Yuma's injury to the talus is a tough one. The talus is weight-bearing and takes forever to rehab ( I had a double fracture of the talus and cartilage.) I hope he can return in a healthy manner. Love Shoma, congrats to him, Kaori, Daisuke & Kana. Really enjoyed Mone as well.
@Melissa-yr7fm
@Melissa-yr7fm Год назад
I shattered my talus from skating. Just landed a triple toe. Got a little too excited, too much adrenaline and it just messed up my timing when I went to show a friend. I came out at 2.5 rotations, forward with my right toe pick stuck until the ice. My body kept rotating around my stuck foot. The tib/fib ended up acting as a drill and they drilled into my talus. It made a literal circle opening, with the rest of the bone so shattered. The doctor said it was like trying to make chicken salad out of a chicken. If you need surgery there, they usually cut lengthwise into the tendon on the inside of your ankle as it’s better than cutting the tendon into two pieces, as there is such poor blood supply to the tendons and to bone. It take forever to heal. Even with a top surgeon, plenty of great rehab, (and rehab to this day, 15 years later), the injury still gets swollen and still has issues. Best of luck to Yuma. Talus injuries are one of the worst places to get injured for figure skaters. The talus bone specifically takes 4-8 times a skaters body weight each time a jump is landed. My surgeon told me to stay as lean and fit as possible to help with the talar functionality.

unpopular opinion, but does anyone else really enjoy following Sofia Murieva? I know her programs are sort of tacky, but I just think she has the best PCS out of the Russian ladies and the consistency of her triple axel has been impressive. She keeps making small mistakes, but I keep finding myself rooting for her despite disliking Plushenko.
@amethyst5512

Her technique is better than the Eteri crowd, but her tacky costumes, programs, and lack of understanding of how to use her height to her advantage make her a hard watch. Maybe she’ll get better at those things with time.

You're not alone. Her footwork sequences and spins are AMAZING as well. I do think she does have a better chance of longevity when compared to Kami, Sofia A., and Adelia, simply because of her superior jump technique. She also has some nice musical sensitivity, I just wish she had better programs (the SP is fine but the FP is just horrible).

Just adding update about Shoma being unhappy about the world/4cc selections, today there are news that coaches and skaters were equally unsatisfied with the assignments and JSF held a meeting with skaters and coaches to explain their decisions. The head of the selection committee then promised to explain the selection criteria to each coaches for next season so skaters know what to do if they’re aiming for world/4cc, especially if they don’t have GP assignments prior to national due to reasons like world standing/injuries. There is also speculation that Yuma’s team were hoping for a spot but he’s not even listed for an alternate so they’re one of the dissatisfied party.
@RedShoes29

Yuma sat out the entire season because of an injury, his team needs to get their heads out of their asses. Even Yuzuru had to show up for Nationals to qualify for Beijing.
@amethyst5512
@amethyst5512 Год назад
Yuma should not be surprised. He sat out the whole season and wasn’t close to the podium here. You have to give them something to select you on. Although he clearly needs more time as he wasn’t ready yet, so this is a good thing for him whether he likes it or not. I thought I heard his name for university games, if he really goes to that, he should take it easy with the content and keep his recovery slow and steady.
@hirota505
@hirota505 Год назад
According to the former rules, Yuma was eligible because he has Olympic medals. I do think putting Yuma out is reasonable because it seems that he needs more time to recover from his injuries. However, he risked his career to participate the JNat because there had been a similar case like that before more than once. It could have been understandable for Yuma if he were listed alternate for World/4CC. The lack of respect to the athletes caused this confusion.

@@RedShoes29 Yuma did attend Jnats this year. Also according to JSF selection criteria Yuma qualifies for a spot because he’s a former Olympic and world medalist and his world standing is higher than Sota/Kazuki/Shun so it’s not totally unreasonable for them to ask for explanation especially if they’re aiming for Yuma to recover by world.

Shoma didn’t explain the reason when he was asked at the press conference. Maybe there had been some unsaid rules which were quite political.

