Join along as I make my last pass of cultivating corn for the 2021 growing season and work in the urea we spread the day before. Thanks for watching along and supporting
I have cultivated thousands of acres of corn , string beans , kidney beans , cabbage , beets , pumpkins , squash . If you like that rear mount attachment , you would love a front mounted one . Just saying if you ever buy one of your own , think about it . The front mount is far superior to the rear mounted as far as job performance , PERIOD .
Add some lilliston rolling cultivator wheels they'll throw the dirt around the stalks no weed pressure your corn looks great man we cultivate everything keep up the good work 👍👍
We used to drive through corn fields when I was in high school, we had no idea how much work went into it. We all had sheep and cattle to show at fairs. Now that I am old and see the struggle farmers have I feel bad for laying so much corn down as a teenager.
Duffy, I look forward to your daily videos. As a city greenhorn, I have learned about various pieces of equipment, use, repairs & the application of various chemicals. Your cranberry tutorial was very informative and interesting!
There’s another guy on RU-vid I came across who cultivates and puts down liquid at the same time. He said ground is hard so he needs to break it up so the liquid will absorb into the ground. Looking good Chris, can’t wait for tomorrow to see what your upto
We have never had a bad experience with one even using them as loader tractors loading round bales on tractor they are quick and easy to get around with
We had some dry weather on corn for 5 weeks. It was yellow and had spots where it didn’t grow. Once it started raining some of the spots didn’t come out of it. We sprayed for weeds and added a liquid fert with micronutrients. It kicked it in high gear. Got rain an it’s tasseling this week. We got lucky with the rain timing. My dad used to grow corn doing the high yield competitions back in the ‘70s. He always cultivated it. Even used one of those cultivators to side dress the fert every 2 weeks until it was too tall to get over it. Did real well back then. Your crops looking good. Hope you have good weather.
Thanks for the videos bud! Big fan located in Derry Nh, id like to stop down one of these days check out the farm and meet the legend! Keep on keeping on buddy, your hard work is much appreciated 🤙🏼
Corn looks really good. If your going to buy a cultivator for the future see about adding liquid fertilizer to it. Save you a pass threw it. We picked one up pretty cheap. Keep up the great work and fixing it never ends....
When I was a teenager it was my job on my uncle's farm to do the cultivating. And what we called side dressing the burley tobacco here in Kentucky. Used a little John Deere M model which is an offset tractor. One row at a time. Wouldn't work very well for you but I read some of the other comments and I can assure you the people telling you to front mounted cultivator are spot on. Saves your neck.
So, the search begins for a planter and like-sized cultivator, both matched to a specific tractor. The tractor CAN be used for other tasks…… but WILL be used for those two duties. If ya wanna make the locals talk about you, find an old Allis Chalmers G model. The implements mount under the frame with the engine in the rear……they are little workhorses and turn heads wherever they go………”Farming”
Thanks for your daily videos, interesting to follow you daily program. I would be interested in seeing something of your Delaval robot work, if farmers and the company allows. I did watch Mass dairy but would be interested in more about robots, the successes and problems.
Funny how people are my old neighbor got on me for using poison ivy killer. His lawn guy was mowing one day so I asked how he keeps that lawn so beautiful....spring pre emergent, fertilizer, grub control, fungus spray, tenacity, and many other things....... brush killer for poison ivy is nothing compared to all the crap he put on that lawn..
As if you need recommendations on videos to watch. "The Rest of the Story" cultivates just to side dress liquid fertilizer. Travis explains his actions similar to your commentary. "Geiger Farm" is a 30-40 year organic farm, he has 4-6 different cultivators, specific to the field needs, the crop and crop growth. He has a rather detailed video on his cultivators.
That tractor is ideal for the job.... a set of row crop wheels would make it perfect. There must be loads of second hand row crops laying about in dealers yards that wouldn't break the bank.
you have the resorses right at your finger tips, why not try doing a Manture Injection?? save money for fertalizer I took a 12 foot deep till cultivator making a 8 inch spacing of just the regular shanks i made a shoe to fit the shanks, using peices of the cultivator to build my injector i made mounts on back of one truck and tank to work like a 3 point hitch, run lines from discharge pipe of our regular spreader system and regulator it worked so awesome. in your case you could set on row spacing and use the truck as a nurse tank to fill off as you inject. who i worked for i spent early years i was with him doing nothing but developing better ways to spread from lagoons, injecting, making the tanks and pump systems way more efficient. I will say i do really miss costum lagoon cleaning it was long tiring days and alot of work for me keeping all 9 trucks moving. but was best years for me
Rest of the story has tanks on his cultivator for liquid. I plan on trying y drops next year split applications I believe are going to keep money in your pocket
My neighbor has a John Deere 6 row front mount that they put on a 4020 they brought it in the early 80’s used it for 3 years maybe only 2 it would be for sale south central Pa
Reminds when I was a teen ager on the farm. Dozed off and wiped out a few rows at an angle. Glad you did not fall asleep. You can wipe out a few rows in a hurry.
Duffy you sure whip a lone with that cultivator it dose seem to control the weeds. How bad is the damage to a corn plant when it gets run over dose it kill it.
I don't know what John deere makes as a replacement but could almost use for cultivating a John deere 5520 high crop. Could use it for spraying and possibly cultivating. Have a great weekend.
Would be nice if they made a cultivator for highboy tractors got fertilizer sprayers for them. Your up high and can see where you drove last in the rows. Plus they turn sharper.
Check out Laura Farms. They do what they call hilling. Wider shoe and wings behind that builds dirt at the stalk which buries the weeds. Incorporate some liquid nitrogen youd be done
Corn needs rotary hoe when emerging to about 2/3 inches in height.... if you can find one a LILLISTON ROLLING CULTIVATOR WOULD WORK GREAT...CHECK WITH Newton crouch fertilizer equip manufacturing in Georgia. They build good products for fertilizer applications
I have to ask the obvious, do you wash your hands after eating, before you resume driving. You know, don't want to get food grease on the steering wheel. 🤣 Seriously though, I spent many hours on the seat of a John Deere A with a front mounted 4 row cultivator. I used a rear mount once but prefer front mount. Front mount tied up the tractor for the season though.
If it rains in this corn patch in the next two days your corn won't be knee high on 4th of July, but waist high on a sasquatch. About the liquid tanks. The corn mostly recovers if run over once now. Load that tractor with liquid and the turning proportions of the field will suffer but the rows will probably make up for the squished plants by far. What was nice about the applicator you have is you can vary the speed thus nitrogen deficient plants can get honked on. You actually need a drone to put the mag on because you might not see the response like nitrogen. One of those big honking drones that look menacing. With your farming moxie the father figure will have to double the bunk space. You are going to the next level and you need to grab father figures ear and drag him along boyo. Just don't get hurt AND hook up with a quality woman. BRITTAINY might help you spiritually a lot if she wants half a dozen chilluns. The reason I feel comfortable about talking to you is I am three times your age.
