Welcome to the coven! If you like girl groups that plot revenge in mini skirts and won't hesitate to call on the powers of the universe, then you'll love this full movie reaction to The Craft!
Skeet Ulrich and Neve Campbell met while filming this movie and when Wes Craven asked her to audition for Sidney, she refused because she didn't want to do another horror movie so soon after The Craft, Skeet then reached out to her and told her he was involved too and convinced her to audition for Scream 🥰
It's very ironic that this and Scream were both released in 1996, with The Craft being released in May and Scream being released about five days before Christmas in December.
They all didn't lose their powers. They were leeching Sarah's power. The other three had no power of their own at any point. That's why nothing they did worked until she showed up. So, when they turned on her, they got cut off. No more leeching. But what they DID manage was to fully wake up Sarah to her own power. It was a pretty dumb move to try killing the one person who was the reason they had all that power they abused. But I don't think they knew they were leeching off of her.
They got high on the magic and thought that meant they had the power and the right to do anything to anyone - the older witch from the store tried to warn all of them but they wouldn't listen. I think that happens a lot in stories about various kinds of magic, messing with spells they think they're powerful enough to control when actually they don't, and learn the hard way that they're not as skilled as they think they are.
I wonder if Sarah's mother powers were passed to her & she died from that? I don't know why, but it reminded me of The Darkness comic book series. Just saying ..
You would think that at least one of them - maybe not Nancy, because she was pretty well borked in the head - had realized, "Hey, we were nothing before she came along. And if we kill her, we might go right back to being nothing. So how about if we all sit down, cool our heads and talk through this disagreement of ours?" I wonder why that scene with Sarah, Bonnie and Rochelle talking about Nancy going mad with power only for Nancy to show up at that very moment, berate the hell out of Bonnie and Rochelle and intimidate them into turning against Sarah got left on the cutting room floor. That scene explains *_so_* much! It should have been left in the final release!
I was thinking the same thing. Sydney is a fighter with a strong sense of morality, concern for others, and a real individual. Bonnie is a hangers on and follower.
Don't forget about Wild things. She did that around the same time and on there she was a killer lol. It was filmed in 97 but came out in 98. At one of the award shows that Scream won at she had the red hair for the production of Wild Things.
NEVE is an amazing actress ❤ she can do drama(party of five, Scream, Castle in the Ground, clouds, House of Cards, Mad Men, Wild Things and Panic) she can play a villain (The Craft, Medium..,) she can do comedy ( Drowning Mona, 3 to tango..) she can do musical( Reefers Madness) she can play a ballarine (The Company) she can be a bad as# in an action movie(Skyscraper) and she can do Theather ( love song, Ressurection Blues and the phaton of opera..) and many other characters ❤ I LOVE NEVE CAMPBELL❤ ❤
I've been a Wiccan since 1987 and I'll tell ya what... I will remain a solitary practitioner because I have seen some serious drama in covens.... While the witchcraft in the film is obviously exaggerated, the human drama part of it is pretty on point
"We ARE the weirdos, Mister." This is one of my 90s favs! Always happy to see Sarah show the gorls who is really "dat witch," lol And the mini "Scream" reunion is chef's kiss.
I love this movie, but it always bothered me that they try to make you feel sorry for the racist bully. You know exactly what you did to deserve that, Marcia Brady.
I didn’t think we were supposed to feel sorry for her. I think we were supposed to see how the incident made her see the error of her ways which is why she later apologizes for her bullying
at least she got some humility - at that party when she was wearing an obvious and frankly terrible wig and was trying to be polite to Rochelle, asking 'how are you?' and stuff like that. Though it was definitely a case of too little too late. Here's hoping at some point she'll have enough humility to actually apologise to Rochelle, though I know that that would also be a case of too little too latte.
I’m thinking that Sarah was the only one who was an actual witch. She just didn’t know about it she just caused things to happen. The others were practitioners and let Sarah complete their coven so she was the source of their supernatural power.
I do wonder 🤔. Sarah clearly had the only natural affinity but couldn’t control it before their combined grounded practice. She might not have ever known her power without them, but they couldn’t do anything without access to her innate ability. This is why I wish they all coulda witched together 😭😭😭
The concept of witchcraft was always appealing to me. That's why "Charmed" is my favourite show of all time. This movie introduced me to that feeling. Also "Hocus Pocus", a Halloween classic!
Both Sidney and Billy Loomis were in this the same year Scream came out but it was released before Scream. If Scream came out a year before The Craft, boffum would be the leads in this one. They did Rachel True so wrong during the release of this movie. She wasn’t invited to any of the awards show, she was ignored during the press junkets and promotional spots on tv. But the other three leads stepped up and said all of us or nothing. It’s a shame because Rachel True always has been fine to me, she was the sister Mona in Half and Half.
