drawn to. I don’t mind the red dot or the flashiness of the m6 over the two others. Really happy with my choice.
Very nice. You have great taste. I just ordered the same camera. I got the voigtlander 35mm ultron f/2 today and the camera should be here in 3 more days. Enjoy.
you change your mind becuase people like u buy it expecting all the work will be done in camera and people like us who actually use the camera not for its hype end up not getting it due to high demand. half of it was bought by hipsters and half by scalpers
Not true. I do not expect everything to be done in camera. 99% of the time I shoot in manual mode. People “like me” also just enjoy photographing from time to time without taking it too seriously. You can always buy the x100 m6 it should be readily available 👌🏽📸
@@hipster_cph Thanks for bringing your playlist to my attention. I now realize that I have seen some of the videos in your playlist. However, I was not aware of how many great videos you have in your playlist. For example, I really loved your video titled, “How to | Dreamy High Contrast Photographs.”
I had the Fujifilm x100 and one thing that was nice about it was; thinking in 35mm. I would look at a scene and know exactly what the photo would look like if I used that camera. Do you find this as well?
@@hipster_cph I will probably buy a V one day when the hype goes down. My X100 was very fun. I paid $40 for it and last year sold for $500 because of the hype.
Thought about trying one but I just can’t. Maybe if I had the money I’d consider it. I like your video though. Do you prefer the electronic or the optical viewfinder? Do you use it for any video?
Thanks 🙏🏽 I mostly use electronic vf but lately switched to using the ovf and turned off the lcd as well. Gives a little bit of that Leica range finder feeling :) I haven’t used it for video at all, it’s just to shaky in my nervous hands 😂
Sorry, but how is zone focusing different for different types of camera? I use RFs, mirrorless, SLRs etc and I do the same thing for each. Where am I going wrong?
I’m talking specifically about the Fuji x100v and its zone focus. The distance scale is not very reliable (jumps around) like we know from the rangefinders, SLR etc. Hope that clarifies.
@streetwalkerphoto in my experience the X100 does in fact work differently for zone focusing than other cameras. The lens does not have a hyperfocal distance scale and the focus ring can spin forever in both directions, meaning that the link between the focus ring and lens focus is electric, you don’t get any tangible feel for when the lens is at focused at infinity or at minimum focus distance. In my opinion the X100 is not an ideal camera for zone focusing.
J’ai acheté cet appareil en 2021 et il m’a redonné envie de photographier ! En voyage je ne prends que cet appareil … et trois batteries 😉 Et j’ai revendu le Canon R et ses lourds objectifs Merci pour la vidéo
interesting video I would love to try the camera out myself 35mm is my favourite focal length or 23mm =35mm EDC sounds good but I just cant settle on anything I'm always trying different lenses out ha ha my EDC is a XT30 at the moment one lens a 23mm f2 .......