It is not true these days that Russian lady skaters with quads are essentially limited to one rink (i.e. Tutberidze) as you suggested. Other clubs try to catch up and now have girls who already demonstrated quads this season. Several girls in Plushenko camp do quads, although most of them are juniors. Gorbacheva from another club did a fantastic 4S at the nationals. Zinina from yet another club does regularly 4T. Samodelkina from a different team is capable of quads, but was not successful lately. And of course, I do not even mention the Tutberidze girls here. It is easy to say that they are on drugs. The advantage Russians have is that figure skating is probably number one sport for girls. They are motivated to be famous like Zagitova or Scherbakova or Trusova or Valieva, which also brings a lot of money from sponsors and lucrative jobs on TV. It is easier to find talents among a large pool of skaters than from a small pool like in most other countries. And the conditions the advanced skaters have are super. Plushenko has his own territory with rinks and private houses for a few best skaters to live next to the rink without wasting time in traffic. Trusova and Kostornaya lived in such houses when they were with him. The new rinks for Tutberidze are also under construction.

Koshiro has been w Lambiel for yrs and I do not see great posture or stretch. I think he is delightful...but, he needs more work..Tell me how Sota's SS are better than Kazuki's..I do not see it.
@lollypop2414
@lollypop2414 Год назад
I don't think Koshiro's posture is bad, but I do think a lot of what makes a skater beautiful, or artistic, is inherent to the skater themselves. Also, it's easier to have time to work on the little things when a skater is consistent with the big elements (Shoma for example being capable of 5 quads, solid footwork, etc.) than when a skater is still trying to master the big technical elements (Koshiro needing to be more consistent with jumps, more crisp with footwork, etc.). Also worth noting, Shoma did ballet for years growing up and quit when he became a senior level skater (but Lambiel has pushed him into picking that up again). It's apparent in his posture and extension. I'm guessing not all of the Japanese men have had a lot of ballet training, and obviously some would have more natural ability in ballet than others too. Kazuki had worked so hard to improve his SS over the years! I think he and Sota are close when it comes to basic skating. Kazuki is definitely a better performer, but Sota is better with spins.

RE: Semenenko and miraculous recoveries. It's not just the concussion from April. He said on Sunday that after the test skates he had a severe knee injury. To be more exact, scans showed that only 1/5 of the condyle remained intact, so almost a full fracture. The test skates were three months ago. I'm not too surprised that he recovered so fast considering Shcherbakova once went from almost passing out after a short program to skating a free program with two quads as if she were a marathon runner in peak shape and that recovery only took 24 hours. 3 months must be an eternity for these people.

Curious with the Russian doping situation why whatever they're taking that seems to allow them to train longer/harder seems to work for the women but not the men? Different coaches and training regimes? The men in recent years have been so so inconsistent and to be honest pretty sloppy, which I find kind of interesting. Or perhaps Eteri just has some magic pills everyone else doesn't lol. Kamila looks like a completely different person physically from the start of this year - she looks like an adult woman now, very much like Alina in the year following the Olympics. It's such a rapid change I have to wonder if they just stop giving them puberty blockers after the Olympics are done or something... In saying that, I actually really like both Kamila's programmes this year (tacky starts and endings aside), she is interpreting a lot more (her gala programme is really interesting too - not my cup of tea, but by far the most I have ever seen her emote). That quad toe really is stunning, I actually was like ' WOW' when I saw it. Totally agree Russia and Japan were like watching two different worlds though. In Japan, I hate to say this but I thought Mao looked slow :/ Sorry Dave lol. Her jumps are also quite small although the landings are beautiful. I still much prefer Kaori's speed and flow and just overall big beautiful skating. Mao is definitely a little ray of sunshine, but still looks very young and 'small' compared to some of the others. Also, props to Shoma for finally doing a quad-triple and for doing three combinations in his free! I can't remember the last time both of those things happened in one programme haha!