That wig tho. Too bad she cut her hair in empire records. I heard it was Fairuza Balk that reall spoke up the most. When life imitates art imitating life amma right?
@@razycrandomgirl so the way they treated her in the movie. Was real. I feel bad for her it's no different to how they treated Bonnie on vampire diaries.
I had no idea they treated Rachel True like that!!! 🤯 Racism in Hollywood is so powerful. People think it got better by the 90s, but it really didn't. Hell, it still sucks now...
It’s honestly shameful how they treated Rachel True irl while promoting a movie where her character was the victim of racism. I listened to a podcast where she was talking about how Neve Campbell (who was the most famous) stood up for her which is awesome of Neve, but it should have never come to that.
The spell on Chris always disturbed me the most. How quickly it backfires and he becomes irrational and even attacks Sarah. Won't listen to reason or anything.
15:35 There's a deleted scene that's supposed to take place after we see Bonnie asking Manon to take her scars while Nancy tending to her back. In the deleted scene she asks Sarah for help specifically and Sarah does something with various herbs including sage, supposed to indicate once again that she was the only natural witch among them, hat she was the one who healed the scars because Manon favoured her. If they had kept it it would've been a particularly backstabbing character development for Bonnie.
Just a brief note from someone who recently discovered your channel: You are a FANTASTIC reactor. You edit films perfectly, with an intuitive knack to key in on all the best moments to include in your edits, and your reactions are genuine, fun, and enthusiastic. Top tier in the world of reacts, bravo.
I’ve said for years that The Craft is the original Mean Girls. Group of 3 looking for a new member. The leader who thinks she’s above everyone else and has insane jealously and wants to hurt people. The quiet subservient one who wants to make the leader happy. The one who is a freethinker but stays in the group so she won’t be alone. The new girl who bonds too quickly, gets the guy, turns on the leader…ya know. Lol. The Craft is Mean Girls before Mean Girls was Mean Girls. Lol.
girl I’ve had a truly terrible week and you’re really coming through for me here with 90s nostalgia, witches AND my girl Neve. I’ll have you know that you are appreciated and adored♥️
"she doesn't want to be white trash anymore or something but I'm like...you're white honey...deal with it" best line in the movie and they gave it to miss Racheal True
@@ayaa.1351 Erm...nope. It was showcasing that the spell was working. Manon gave her breadcrumbs that led to the Invoking the Spirit book. They weren't meant to remember what she asked for because otherwise that would have been an obstacle to getting Manon's power.
Oh yeeeaaaah! This movie was everything to me when it first came out. So many memories. Even my friends and I tried that “light as a feather, stiff as a board” we all swore she lifted a little bit and that’s the story we are sticking to lmao
Omg. Practical Magic. I LOVED the Owens' house. When my spell comes into effect and I become rich enough to live deliciously; I will buy a house just like theirs.
Have you seen "The Witches" (1990) with Angelica Huston? It's full of amazing, creepy SFX & Angelica is SO delightfully mean as the Grand High Witch on a killing spree.^^ The true queen of the dark! Btw, your videos make me laugh & forget all the current wickedness for a while. Thank you Alanda! :))
My friends and I were so deep into our Wicca phase when this movie came out. I had SO. MANY. witchcraft books. I kinda wish I still had them just for posterity's sake (still have Uncle Bucky's Big Blue Book...if you know, you know). I remember reading a review of this in a Wicca publication at the time and the reviewer said they liked that the witches weren't all portrayed as evil- that instead of the normies fighting the scary witch, it was Sarah (with Lirio's help), a good witch, trying to stop other witches who were drunk on power. Also, at the end of the movie, it wasn't that only Sarah was allowed to keep her powers, it was that the others never had any to begin with. They couldn't do real spellwork until they brought Sarah into the circle. All of the spells they were then able to do were because in the circle, they could draw on Sarah's innate gift to have their will be done. That's why they were left powerless in the end- the circle was broken and they had to go back to "normal". The movie doesn't state that outright, but it's very heavily implied, especially through Sarah's conversation in the beginning with Lirio in her shop. This movie speaks to all of us as women who are on the cusp of feeling their own adult power, no magic necessary. A perfect bookend after watching the truly excellent and universal Turning Red.
I read that unlike many other movies with witches where the wiccan community has organized protests, for this movie they organized a pro-movie chant and the director said that their boxoffice opening weekend WAS better than expected so that it seemed to have worked. Although he said it in a jovial way. Turning Red is good? I'll check it out.
In Practical Magic I thought it was really funny when Sandra Bullock's character mobilizes the neighborhood to help her with excorcising her possessed sister by "Coming Out" as a witch.
