Watching this a second time shows this man was quite intelligent. He learned that an on the spot attempt wouldn't work and that the pain would stop him. He'd need to be medicated and make sure no one could se what he was doing till it was too late. He kept his ears and eyes open and thought of a better plan. Abi Keast abi imagine you have stolen someone’s wedding ring after there husband died. You carry guilt and Ashament. Or your carrying something so bad you just want to get it out. For me as such it felt I stole your limb and I needed to return it. Or that I have an additional leg that i know nobody notices but for me everytime someone looks at me they are looking at my stolen leg. Abi I respect that you have such integrity I know a lot of people who shame me but I’m so happy in my life before I contemplated suicide every day. I suppose it’s like being gay, you feel different about yourself and just need to change no matter what people think of you. It’s like why do transgender people transition because they were born in the wrong body same with me my leg felt like it wasn’t mine. Unfortunately a lot people do this for attention however I’m not like that I needed to remove it or it’s like I needed to transition.

catheseries I think to begin with my husband married me and I married him for him not his body parts or his physical features all though that matters. He understood my condition and respected me. It was very hard for him to understand more then anything. But now I’m loving life and that’s what is important to him. I told my daughters that mummy has got a bubu in her head that makes her feel sad about her leg and when mummy removed her leg and gets a new one I will be the best mummy for you. And yes I can have prosthetic legs it’s just my own original leg that was no belonging to me.

Seriously the best doctor in series and I hope I can become like him. It seems like he's studied a lot of German and french idealism in the sense of self and respects that there is nothing absolute and we have to see other people's experiences, because that's what medicine is based on. It’s not so much they think they should have a disability, it’s more feeling like that limb or whatever it is isn’t yours and doesn’t belong on your body. Not in a sense of ‘I should just have one arm’ it’s more ‘this isn’t mine and I don’t know what to do other than get rid of it’

I like everything about this story apart Dr. Charles feeling down for not being able to foresaw this outcome. While the patient's condition has already been described, no doctor should blame himself for not being able to prevent such an outcome. It's true that, from a certain point of view, it was an happy ending, but the ''best'' happy ending would have been the patient being able to cope with his pathology, so it was normal for Charles to aim to that.

Gender dysphoria used to be called gender identity disorder and it's similar to body integrity identity disorder, and body dysmorphic disorder. Yet people with BDD can go out and get plastic surgery, as a transgender person I can take hormones and get surgery, but as someone who has BIID as well as being trans, amputating my finger is somehow crossing the line.

I knew he was planning on cutting it off as soon as he asked for the nerve blocker. He wanted to be able to cut off his arm without feeling the pain. Then on top of that he wanted the Psychiatrist to cover him and his arm with the blanket so that no one would see. A lot of foreshadowing gave away the ending.

Dysphoria is horrible, I had it when I was younger but strangely enough though I found that doing something to it to make it mine helped, for me it was a piercings but a tattoo would probably also help. It would've been nice to see him recover without managing to lose his arm since he still probably has that warped thinking but I guess not every ep can end completely happily

I've tried giving myself a tattoo on my finger in an attempt to make it my own, but nothing I've tried has worked. So when I see my nurse practitioner in a week I'm going to finally tell her about my BIID and maybe we can talk amputation instead of me hurting myself to force an amputation.

I’ve read a news article shared to Facebook before about a woman who wanted both her legs gone and she did everything to try and make them bad enough to be amputated and the comments on it was “selfish woman, any wheelchair bound person would love to have their legs” and stuff like that but it isn’t the person’s fault they feel they don’t own a certain limb, it’s how their brain isn’t connected properly.