They key with the drugs is that they allow you to train more than is normally possible. You still have to actually do the work. It’s very clear some of those Russian men don’t do run throughs. Dope can only get you so far. And if you aren’t self motivated or don’t have someone like Eteri pushing you, it’s still not going to happen. Remember how she said she prefers girls. It’s because of how young girls are much easier to psychologically push to such limits, to ignore the signs of injury, and do whatever they’re told. And those who defy are shunned.

I practiced gymnastics in Romania in the early 2000s, until I hit puberty, and it is exactly how you put it, a Deus ex Machina, lacking in emotion or artistry. I hated myself and the sport in those times. I saw the same thing in the Russian girls in figure skating. The methods only work with waif like little girl. First off, she isn't training with Eteri and doing the crazy numbers that they tell us they do in training. Liza is obviously very talented and has had very good technique. She also had years when she was unable to do much of anything and that cannot be discounted either. I do greatly admire her ability to come back from those challenging years. When we talk about internal loads, it is interesting to look at how many events she did during 2014-15 (when she admitted to being on Meldonium). Kamila’s urine sample was taken on 2021 12.25 during the Russian competition, neither her or her coach are stupid enough to take such banned medicine at such time. The urine samples arrived Sweden lab on 2021 12.28 but the testing result was not released until 2022 0208 when Kamila won the group medal for Russia, and USA is the silver medal winner. Who is the 1st beneficial party of the doping scandal? The criminal/result is apparent. It was WADA delayed the testing result unusually and leaked Kamila’s identity which caused such drama and permanent damage for Kamila. Yet nobody accused or plan to sue WADA IOC and media for their crimes. The grandfather’s medicine story proves in further that Kamila was honest & innocent, as within that short response time during Olympics, Kamila was so shocked of the testing result and checked all the possible ways of how TMZ went into her body. Her grandfather did had TMZ to treat his heart disease, so she told CAS the fact. Yet western medias and haters use this info bullied Kamila viciously in further. WADA is an org controlled by USA. WADA has double standards and it’s legal system is 500 years outdated and is evil. WADA grants US and European athelets with doping exemptions secretly while putting a lot common medicines on the ban list without solid scientific proof of boosting performance level. WADA is a political weapon used to persecuting the opponent nations’ talents. The whole WADA CAS, SWISS Court system is extremely corrupted, evil and unfair to athelets. CAS and WADA need to be trialed and reformed. I am not a Russian, I am just a fan of figure skating. I have been watching figure since Michelle Kuan era. I have never seen a figure skating genius like Kamila Valieva. I believe she is innocent and the case need to be dismissed immediately. Kamila is the treasure of this planet and need to be supported, protected. Let this figure skating genius continue skating!

The gold and silver medallists at the GP final, Sakamoto's sudden turnaround in form and conditioning at a domestic event is all very suspicious. It's so suspicious Mai Mihara with arthritis and living in pain can win a gold medal against the best in the world. This is not normal. Then you look at her tiny fragile build, tiny diminutive height for a 23 year old it's so suspicious and strange. Akateva at 15 is the same height and build (Akateva are lot stronger build). Then Levito is so thin and fragile looking yet some how second best in the world. Not to mention her jump technique being bad she's going to hurt herself. She'll be forced out of the early like Liu.

Ilia is American. He was born in Virginia and grew up there. He has never lived in Russia, so Russia is not his "old country." His parents are Russian, so he is technically Russian-American, but he is still American, just like Italian-Americans are American. As for drugs, who knows, but Russia is the only country at this point that has been proven to have state-sponsored doping.

Re choreo sequence- Kanadai’s RD seq has more changes of holds and Latin moves compared to Piper and Paul’s where she’s grinding up against him 🤢and overacting at the judges yet we all know who gets the bigger score. It’s a defacto ordinal mechanism.

New Eterie Girls (Akatieva, etc) and Petr Gumenik at his best. Every second was just a privilege to watch. (more interesting then the Europeans or worlds)

This is just a WADA/NATO channel now. Just post out the medals next year, 50% to the USA, 40% to Japan and 10% for the rest.