Practical Magic does so much for me to this day🥰! Imma OG Sandra Bullock Lover and “witch, witch, you’re a bitch” is still the meanest/ most hilarious child bullying I’ve ever seen! And thank you so much 💛
@@AlandaParker Would love if you'd "react" to practical magic on the channel! You've obviously seen it, but I would just love to watch you vibe out to it and vibe with you! Its one of my favorites ^.^
Yay! The Craft... LOVE ALL OF MY ICONIC 90s WITCHES (Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, The Craft, Buffy and Charmed) 🖤🧙🏼♀️🖤 I remember doin' that pencil trick all the time at school for years afterwards ✏ Your "Sure Jan" at Laura (AKA Christine Stiller) who played Marcia Brady in the 90s reboot movies was PRICELESS 😂
I loved this as a kid, along with Charmed, Buffy, Harry Potter. These movies and shows were my CHILDHOOD HERE!!!! Thank God you chose this classic. But one bit of advice, don't watch the sequel, it is a stain on this CLASSIC!!!!
Charmed, Buffy and Ghost whisperer are forever my favourite TV shows and I still watch all of them constantly!! Like I don't have cable so the only TV shows I actually watch are repeats and I love it so much 🔮😍
I’m a practicing witch and I love my children. Snakes, spiders and insects are all powerful creatures and I draw strength from them. This wouldn’t even phase me it’s my dream haha. To note, I never ever engage in sacrificing any living being, it’s wrong and envokes powerful evil, I only use shedded skins, webs and the creatures themselves if they have passed away. Hornets and wasps nest are especially powerful when used with nightshade to hex or protect.
You should spend some time around them first in order to realize they have unique personalities and you will start to see them as you do any animal like dogs or cats. You don’t have to hold them if you don’t prefer and more often than not they prefer to be left alone. However if you want a connection to the earth you must understand the value and importance of all things, even ones that frighten you. It’s more a battle of conquering yourself. Take your time with them and they will teach you many things, draw from this strength. They will teach you the true meaning of survival, how to do it alone, how to overcome enemies twice your size and strength. Let them be your guides and you will not regret it.
I love snakes, but that scene with hundreds of them slithering all over amongst the other creepy crawlies just traumatized my child self lol. I had nightmares about it for sure. I love this movie though.
Yeah, I might have gone through a Wiccan phase in my youth because of this movie 😅 Fun fact - Robin Tunney has that wig because of filming Empire Records previously. I highly recommend if you love a movie with a great soundtrack!
In an extremely rough spot in life (ex said were getting married lived together 2+ years, all a lie and took off after taking everything from me sitting in an empty house wondering wtaf I'm gonna do)...this channel has helped me so much, the nostalgia etc of your vids are top notch. Thank you
I’m so sorry it’s so hard right now 🥺. I’m sending you love and joy and also hoping that you luck into the most stunning set of revenge furniture. It won’t be horrible forever, love 😭💛
Thats horrible. I know I'm just a random but I went through a divorce from a cheating husband...I know the pain. You'll get through it and be okay, you deserve better.
Fariuza Balk who plays Nancy, mentioned that while making this movie they did incorporate real spellwork and incantation. See, it seems that Balk is a believer and I think practices a bit on the side. She wanted to add a little bit of authenticity. She went on to say that the spells they did worked a little too well, and that there was a certain vibe throughout the making of the film. I think the reason why I hate hate the stupid continuation/remake is that it offers nothing new really...it tries way too hard to be different the changes were on a superficial level.
Courtney Cox has a new tv show on starz called Shining Vale. She’s a filthy speaking author like Gale Weathers living in a haunted house. It’s kind of perfect. 👍
This movie was a great movie but another movie that is also great is the movie "Christine" the movie was released in 1983 its about a Unpopular nerd Arnie Cunningham buys a 1958 Plymouth Fury, which he names Christine. Arnie develops an unhealthy obsession with the car, to the alarm of his jock friend, Dennis Guilder. After bully Buddy Repperton defaces Christine, the auto restores itself to perfect condition and begins killing off Buddy and his friends. Determined to stop the deaths, Dennis and Arnie's girlfriend, Leigh Cabot, decide to destroy Christine.
Yes! The original "The Craft" was one of the best movies! I miss the 1990's. If you liked this movie, check out, "5ive Girls." (yes, with the number 5.) It's from 2006 but it's similar to "The Craft."
@@introgeek5278 Definitely. I was hoping to see more in that movie but yeah, the low-budget placed some constraints on that. Still a pretty good movie.
Seeing this re-watch I never noticed Billy Loomis was in this movie as well, nor that they were both released the same year!! The 90s fashions, especially the hair & make up in this movie, takes me back! Also I agree I couldn't see why it had to be they were fighting each other and couldn't support one another.
Wiccan witch here. I was eight when this film came out, so I didn't grow up with it at the time, but it's an amazing snapshot of the era: The clothes, the music, the fact that being into any spiritual path other than Christianity was genuinely edgy, etc. I was raised Christian and didn't discover witchcraft until later (and thankfully, my family is accepting of my practice), but I wish I'd been into it back then and had been old enough to see this film in theaters. Jealous of '90s teens. Blessed be.
Charmed is what got me interested in witchcraft but The Craft is what got me to research Wicca and discover my religion. I love this movie. While over the top at times for cinema, it is one of the best representations of modern witchcraft. I absolutely loved your reaction. Made me smile so much. If you have never seen Practical Magic, or even if you did a while ago, I highly recommend that as your next reaction. It is probably the BEST WITCH MOVIE ever made.
Your videos are my fave! I was so excited to see that The Craft was this week, I was 18 when this movie came out, and my friends and I were obsessed. We were all very into Wicca at the time, which I think was common for a teenage girl in the 90s. I always felt like they did Nancy dirty. Was she a little power hungry? Sure. But she got rid of her abusive stepfather and the guy who tried to assault her friend. Her heart was in the right place.
Your Sunday morning videos give me life. I also love this masterpiece of a movie and I'm so glad this is what we are watching today. You look gorgeous, as always.
This movie is up in my top 10 maybe even my top 5! Not only did Neve & Skeet kill it in 96 with the craft & scream but this movie opened my eyes to soooo much. I was 4 when it came out so at that age I didn’t understand all of the undertones to the movie but as I grew up it was a great coming of age film for me! Definitely got me interested in magic , something I’m still really interested in but never really known where to start looking 😂 such a classic film! 🖤
The Craft (right next to The Crow & Fear) are in my 1st 3 favorite films of the 90s because they’re truly nostalgic & make me wish that I could relive the 90s all over again, even if I was a kid LOL 😁✌🏼 Keep it up with the phenomenal job on your channel ‘cuz I live for your movie commentary/reactions, Alanda 🤗👋🏼❤️💕
I loved this movie a lot when this came out, but had to keep it a bit of a secret. Cause a young teenage boy loving a witch movie back then leads to some particular insults on a boys sexuality.
I remembered reading about weird things happening behind the scenes, especially during the "Calling of the Corners scene when the girls have assembled on the beach to recite their incantation, the ocean waves kept putting out the fire they had made. This happened despite the park ranger having said the tide would not come in.
That's impossible! Me and Neve are on a NY weekend trip and I do not remember meeting y- wait...omg. Joel is that you?! Omg. i'm so sorry! Ofcourse we remember you. Neve says 'hi', btw. She really appreciated you lending her the 5 dollars.
Lol for those wondering there was a 90’s con in Connecticut this weekend and I attended to meet Neve because she was one of the guest celebrities. She was so sweet and took a lot of time with each person in line.
Not gonna lie, the outfit you’re rocking is giving me very Kiki’s Delivery Service tease. Also, fun fact, the scene where they’re walking in slow mo at the school was later copied by the cartoon X-Men Evolution. Love this movie. Kinda wanna see the sequel even though it has bad reviews.
1 of my absolute favorite things to EVER come out of the '90s! Also, my first intro to Neve... AND Wicca, for that matter! The music, the spiritual acknowledgements, the fashions, the jewelry, the emotions, this movie left an indelible impact on 12-year-old me (I saw it on rented VHS a couple years after release)! Thank you, Alanda, for adding your own magic touch to this delicious cinematic brew! ❇✴Blessed be!✴❇ 🕯🕯🌌🌚🌟🔮🕯🕯
I mean The Craft, the look, the stellar commentary, and a Little Mix reference. You never disappoint. This movie has such a special my in my heart. So much nostalgia. I used to watch this every time it came on TV no matter what part it was on, I’d watch from there to the end.
'The Craft'! As a late 90s teen I really miss this era, the films and the shows. I was (and still am!) so into this and 'Charmed' and especially 'Buffy'.
Man! Such an impactful movie when I was growing up. Still so good! And yes the aesthetic!! Perfection. I took a live stream tarot class from Rachel True during quarantine and she was utterly delightful.
I. Am. So. Happy that you are reacting to this movie. I love this movie so much. I always saw this as a social commentary on how one’s retaliation against bullying can go too far. Thereby becoming just as much of a bully, if not worse.
I swear I’ve been obsessed with your videos for the longest now! Love how you’ve turned into a horror fan!! ❤️ Also remember my mom would’ve let me watch this movie for the longest because it’ll let the devil in. Once I got older, I’m like really mom? 😂
As a natural witch myself I’m so here for this movie and the message. Whatever you comes back to you times 3. My teachers have all thought me this. Love and peace to all. May god bless guide and protect you fam. Join my coven / lodge 22teachings in Los Angeles
